Black tank tops and you are gone girl! Speed and Love is intoxicating!

C-Drama fandom has rightfully been reeled into the pair like a lovelock, owing to the intoxicating performance of He Yu as Jin Zhao. He has got the charm, the intensity, the looks, the fierce racing drive, watching him is like falling into an inescapable trance. THANK YOU #HeYu! My heart is full with yearning & nostalgia.

Overall, I completely enjoyed the pace and the vibe of the series and love the pull it has on our hearts as the audience who want to cheer for Love and adoration LP show towards each other, that implausible first love is not so hopeless after all!!

Story wise we have an average offering, however the execution itself is impressively elevated. Cinematography is magically captivating with its dark, moody color palette and angles. The scenes from the garage with the large rotating fan always get to me, spellbinding work with shadow and light ! Something similar with how the rain scenes play out. This is Director's nod to the Sun & The Moon interplay in the series, bravo! Would have preferred the full series with only this type of light work but they eventually had to give in to the Sun, the light, and the happy ending!

The portion specific to the Racing is wonderfully done as well, at par or even better in many ways from many international productions. Director has given memorable shots of the lead pair with their palpable chemistry sizzling off the screen. However, Esther Yu was lacking immensely in first 10 or so episodes with her flat face or her extra bubbly persona, flip flopping with the range, it did not come off very well. She's been great though episode 20 onwards. I also enjoyed the bromance of the extended male cast, He Yu's friend SanLai, and the unexpected friendship with LinSui (Mike Angelo). The criminal elements of the racing world were done away with just a narration, it would have been meatier to have shown more , even 10 minutes, on how and what happened.

Jin Zhao & Mumu are the kind of love pair we all want to have, the longing, the strong silent bond, the care and respect, it is all there even with the 4+year age gap, the connection is adorable and steamy at the same time !!

He Yu's Performance 10/10
Esther Yu's Performance after episode 20 9,5/10
Drama Rewatch value 10/10
Cinematography & Action 10/10

**watching it for the 4th time and updating the rating to 10 because it is truly well deserved.

Coming back here in March to emphasize on the fact that Speed and Love has the most beautiful OST and BGM ever done for any drama. Music director and composer and everyone involved deserve an award for infusing this story with so many heartfelt feelings. Keep listening, keep loving good music 🖤🩷🩶

An interesting story with a spoiled ending

The beginning of the story was interesting and even exciting, then even after her return from abroad, the story was still good. But it wasn't explained why her mother hated him so much. In addition, their wedding was supposed to be like what? The ending spoiled the whole story.
Because of the ending, I wouldn't watch this series a second time. It was too fast for how the story flows relatively at the beginning.
And I managed to do that with Ester, with whom I often don't give her voice. ☺️

BIG SPOILERS!! EPISODE BY EPISODE THOUGHTS!

Dare I say one of the best modern dramas of all time? The tension, mutual understanding, and protective behavior between Jin Zhao and Jiang Mu are unmatched. Jin Zhao’s caring and playful side only emerges around Jiang Mu—his smiles, crinkling eyes, and quiet devotion rarely show for anyone else. They are opposites who fit perfectly. He knows what she needs before she even says a word.

He Yu and Yu Shuxin embodied these roles flawlessly. Their chemistry is undeniable, on-screen and off. Interviews and variety shows show their banter and shared energy. When I imagine Jin Zhao, I see He Yu; when I imagine Jiang Mu, I see Yu Shuxin. PLEASE 2ND COLLABORATION!

Jiang Mu is strong, independent, loyal, and loving. She never gives up, ultimately ensuring their happily ever after. A TikTok perfectly sums up Jin Zhao: “Having a boyfriend like Jin Zhao is not for the weak. He’s literally the standard. Husband material. He knows how to cook, has emotional intelligence, can protect you, spoil you, drive, manage time, box, race, fix things, is loyal, brave, strong, handsome, smart, and only yearns for you.” Perfectly said.

Episode 1:
The underground boxing club opening scene was 🔥🔥🔥. Jin Zhao and Jiang Mu’s tension is immediate, almost palpable through their glances. Even without dialogue, the way they watch each other, the subtle micro-expressions, sets up the connection instantly. That silent understanding is intoxicating—every glance seems to say, “I see you. I get you.”

Episode 3:
THE TENSION! Jin Zhao’s explanation of his struggles is raw and emotional. He Yu’s portrayal shows layers of strength and vulnerability. You feel his weight, and his protective instinct toward Jiang Mu starts to shine. You already know this is the beginning of something intense.

Episode 4:
“I only know the day that you came into this world.” Oversized shirt, hand on her stomach during cramps—he’s attentive and protective even when they’re only “siblings.” The tension of that touch, the way they avoid full acknowledgment, is electric.

Episode 5:
“You tried to smash my car and mess with my people.” His protective nature is so attractive. The garage scene after the ruckus—the way they look at each other—is intoxicating. He Yu driving without a stunt double, exuding confidence, perfectly captures Jin Zhao’s aura. His care isn’t just emotional—it’s kinetic, active, commanding attention.

Episode 6:
“My home is your home. With me there, no one can bully you.” The casual hand holding, reassurance, and ignoring Wan Jing’s advances show his unwavering focus on Jiang Mu. The peeling of the pig trotter for her is subtle, intimate caretaking that says “I see you, I know you.” Jin Zhao’s loyalty shines.

Episode 8:
Mumu searching his pockets—innocent, shameless, adorable. Jin Zhao melts whenever she calls him “Gege.” Allowing her to keep a dog at his place shows a gentle, protective side. Every small action proves how much he prioritizes her happiness.

Episode 9:
Apple-sharing scene—eye contact locked, shameless flirting. When he corners her and asks if she wants something to happen, it’s practically a confession. Dream sequences heighten tension. Yu Shuxin and He Yu sell the intensity perfectly, balancing innocence with emerging desire.

Episode 10:
Fully in love. Drawing Jiang Mu, thinking of her constantly. Hand-holding in the rain, matching smirks, subtle touches—they’re unignorable. You feel their heartbeat in every frame.

Episode 11:
Blowdrying her hair, listening to her sing 月亮代表我的心, laying heads together—trust and comfort are tangible. Jin Zhao’s gaze is completely hers. The poster-perfect scene solidifies their intimacy.

Episode 12:
Jin Zhao’s self-control with drunk Mumu. San Lai as matchmaker. Jin Zhao admits internally, “She doesn’t need to get in. She’s always been there.” The keychain with 朝思暮想, yearning day and night, is a perfect symbolic connection across distance and time.

Episode 13:
Jiang Mu as navigator shows complete trust. Drifting hearts gift demonstrates thoughtfulness. Accidental cheek kiss—pure joy. Jin Zhao’s lovestruck puppy expression adds humor and depth.

Episode 14:
Lean down, head pat, promises to care for her even after racing. Mumu initiates first kiss, signaling her agency in their relationship. Every gesture is meaningful.

Episode 15:
Rooftop kiss—he loses control. Second kiss stronger, hands intertwined, passion unrestrained. Hand-holding behind her back calms her. Stairwell hug—comforting and necessary. Red bean necklace and Up house fulfill childhood promises. Whipped cream moment—playful, tender, intimate.

Episode 16:
Blessed with kisses. Shirtless scene, pulling her in. Boat outfit perfect. Secret relationship scenes—covering dog’s eyes, jumping into ocean, hiding passion. Car scenes, rooftop kisses, and emotional hits—Yu Shuxin’s acting conveys heartbreak, longing, and restrained love.

Episode 17:
Car destroyed, yet Jin Zhao shields Mumu from stress. Calm, grounding voice. Gentle with her, strict with others. Protective instinct palpable, almost overwhelming.

Episode 18:
Smiles only for Mumu. Head-holding hug, dreams of café and dog. Pan Kai interruption—humorous. Fireworks kiss. LEGO reference. Lightning the dog—“their baby.” Deep emotional gaze while she sings—cinematic perfection.

Episode 19:
Aggressive kisses tempered by restraint. Shared bed revelation. Pre-race admiration. Accident panic—Yu Shuxin’s eyes convey fear, tension, relief. Careful gestures show devotion.

Episode 20:
Pre-surgery tears—reliving every moment. Separation hurts deeply, only cries around her. Rehab determination shows persistence. Emotional pull intensifies as Jin Zhao balances survival and love.

Episode 21:
Jiang Mu’s loyalty unparalleled. Coffee symbolism shows years of restraint. Both back in Nanjing, yearning peaks. Small glances and gestures pack emotional weight.

Episode 22:
Missed reunion—painful. Lightning’s return—heartwarming. Café perfectly matches her dreams: Moon drink, LEGO rocket. Reunion heartbreaking: defensive, mutual hurt, tears across café. Visuals cinematic, emotionally layered.

Episode 23:
Jiang Mu’s fake marriage plot—clever, humorous. Jin Zhao relief, protective instinct, subtle jealousy. Texts, listening to 月亮代表我的心, small interactions—intense love showcased without dialogue.

Episode 24:
Revelation scene. Jin Zhao restrained, IV drip accelerated. Classic lean-down, unspoken longing, raw emotion. Desire, care, and restraint merge into perfect tension.

Episode 25:
Kitchen scene: apron tied, playful smirk, tender teasing—they’re practically dating again. Jin Zhao pretends to act cold while peeling crabs, carefully feeding her when she drinks too much, watching over her with a mix of patience and intensity. Every glance and small gesture says “I see you, I’ve always been watching out for you.” Elevator kiss scene—heart-stopping, breathless, teetering between restraint and release. His whisper of 乖 (guai guai) while holding her close melts the tension. Sun and moon symbolism shows their eternal bond: he’s her constant, her protector, her equal. Their banter, touches, and secret smiles weave humor, intimacy, and raw emotion seamlessly. The chemistry is electric, but the love is deeply grounded.

Episode 26:
Officially back together. Head-holding hug returns, back hug intensifies the emotional intimacy. Jin Zhao’s jaw clenches, body tense with desire, yet controlled—he wants her completely but respects her space. Every move, glance, and whisper is deliberate, a testament to their trust. “I’m not a small child anymore.” Jiang Mu asserts herself, and he responds with reassurance, admiration, and playful dominance. Black dress scene—Jin Zhao shameless, captivated, gently teasing, showing that he’s entirely hers. Photo albums, shared collectibles, and past mementos evoke nostalgia and reaffirm how their love grew through shared history. Subtle touches—hand on back, guiding gaze, tiny smiles—reiterate that every moment is layered with affection, memory, and promise.

Episode 27:
Couch scene: the intimacy is electric. Soft teasing, playful interruptions, whispered confessions, lingering touches, and subtle glances heighten the romantic tension. Jin Zhao’s protective instincts are visible in small acts: adjusting her hair, brushing off crumbs, ensuring she’s comfortable. The way he engages with friends like San Lai and Crazy shows growth, maturity, and loyalty—they’re a chosen family, protective yet relaxed. BTS reveals He Yu and Yu Shuxin’s chemistry isn’t just scripted; it’s palpable and effortless. Jin Zhao visiting Mumu at the airport with the keychain she treasures shows that every small gesture carries years of meaning and dedication.

Episode 28:
Mike third-wheel humor adds levity, but Jin Zhao’s focus never wavers. He sacrifices racing, confronts his fears and PTSD, all for her safety and happiness. His words, “Two hearts defying wind and rain together, resisting a broken life,” are poetic yet perfectly encapsulate their journey. Head-holding hug: protective, intimate, grounding. Emotional honesty with Jiang Mu’s mother shows bravery, respect, and true commitment. Every glance, gentle push, and teasing smile signals a love that is strong, unshakable, and matured by trials. The stakes are high, yet their connection remains unbreakable, emphasizing devotion over drama.

Episode 29:
Reconciliation with her mother is emotionally profound—first parental hug for Jin Zhao, symbolizing acceptance and validation. Quiet proposal, ring on keychain, intimate and symbolic—no grandeur needed because their relationship is built on depth, history, and understanding. Elopement feels perfect: carefree yet emotionally complete, mirroring their personalities and journey. Jin Zhao’s devotion is evident in his patience, bravery, and willingness to create a life with Jiang Mu against all odds. Shared dreams, mutual respect, whispered promises, and lingering touches make this payoff both satisfying and cathartic. The ending emphasizes love as a daily choice, a partnership grounded in trust, protection, playfulness, and enduring passion. Their journey is now complete—emotionally, physically, and symbolically.

The chemistry and the emotions had me omg and the green flag characters

First of all, i don't write reviews often. I only write those for dramas that I geniunely love or dramas that i just don't like. So for me to write a review on this drama is a big deal even for me. ALL of my favorites that i have rewatched so many times i haven't even written a review for them but this drama was insane. Jin Zhao---he is the kind of guy every girl dreams of---he knows how to treat his woman right, become the kind of man she needs and even letting her go to prevent her from suffering. That man omg i can't even tell you, he was so gentle and kind and loving and caring just for her. I can't explain the amount of times i wanted to climb into my screen and hug that guy. I love everything about him. Jiang Mu----she is also such a green flag. After their breakup she waited 6 years for him---i mean c'mon she loves him way too much just the way he does. Both of them were the kind of couple that have understanding between them. I loved every second of this drama. Its like both of them fell at the same time and harder for each other the same way. I don't know how to move on from this masterpiece. I am definitely rewatching this as soon as possible.

Truly a MASTERPIECE✨ and the BEST way to finish the year

I don't even know where to start.
I started this just to pass some time, but man, was I in for a RIDE.

Let me just start off with my new reason for living, simultaneously the bane of my existence-- HE YU. He is not just fine. I've seen some of his other works before, but in this one, he is just utterly... STUNNING. Magnetic. Irresistibly captivating😮‍💨. The producers and cameramen deserve a raise because the way the camera caught all his best angles and slow motion/close-ups? A cinematic masterpiece 👏🏻 Even qualities I highly dislike in men, he can somehow make appealing-- a mullet, the scar under his eye, his slight cleft chin, even his freaking SWEAT. Like, no way was I ovulating the whole time the drama aired LOL but he was just otherworldly attractive. 🥵🤤 And seeing all the behind the scenes of him actually driving his car? Unbelievable.

Okay, I digress.

The storyline itself sounded interesting enough to get me to start, though I'm not a fan of the Culpa Mia parallel where step siblings get together. In this one, they aren't even legally step siblings though, so that clarification really helped clear the air on their potential future relationship. I quite liked the drama starting off with them reuniting after a long break, with flashbacks aded here and there. I think if it started off with them as kids, it would NOT have had the same impact at all. It's the vagueness of how close they were as children, and whether or not they kept in touch til they became adults, that adds to the tension and curiosity as the episodes progress.

Side characters are always so crucial to a good storytelling, because you learn to form different opinions of different characters who help build the plot in their own ways, good or bad. Speed and Love had such an amazing set of side characters. Mike Angelo was such a nice addition to the cast, not just because of the nostalgic vibes he gives from his previous drama with Esther as the two leads, but he gives an almost mysterious vibe where you're unsure whether or not he'd be the villain. Watch to find out hehe. Otherwise, the friend group and even some others like Wan Qing may not have had a lot of screen time, but they gave such strong impact that you can't help but wish the drama were longer just so they could appear more.

Another small factor that I found really interesting and not something I see in many Chinese dramas, is how they filmed a LOT of episodes overseas. This one was in Thailand, and I just thought it brought such an interesting setting and ambience that filming in a set can't bring. The authenticity was nice, though they did noticeably dub a lot of the Thai dialogue. I have yet to watch their variety show spinoff Thai is Sweet, but that's because I feel like finishing that will really mean I'm saying goodbye, which I don't think I'm ready to do yet🥲

And finally, our leads and their chemistry🧪hahah
Esther Yu is such an adorable actress, with her bubbly🥰 character really giving a strong impression in all the dramas she stars in. Because of how strong her character is, she is both positively and negatively criticized in all her works, but I quite liked her in this one. She does have the naive girl persona, but it fits her character as the younger sister, and there is a considerable change after the time skip in her maturity. If I had to choose one thing that did bother me, it would maybe be how she pouts😗 a lot when kissing her male partners, so it may seem like she's not immersing herself into a romantic scene. But regardless, her crying scenes were quite emotional and I think her performance was great. Back to our male lead😅 He Yu, like I said, was truly the scene stealer. Sorry to everyone else, but his character was the PERFECT "bad boy is not really bad and actually cares for those he loves" with the almost-rugged look as a car mechanic, and then the complete flip when he races oh my goodness. Even later on in the drama when they're a bit older, his style completely changes, and he's still SO ATTRACTIVE in a cleaner smart-boy look... though preference-wise I surprisingly found the former more charismatic and appealing. BOTH WORK THOUGH hahaha 👏🏻bravo. UGH this character will be SO SO HARD to beat in the future.
Their chemistry grows at the most PERFECT pace. They obviously aren't that close in the beginning, but as they spend more time together you can literally see how important one sees the other, and the small acts of affection even before they get together are sweeter than honey🍯 And when they do get together? Just more perfectness.

The soundtrack was also perfect. A different song for a different vibe, and matching the tension. Especially paired with the camera zooming in on details like clenched hands, or capturing angles in such mesmerizing ways.

THIS DRAMA JUST GAVE ME THE FEELS IN EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. Trust me and give this a go. I'll probably rewatch this 30 times before I die. Can't believe it's already over😭

A Perfect C-Drama to End the Year

This C-drama truly stands out as one of the best ways to end the year, offering a captivating blend of strong storytelling, emotional depth, and remarkable performances from its cast. From the very first episode, it manages to pull you into its world with a sense of warmth, sincerity, and charm that only a few dramas genuinely achieve. What makes this series so memorable is not just its plot, but the way each character feels alive, layered, and relatable. The writers have clearly put effort into crafting a story that balances romance, friendship, growth, and conflict without ever feeling overwhelming or forced.

One of the most impressive aspects of this drama is its ability to maintain a consistent pace throughout. The storyline never drags, yet it doesn’t rush important emotional moments. Each episode builds upon the last, slowly deepening the bonds between characters while revealing new layers of their personalities. The character development is beautifully handled—no one feels flat, and every action has purpose. Whether it’s the main couple’s evolving relationship or the supporting characters’ individual journeys, every thread contributes meaningfully to the larger narrative.

The cinematography is super good. I really the dark and colorful vibes of this show!

The plot around racing cars is epic, and the fact that this was filmed in Thailand makes the aesthetic of the show more vibrant, which was really nice to see.

I wished Wang Qin (Sun Mei Lin) had more screen time since she is my favorite character of the show, and Lin Sui (Mike Angelo) as well. I feel like this is Mike Angelo's best show so far because he looks so handsome with his hair and aesthetic in this show, and his chemistry with Jin Zhao is just perfect.

casts are perfect! chemistry is chemistrying !!!

First and foremost, the actors are top notch! I really love how each actors complement their own characters. I especially like Sanlai's actor as he expresses his emotions through his face and it is very readable. I am glad that He Yu is now getting more recognized through this drama. His eyes and lips really show his feelings and emotions. I like it when his eyes starts to smile before his lips.

As the other reviews have said, this drama is up to the viewer's preference. It's whether you like it, or you don't.
I do not have a problem with the siblings trope as it was very clear from the start that they didn't have feelings for each other when they met again. I understand why it's weird for some though.

For the plot, it was unique for me. It is cliche, yes. But, you don't often see dramas like this now. The plot is very predictable, so you've just got to enjoy every scene with the characters, don't always focus on the plot.
I feel like the drama was a bit rushed in the middle. All of that happened in the early episodes, then it was solved quickly? Also, as I have mentioned, the things happening in the drama was a bit rushed, but it still extended to 29 episodes. I think it was because they really focus on showing every details and emotions. There would always be a slow-mo scene every episode. BUT WHO COULD COMPLAIN??? The close-up shots would always be Zhao and his shimmering arms. I'm fascinated every time he's shown on the screen! His face would always be dripping with sweat, and also his armsss. This drama really showcased He Yu's appearance and acting.

Speaking of acting, I know that some people don't really like how Esther Yu acts. Honestly, there are some scenes where you would cringe. But, it doesn't change the fact that Shuxin was picked to play this role. Her baby-voice had always been her signature since before. And, I have been watching her since she appeared on Youth With You, that's why I can proudly say that she has improved. I think she did great in playing Mu Mu' character, that innocent and playful vibe. I feel like she's a bit lacking in kissing scenes though. She kisses cutely, while He Yu' kisses are hot. But, it creates more spark with their chemistry.

Overall, I love the casts, the scenery, and ESPECIALLY THE OST!!! The camera angles and lightings are perfect! Director did such an amazing job. The drama is not for everyone, but it is for me! Not a lot of people like cliche stories, but I'm a sucker for these. I especially love Zhao and Sanlai! Very entertaining to watch.
I still can't move on from this drama. 💔 This is the first cdrama I watched after a long long time. So, I'm grateful that I watched it because it has given me motivation to watch cdramas again. I always do not finish watching dramas, so I can say that this drama is good as I have finished it!

Love lots to the casts, especially Shuxin and Yi Qian! 💓

Chemistry just sparks off the screen with each episode!!

I have to say first that I am one that doesn't really like the babyish voice that Esther Yu usually does in dramas, but it did not bother me at all in this drama. I thought it really worked for the dynamic between her and the ML and even thought it was cute how he would cave to her. I just can't get over their chemistry in this it just feels like it ended way too soon. I needed to see more of them. The fight scenes and street racing were also so well done.

The Story:
What can I say it had me completely hooked. I couldn't get enough of the FL and ML together. Also loved the fight scenes and street racing through this.

Its about the FL and ML growing up as siblings but there is no blood relation between them. Her dad takes him in when he loses his parents whose dad was a good friend of her dad. Her mom and dad end up divorcing and he goes with her dad and they don't see each other for years. When she is old enough she goes to her dad looking for him. Finding out that he is involved with street racing and undergrounds fights.

Watching the ML you can tell he does fight his feelings for her and doesn't give in to them easily not wanting to cross that line of not being a brother figure for her anymore. I completely fell in love with the way He Yu would look at her through this whole drama. He had his stares down. I also want to say I loved the character San Lai and the guy that played him. He made me crack up so much.

Absolutely loved this drama and it will definitely be a top fave for me.

Spoilers will start here:
I have seen reviews talking about noble idiocy toward the end of this, and I mean what was he expected to do. Tell her no don't go to her mom that also needed her at that time, and to stay with him and take care of him. Then he would of just been called selfish. The FL was just a 20 year old girl that had such big dreams and he wanted to see them come true. He didn't want to see her give that all up for him. Did he know she would of course he did that wasn't the point. Even if it broke his own heart he let her go to pursue her dreams and be there for her mom. Granted he had a lot of pride and didn't want her to see him in that state, but there are a lot of people when they are told they probably won't be able to walk again that go through that. They are barely handling it themselves let alone dragging someone else along with them. So even though those scenes were heartbreaking I get why he did it.

Did I Just Fall in Love with C-Dramas?

Speed and Love was my first-ever C-drama, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction.

At first, the Chinese language felt a bit unfamiliar since I’m used to Korean dramas (my only previous exposure to Chinese was through anime). But that feeling disappeared very quickly. These 29 episodes flew by, I completely binge-watched it, and at no point did the drama feel tiring.

The pacing is very well balanced. There’s a lot of romance for romance lovers, plenty of intense and emotional moments, and something I had never seen in a drama before: car racing. I had never come across a K-drama with this theme either, so this was a fresh experience for me. The racing scenes are surprisingly well done and add excitement and tension to the story.

The ML is a solid 10/10: acting, presence, chemistry, everything works perfectly. He completely pulled me into the story from start to finish. Coming from the K-drama and K-pop world, I sometimes associate certain vibes with people I’m already familiar with. Because of that, the ML occasionally reminded me of Yeonjun (TXT) in terms of personality and styling, and visually there were moments that reminded me of Seungmin (Stray Kids). This isn’t a comparison or a judgment, just a personal impression shaped by what I’m used to watching, which helped me connect more easily with his character.

The FL, on the other hand, had moments where her slightly childish behavior annoyed me a bit. That said, it’s clearly part of her character (she’s even described as spoiled by her own mother), so this feels more like a personal taste issue than a flaw in writing or acting.

The couple’s dynamic is one of the strongest points of the drama. They’ve always been very close, even before fully acknowledging that they are not blood-related siblings. Neither of them wanted to break that bond at first, which I found genuinely beautiful. But of course, when chemistry speaks louder, feelings become inevitable, and it feels natural rather than forced.

There were frustrating moments, especially when the ML chose to distance himself “for her happiness,” ending up making both of them miserable instead. Was it a stupid decision? Yes. But it’s also part of the drama genre, and the six years they spent apart carried real emotional weight for both of them. Thankfully, their reunion and mutual understanding at the end made the journey worth it.

Another thing I really appreciated: no forced love triangle. Even though there are potential love interests on both sides, the drama never turns that into unnecessary conflict. This made it much easier to believe in the couple and stay emotionally invested in them until the very end, and I never stopped rooting for them, despite everything that happened.

I genuinely liked all the characters, including the ML’s friends, who were interesting and well-used in the story. Nothing felt dragged out or pointless.

I started this drama thinking it would be an 8/10, halfway through I was already at around 8.5, and by the end I was debating between a 9 and a 10. In the end, I decided to be honest with myself. This drama has everything I personally enjoy: romance, action, intensity, emotional moments, light comedy, and great pacing. The only reason it’s not a perfect 10 for me is the FL’s childish side, which simply isn’t my personal preference, not a problem with her performance.

Final score: 9.5/10

A drama that completely hooked me from start to finish and made my first experience with C-dramas incredibly positive.

When ‘Not by Blood’ Isn’t Enough: A Deeply Uncomfortable Siblings Romance

Drama that has received surprisingly positive reviews, but for me, it was deeply uncomfortable and ultimately unwatchable.

The story centers on a “not-by-blood” siblings-to-lovers romance. The ML was adopted by the Jin family, and the FL was born later. They grew up as siblings until their parents divorced and never saw each other again. Years later, as adults, the FL learns that the ML was adopted and immediately flies to see him.

While the drama technically removes the blood relation, it completely ignores the psychological and emotional reality of the relationship. These two characters grew up as brother and sister, and that context is never meaningfully addressed. No one in the story seems to mind, nor the viewers who rated this positively. There is no internal conflict, no moral hesitation, no boundary-setting—nothing.

What disturbed me most is how the romantic and physical tension starts in episode 1, literally the day the FL lands. There is zero transition. Let's bear in mind that the FL’s entire memory of the ML is of her childhood brother, yet overnight the overly skinship didn't matter. There is no gradual shift, no self-reflection, no struggle with the idea that flirting with the person you grew up calling “brother” might be wrong or, at the very least, confusing.

The show treats this shift as if it’s the most natural thing in the world—brother one day, romantic interest the next. The FL doesn’t hold back at all. There’s no conscience, no hesitation, no acknowledgment of boundaries. It feels less like a developed romance and more like the characters were simply waiting for a technical loophole to justify their attraction.

The most repulsive aspect for me is the constant use of childhood flashbacks showing their innocent sibling bond, immediately followed by scenes of overt flirting and intense skinship in the present. The contrast is jarring and unsettling. By episode 13, when they are openly all over each other, I had to stop watching.

I’ve watched dramas with sibling-like relationships turning into romance before—Go Ahead, for example—but those stories handled the transition with care, emotional growth, and moral awareness. The characters didn’t behave as if they were itching to jump into bed the moment a non-blood-related excuse appeared. Side note: In Go Ahead, the characters were not related by blood, not adopted siblings, and not legal siblings. They were neighbors who grew up extremely close and formed a found-family dynamic, while still having their own parents and separate family identities.

Speed and Love lacks that sensitivity entirely. It romanticizes a relationship that, while legally permissible (?), is emotionally and psychologically twisted, without ever questioning itself. For me, it crossed a line on multiple levels, and no amount of chemistry or production quality could make up for that.

Final verdict:
If you’re comfortable with sibling-coded romance that skips moral reflection and emotional realism, you might enjoy this. If not, this drama will likely feel disturbing rather than romantic.
