Weak Plot Execution, but Strong Chemistry Delivery

The Secret of Us (2024) tells the story of Dr. Fahlada (Lingling Sirilak Kwong) and actress "Earn" Sanithada (Orm Kornnaphat Sethratanapong), who used to be a couple back in their college days. Unfortunately, bad-intentioned people got in their way, forcing Earn to break up with Fahlada (from now on referred to as Lada). Years later, fate brings them back together, but this time, Earn will have to work extra hard to win Lada back.

The premise is our classic friends-to-lovers-to-exes-to-lovers-again story — except it’s sapphic, which I love and will probably never get tired of. The clichés I criticize in straight romances? You’ll never catch me criticizing them (too harshly) in LGBTQ+ stories. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t have things to say.

Like, it was fun to watch Earn try to win Lada back in the most annoying ways possible — this girl was not willing to give up. But as much as I enjoyed her non-stop efforts, the lack of communication between them was incredibly frustrating. Earn was willing to do anything to get Lada back… except explain why she broke up with her in the first place. And I get it — that couldn’t happen that fast, or there’d be no story to tell.

Which brings me to another element they used to make the plot work across eight episodes: a love triangle and a lot of jealousy games. Again, they would do anything except have a conversation. I don’t hate love triangles, especially if they’re sapphic, but I don’t love them either. And jealousy? That’s even worse for me.

Then, during episode six, we reach the moment most viewers were waiting for: Lada finally finding out why Earn broke up with her and who was behind it. And what does she do? She forgives that person way too easily. That was insane to me. Not only that, but the character responsible for the breakup suddenly has a change of heart, which felt unrealistic. If the drama had been longer, maybe we could have seen proper character development. The same goes for Earn’s attempts to win Lada back — this story would have benefited if it had more episodes, but it is what it is.

On a positive note, despite not enjoying most of the events leading up to the ending, they still got their happy ending — and honestly, what a beautiful one. It almost made me forget how they were willing to give up on their relationship if the person who broke them apart wasn’t willing to accept their love.

And that’s what truly shines in this drama — the love and the chemistry between them. They were adorable to watch, and it was easy to root for them because of how precious their love was, not only in their early stages but even after they broke up. The way Lada cried over Earn breaking up with her really hit me in the feels. But that’s all thanks to the actresses. They were amazing. The way they looked at each other, with so much love and longing? Their moments of intimacy? It was all so beautifully portrayed. The way they cried when they fought or were facing something that was about to ruin their relationship? It was painful, yet still beautiful. Orm and Lingling knew exactly what they were doing.

I don’t have much to say about the supporting cast — maybe because I’m still not that familiar with Thai dramas. But I do want to highlight Apasiri Nitibhon’s performance as Lada’s cruel mother. She did an incredible job portraying her role.

Anada Prakobkit (Engfah) was great in her role as well, and I see her character as more than just a tool for the love triangle. On the other hand, Ratee (Sureeyares Yakares) was mostly an annoying character — but I have to give props to the actress. While her performance wasn’t extraordinary, she did a good job portraying the role. I should probably talk more about other characters and actors, but as I mentioned, I’m still getting used to the acting style and humor in Thai dramas. That said, there’s no denying that the lead actresses stood out in the best way possible and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more of Orm and Lingling in the future.

For me, the direction was really good, and the production was just as impressive. The soundtrack was cute and matched the vibe of the series. My favorite is definitely the opening, which has a softer and more emotional feel. I feel things in my heart every time I hear it.

Overall, I think The Secret of Us is a good series. While some plot devices didn’t fully align with my personal taste, I still believe they might work well for others. The only thing that really didn’t sit right with me was the antagonist’s redemption arc — I would give anything for it to not be there. However, the chemistry between the lead actresses is surreal. I loved every minute of them together, which gives the series some rewatch value for me. And without a doubt, I’ll always be grateful that it introduced me to the stunning duo that LingOrm are.

Love the actress but not the series

The drama happened due to misunderstanding and character (earn) not hurry to clear things up which make so frustrating that I can’t keep watching. Really love the actress’s performance but they keep making stupid decisions and making each jealous for no reason, in short they just don’t know how to communicate. The cinematography was good and so many different scenes/outfit compare to blank (production was good) but characters facial expressions was not good enough (earn, just my opinion ) i can’t feel the character's emotion. However, i willing to try and continue watching the next episode hope i can change my mind later.

The Secret Of Us is a high quality series varying in many different attributes for viewers to enjoy

The Secret Of Us has become my favorite gl and show in general that I've watched. Ling, Orm, the rest of the cast, production, and directing team do such a good job protraying and delivering each scene. I especially love the story of Fahlada and Earn, I can't wait to see how the rest of their story unfolds! I personally love the strangers to lovers and enemies to lovers trope and it's even better that this series gives me the best of both worlds. The mix of fluff and angst is perfect. I'm a sucker for osts and I can say the ost for The Secret Of Us is one of my favorites, Lingling's voice is so beautiful and she perfectly conveys the emotion fitting to the series. As the ost plays, it isn't sudden neither is it unfitting, it flows in perfectly within the scenes. And as much as I'd hate to see The Secret Of Us end, I can't wait to rewatch all of the episodes over and over again, from beginning to end. As I said before, The Secret Of Us has become one of my favorite shows I've watched and I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone, this series is something that should be shared and watched all over the world!

This is a woman’s GL through and through

I’ve been watching GL’s since forever and from almost every country that’s ever made them and I can honestly say that-The Secret Of Us, is the finest quality GL that I have ever seen and that has ever been produced thus far. Everything about it screams top tier with this series from the cast whose talent and beauty are visually unmatched to the director and etc. everything is on point.

Facts- TSOU and Blank is the best GL’s I’ve seen to date with harder more adult plots and situations to deal with and to execute properly. But TSOU differs from a lot of GL’s and specifically fully grown adult -Thai GL’s. It was the Thai traditional take on romance and it was designed and fashioned specifically for its core audience standards first while showcasing to the west, what Thai romance is really like, only this time, they did it with a GL.

It didn’t go in heavy or above and beyond with the love scenes because it didn’t need it, to keep the audience invested as the talent and the beauty as well, was more than enough to keep the viewers watching. Certain people are concentrating on the lack of love scenes and nagging on the plot and hey it’s their issue and I get it because I know that they either couldn’t feel it, or they just couldn’t get it. But what they are failing to realize is that this show did something for Thai GL that had yet to be done. It brought softness, gentleness and tenderness into the realm of Thai GL which was sorely needed after all the previous stories just jammed with lots of strife and hit and run toxicity first before we got to the romance. And No one, could really push or guilt trip either of the MC’s around in this story either as once they knew who and what it is they wanted, they always chose each other first or to put the other’s needs first.

And this could only be done for this story, because unlike the previous Thai GL’s we’ve all seen, this story was actually written by a woman and not a man. Which is why it was directed by a woman, script adapted to screen by women, produced by a woman, as its story was about women and so it’s main characters were all going to be played by women. It is a true woman’s take on WLW love and I respected it and appreciated that more than anything else. LingOrm served in this show and took us through the stages of love found, love lost, separation and grief, anger and angst, lost love found again and now kept for a lifetime. All while it managed to make GL’s soft, feminine, sweet, tender and beautiful again. This is a woman’s GL through and through and it’s really a full and complete GL and I LOVE IT!

GL without a tragedy will be boring right???..

I loved the tagline of actress and doctor duo.. cute pie earn(orm) and fire daddy p'mor(ling) done justice to their character. Their intense chemistry and crying were so natural... From 1 to 8 ep you never get bored anywhere... The story line is not new about evil grandma or mother it's usual. Other than supporting characters did their job well too. ep 8 have a wholesome delight. Happy to see Thai gls are getting so much attention. Secret of us make you fall in love with lingling😮‍💨❤️

A very great series! I fell in love...

This series, TSOU, is the 1st LingOrm series I've watched

They are so pretty! I'm mesmerized by their beauty honestly

This series made me cry a lot! Since the very 1st episode lol
But I really love this series
I could emphatize with the characters and be immersed in the story
The cuteness and giddiness I felt from Lada & Earn relationship, the anger, sadness, disappointment, and satisfaction throughout the up and down of their love story is very fulfiling to me

I actually "fell in love" with Earn Sanithada lol, she is my ideal wife!!

This series will always be one of the greatest one for me, great job everyone!!

My first THAI GL

This was my first thai gl and it's so dear to me. Even if the dynamic it's pretty unhealthy at first, I still find this story heartwarming, so much I rewatched it. I love the chemestry between lingorm. They are lovely. I found the father being supportive so amazing and the mother actress it's so amazing it made me mad as hell. Earn it's so cute, kind of insane for hurting herself but I was so sad for her situation where she had to choose her mother and the girl of her life. Dr Fahlada made me have a thing for doctors fr god lord.

My favorite GL of 2024

Okay so I started watching this series because I became obsessed with Thai GL dramas and wanted to watch all of them, despite not knowing anything about the story or the actresses. I stumbled on this drama just a few days before it released as I have seen a bunch of Tik Tok edits and thought why not watch this one too as I have preveiously stated that I am a fan of GLs.

Things I liked:
I really like the main actresses and found that they have amazing chemistry, also their acting is very impressive and both Ling and Orm are very talanted and I think both of them did justice in portraying their characters. I also liked the story and how the first episode they gave us a backstory so that I could connect with the characters and the conflict is already established in the first episode mainly because of the mother and miscommunication between the main characters which also intrigued me. I know some people would not like storylines on miscommunication an such but I actually enjoyed all the episodes despite others seeing it as repetitive as I am usually drawn to dramas where there is a little toxicity (not abuse or extreme) and where it takes a long time for the main characters to be together so I very much liked it.

Things I didn't like
Although I love this drama, it doesn't come without it's flaws. First of all, it really annoyed me how Fahlada's mom (who is evil btw) got a redemption arc by the end of the series. I mean, am I supposed to believe that someone who is homophobic from the start almost dies and then becomes a whole other person who accepts their relationship. I swear this happens in every GL drama, GAP, Pluto, Blank, and now TSOU. Please just let them be evil, no need to make them good.

Anyway, all in all this drama is my favorite of 2024 and some episodes I even rewatched 3 times so couldn't recommend it more.

perfect 10.

I don’t care what others opinion is about this series but I am going to give this a perfect 10 score. this series has got me hooked on #lingorm and never have i rewatch a series within a month after I first watch it, this shows how much I love it.

the romance, the heart wrenching moment, the tears, the emotional roller coaster ride makes me feel that I am with Fahlada and Earn in the show. I also appreciate the writers adding in scenes where they went for their honeymoon, to Earn’s dream house and not just stopped at the wedding, which I realise most of the Thai GLs series usually cuts the scene to the end. an excellent ending to this series I would say.

if you are thinking of which Thai GL series to start, watch this. I am confident you will love #lingorm after that😄
