A Weaker Comeback That Still Delivers Thrills

Season 3 of Alice in Borderland returns with new deadly games, the mysterious Joker card, and higher stakes—but it doesn't quite recapture the magic of the first two seasons.

The visual style, game setups, and action sequences remain top-notch and genuinely thrilling. Arisu remains the likable character he is.

But, Usagi's motive to leave Arisu was so out of context that it makes it frustrating, yes we know that for her her father's disappearance/suicide? was always something she never fully recovered from. But I blame the direction, as it fails to encapsulate, being manipulated by a total stranger.
The ending feels flat as the answers feel still not answered, especially the joker arc. If they wanted to end in this vague sense it would have been better to end with season 2 which was a great ending.
It would have been better if they included one more episode diving deeper into the Watchman, the true nature of Borderland's existence, and the world of the dead—mysteries that were teased but never fully explored.

Borderland Almost Became Boredom-land

It can’t be denied that this season had it’s entertainment value but overall it didn’t add much to the overall series. The professor who was obsessed with the afterlife was a nice twist. However, having Usagi reverted to being more drawn to being with her dead father, a desire it seemed she resolved in S2, than embracing her new life with Arisu was disappointing. If the writers needed to get Arisu and Usagi back to the borderland there were some more interesting ways to do it than what was done.

The games in this were not nearly as interesting and intense as the games in previous seasons. In fact, most of the games didn’t seem to have high stakes at all. It was nice to see everything worked out in the end, and to know that some of the characters who survive the borderlands in previous seasons were alive and well and had made positive changes in their lives. With the lackluster stories that was this season, hopefully this is the last trip we'll be making to the Borderlands.

Pointless season

I have so many things to complain about that it's hard for me to talk about the positives, which weren't that many to be honest, except some interesting games.

First of all, they should have stopped at the 2nd season. I really don't understand why they had to continue the story, everything was solved, we had a good ending! It made no sense for them to go back to the games. Again. And the ending annoyed me too... Really?

I don't have complaints about the acting/cast but I have so much to say about the characters! Usagi who I really liked in the first two seasons irritated me so much in this season! Ryuji too... I didn't like we had just cameos from certain characters that were really important in the 2nd season.

I hope someone will talk some sense into the screenwriters and not continue this. We are way past what could be done plot wise.

They dropped the ball with this season

I'll start by saying that I loved seasons 1 & 2. Alice in Borderland is one of my favourite shows of all time. So my expectations were season 1 & 2 level, which it didn't meet.

Positives first: amazing production quality, the games were creative and acting was great. So if you're purely into action with suspense, you'll definitely enjoy it. The premise of an extra Joker round where only people participate who played before is also really interesting and promising. So, I definitely think its own season is warranted.

Now to my criticism. The writing was not good. Usagi's reason for going back to Borderland is what exactly? To meet her father? Whom she knows isn't in Borderland? Makes absolutely zero sense. Her dynamic with Ryuji also makes no sense. Why are they so close? Why is he kind of obsessed or into her? There's no reason at all. But okay - Arisu decided to follow her to save her.
But it's fine, I mostly enjoyed the games about the show anyways. So I was disappointed when they let me down. They were creative - yes. And I liked that there was usually some "loophole" to save yourself. Very nice characteristic of a Joker game. What endlessly frustrated me was that there was always at least one person who ruins the plan ... just cause? Wouldn't they want to survive? And don't even let me get started with the zombie game. From the beginning of the game, I was thinking 'just make everyone a zombie, then nobody has to die', but smartiepants Arisu (who holds a zombie card the whole time) doesn't come up with this idea? I thought he wanted to save everyone? Hello? Where's the logic? I won't even go into the pure frustration that was the future game. In season 1&2, even when I didn't agree with a character's choice, I still thought 'fair enough'. But this time, the stupidity was frustrating. And these are all returning players? Please.

The ending just confused the hell out of me, so I won't even say anything about that. Overall, it was nice for the production and action, but definitely not on par with the past seasons. The idea of the Joker card is great, but not executed well.

As usual, the most exciting part of Alice in Borderland is the games they play, with the high risk of death making it more thrilling and brutal. The mix of logic and sometimes just straight luck is always fun to watch. How they managed to solve that maths equation so quickly is beyond me LOL

The returning characters, along with the new characters, provide a fun experience and interesting dynamics. However, I did find it much harder to get used to 80% of the characters being new. It was much harder to connect with them. And unfortunately, for most of the returning characters, their appearance was minimal (aside from Alice and Usagi). In fact, I kept forgetting about some of the returning characters until they randomly popped up on my screen again after episodes away.

As someone who has been a fan of Alice in Borderland since just after its live action release, my feelings about the show are intense, and part of my opinion is wrapped up in nostalgia for the very first time I watched season 1 as a teenager. So I did my best to lower my expectations coming into this, and I'm glad I did as I feel like I was able to enjoy it a lot more. However, the further in we got, the more confused I got, and the need to make this season became less justifiable. So whilst I enjoyed most of it, I was slightly disappointed by the end of it and wonder why another favourite series of mine had to be tainted by the need to expand it for monetary gain. The more I think about this season, the more I dislike it, to be honest...

The most redeeming part was the bit of fan service we got right at the end.

I wish to speak with someone who felt same as me. / free from chaos

s3 was no were close to S1&S2 but bcoz of two seasons I felt good about borderland world. I felt great relief while watching from S1 episode1. deep inside I always wished I too should be somewhere else and fade away with not much thought or link to the the world I live, which is starting to make me feel that I've lost any interest and point in doing anything. there and few more series which I really felt so relatable and made me felt freedom from something and made me feel something which I could'nt express in words (series: Misaeng Incomplete Life, when the weather is fine) while completing the series it put me in a limbo like feeling. i wish their is someone whom I can talk or rather understand while sharing thoughts of series of movies which we watch. rather than having direct conversation how we really feel talking thru the feeling of the series we watched can Heal me or thats wat I think.

Ten out of fucking ten lmao

I don't care if I sacrificed my sleep schedule for this series, but it was so worth it. I was a little scared to start the 3rd season because of the backlash from the fans, and after watching it, THEY ARE SO DRAMATIC. If you don't get any basic points of the characters, or their relationship, you're just dumb. But some things weren't understandable for sure ,for example why did Usagi return to the games for his father??? Maybe i'll have to do some research about that. Yeah but so arisu and usagi's relationship is so heartwarming. When arisu decided to sacrifice himself to get usagi out of the last game, I remembered their first meeting, cute moments, that and I just got so emotional lolololol. The last scene where arisu takes interviews from OUR LOVESSS, I cried. I love this series smmmm. So yeah 10 out of 10

Mas del mundo Borderland!! Spoilers incluidos~

Si bien en las temporadas anteriores nos explican en que consiste este limbo entre la vida y la muerte, ahora nos cuentan que es posible entrar a voluntad, jugar, ganar y salir o elegir quedarse, es una perspectiva bastante fuerte de mostrar que refleja que un % de la sociedad no tenia sentido de vivir y buscaba mor*ir experimentando este "viaje".

Los nuevos personajes resultaron interesantes. Por ejemplo, Bada, el exjugador y ahora habitante de Borderland, quien vio en Arisu a un sobreviviente con quien podía formar una especie de “partner in crime”. El Joker, por su parte, aportó ese aire macabro y oscuro característico de las temporadas anteriores, y fue llamativo que al final se mostrara de manera corpórea. En cambio, el investigador universitario me dejó una sensación extraña: no quedó del todo claro si estaba enamorado de la muerte, si deseaba arrastrar a alguien con él, o si veía en Usagi un reflejo de su antigua estudiante. Al final, terminó siendo solo un titere o peón del Joker en el juego. En mi opinión, este personaje sobraba dentro del arco del CP, porque su función pudo haber sido cubierta por otros personajes o situaciones. Su obsesión con el más allá parecía una trama mas interesante de abarcar que si hubiera estado mejor integrada habría tenido más sentido.

Para los fans del CP como yo, es hermoso ver a Arisu y Usagi seguir juntos, casados y descubrir que estaban esperando un bebé. Lo que me impactó fue la carga que llevaba Usagi con los sueños de su padre su*cidándose; ella necesitaba ayuda, pero no quería que Arisu lo supiera para no lastimarlo. Esa “oportunidad” que le dio el investigador terminó siendo su regreso al juego y arrastró también a Arisu. Lo genial fue ver cómo él (Arisu), al enterarse, no dudó en ir tras ella y su bebé, mostrando cuánto los ama. Me encantó ver ese crecimiento en su personaje, porque sigue jugando con la misma esencia, pero con un amor y determinación mucho más fuertes.

Una parte de la trama que considero innecesaria fue que algunos personajes insinuaran a Arisu que Usagi le era infiel con el investigador, cuando no era cierto y felizmente él nunca lo creyó. Y también me preguntaba ¿Por qué? cuando en ocasiones Usagi defendía ciegamente al profesor frente a Arisu sin saber que éste profesor ya estaba maquinando matarla.

Me gustó cuando ambos se encuentran en el tren y se dan cuenta que sí están en el juego, la parte donde ella ve (como parte de un juego psicológico) cómo matan a Alice y lo valora mucho más por sobre su miedo; también cuando Usagi se entera que estaba embarazada, no fue una sorpresa, se vio muy natural su asimilación.

En los juegos, Arisu y Usagi no decepcionaron, hicieron jugadas excelentes, es genial verlos en acción y vivir la adrenalina de cada juego; hay muchas caras conocidas del mundo del Jdrama / dorama como Tamashiro Tina, Daigo Kotaro o Kaku Kento jugando en silla de ruedas, y más. Lo hicieron genial en sus papeles. Los juegos son creativos, mezclado la cultura, tecnología, ves mucho de Japón reflejado en los escenarios; además estaban llenos de tensión, buscando siempre que sus jugadores decidan si salva uno o se salvan en colectivo, entre la muerte y la vida. El juego de cartas nuevamente me recordó a los juegos de Liar Game ♡ , sino la han visto se las recomiendo.

No me gustó que el final dejara abierta la posibilidad de una versión americana. Es algo muy propio de Netflix, pero suele no funcionar; al final, solo los japoneses saben crear estas historias tan increíbles sin perder su esencia. Hubiera optado que la historia finalice hasta las entrevistas con los personajes anteriores. Aunque sus apariciones fueron breves, fue el toque de nostalgia y nos invitaron a reflexionar sobre la vida: ¿en qué momento comprendemos su verdadero sentido?, ¿por qué estamos vivos? si bien sus vidas antes del juego eran inciertas, caóticas o sin sentido, ahora han cambiado de perspectiva o están en el proceso, dando lo mejor de si.

Alice regresa con fuerza en esta nueva temporada. Aunque las anteriores tuvieron un cierre, esta entrega es un complemento perfecto para la serie. No hace falta haber visto las anteriores para disfrutarla, pero ¿Quién querría perderse estas joyas? Sin dudas, recomendada.

omg I love this j drama so much

qualquer coisa que tivesse nessa temporada eu ia gostar, esperei anos por isso e sou super fã, obvio q a temporada foi mais fraca mesmo até pq não teve um manga p se basear assim como as outras temporadas, fiquei revoltada com aquele cadeirante lá a cada palavra q ele falav3a queria jogar uma pedra na tv. os jogos foram mto mais fracos do que os da 2 temporada ( que no caso é a minha favorita), chorei em todos os eps, por todos, ate os secundarios e novos, so de eu ver o arisu e usagi juntos ja desabei. enfim gostei do mesmo jeito, até pq so por ter parecido a kuina e o chishya já fiquei

avevo paura di questa stagione, dopo 3 episodi gli stavo ancora dando una possibilità nonostante i giochi noiosi e nessun personaggio veramente di spicco

ho finito la serie delusa, totalmente
il contentino finale in cui ci hanno fatto rivedere kuina, aguni, Chishiya ecc non è bastato

giochi noiosi, è mancata l’adrenalina

Podia ter parado na 2, mas n tinham que inventar moda...

Acho que com esse titulo para a resenha ja demonstra a minha insatisfação em temporada. Sinceramente se a proposta era dar uma explicação viável para o que caramba era a carta do Jockey foi feita muito mal. Em nenhum momento teve uma explicação que fosse crível para que os nossos protagonista tivessem voltado par Borderland (tá mais vcs podem colocar que foi por causa que a Usagi não consegui superar a morte do pai, mas se agnt for seguir esta ideia nos podemos jogar as temporadas passadas todas no lixo). Achei os jogos fracos, com pouco envolvimento com os demais personagens que apareceram no jogo (o que nas temporadas passadas foi executado de forma fenomenal), uma premissa de escolhas muito rasas.
Agora sinceramente passaram um pano bem grande para o Ryuji, a raiva que a produção me deixou com esse personagem não ta escrita. Existe mais alguns motivos para eu ter odiado essa temporada, mas não vou comentar aki pq vai ser spoiler para você caro leitor.
Resumindo acho que caso vc ainda não tenha assistido a 3 temporada desse drama, recomendo que nem veja pra não se estressar, mas caso vc n acredite em mim assista por sua conta e risco.
