He Yu Shines, but the Execution Falters
The Standout: He YuAs a first-time viewer of He Yu, I was pleasantly surprised. He carried the drama with a grounded performance, proving he’s a leading man to watch.
The Lead: Esther Yu
I gave this a chance despite dropping Moonlight years ago after a few episodes, but the "baby" voice and expressions were still cringey and unnecessary. She looks young enough to play 19 without the exaggerated acting, though the director likely shares the blame for that vision. The scenes of her dancing and performing felt totally out of place.
The Story: Missed Potential
The "sibling" dynamic felt forced..they should have just been childhood housemates. After the accident, the story became predictable and lost its edge. It’s also pure idol drama logic that he became incredibly wealthy in just a few years of zero contact (pure CEO trope). I wish the show had focused more on their adult growth and trauma instead of rushing into an "instant marriage" after eight years apart.
Final Verdict
It delivered exactly what I expected: a basic, fun watch. I’m not disappointed, and I'll definitely be following He Yu’s future work.

A sizzling ride with a very bumpy road
I went into Speed and Love with very high energy. And for a good while, the drama absolutely delivered. Fast cars, nighttime Bangkok vibes, underground boxing, sizzling chemistry… and that mix of danger and romance? A clichéd bad boy meets good girl scenario? Sign me up! The first half of the drama was pure mindless fun, and honestly… I was addicted. What immediately won me over was the aesthetic. Bangkok at night looked gorgeous, the racing scenes had real energy. And Jin Zhao living and working in a garage was just my kind of vibe. This drama knows how to look good~!
Then there’s the romance. Jiang Mu and Jin Zhao’s chemistry is undeniable. Their shared past, the unspoken feelings and the slow build of intimacy made every lingering look feel so intense! I loved how protective Jin Zhao was, how Jiang Mu gained confidence and became proactive… They had so many soft moments. I was giggling and kicking my feet. Episodes 1–15 are exciting, spicy and mindless fun in all the right ways.
But then… the drama hit the brakes. Hard.
Once the undercover anti-smuggling plot and noble idiocy trope kicked in, the storytelling started to fall apart for me. Maybe I should have continued to switch off my brain completely, but that just didn't work so well anymore. Scene transitions became more choppy, timelines confusing, and emotional scenes kind of rushed.
I had high hopes for a truly gripping angst arc. I was so ready for it… but it all felt flat and frustrating instead. I have to say that the noble idiocy trope just isn’t working for me.
The biggest disappointment was how the drama handled their separation and reunion in the second half.
I do understand that Jin Zhao is deeply traumatized after everything he’s been through, and his fear of becoming a burden makes sense… but to that extreme extent!? I’m flabbergasted. And not in a good way. Shutting Jiang Mu out completely, denying her the chance to communicate properly and to make her own decisions, and letting even her family and friends (!!!) lie to her for SO MANY YEARS crossed a line for me. It made the angst feel forced, dragged out and unnecessarily cruel.
And after they reunite by pure chance, Jiang Mu’s anger and her hurt feelings barely had space to exist. She quickly slips back into chasing him and making the first move again and again. Seriousness and light-hearted comedy vibes often bounced back and forth too much for me here. By the time they are back together, I wasn’t swooning, I was tired…
That said, the actors really did great. Esther Yu and He Yu delivered nice emotional performances, especially during crying and confrontation scenes. And I did appreciate that the final few episodes leaned back into warmth and healing... wholesome hugs, forgiveness, growth, and Jin Zhao finally facing his fears. Nevertheless, I couldn't find the spark from the first half of the drama anymore. The storytelling and characters lost me.
The ending also felt underwhelming. The pacing was off, the focus strange. Why so little time on the actual couple and their wedding? Censorship, why?
Final thoughts:
Speed and Love started as a ridiculously fun, stylish, chemistry-filled ride that I couldn’t stop watching. Unfortunately, it lost its way in the second half with messy writing and frustrating tropes that dragged on for too long. After everything the early episodes made me feel, the payoff just didn’t hit as hard as it should have. But I’m still kind of generous with my rating and try to keep all the things in mind that I really enjoyed.

From speed to snooze
Speed and Love Started with a very exciting premise but the story really took a nose dive to an anti climatic end. The build up is tantalising and will get you hooked. The FL and ML do a really good job however the writers really limited their characters. The siblings to non siblings angle can be off putting however the writers made sure that every other scene in the first half of the drama they reminded us that they were not blood siblings. The racing part took over 2 thirds of the drams and suddenly disappeared- then we have a time jump which did not really move the characters along in understanding them. A missed opportunity for writers and directors to really use the accident, recovery period and the time that Mu Mu was missing Zhao and also looking after her mother to tap into deeper emotions.
This show was able to deliver eye candy, romance and bromance but plot was shallow and lacked depth. The parents were failures to both children - the mother abandoned the male child to an alcoholic father who could not look after him properly, before that she was already treating coldly in the house and had BL Anatoly said she did not want him there only to keep him there when Mu Mu spoke for the first time to call him. The father was an alcoholic who could not look after himself or the son and abandoned his daughter. Neither in the show sought redemption for the trauma they caused to the kids in my view. Yes dad stopped drinking and mum finally accepted Zhao however the writers missed another opportunity here.
She was separated from him for 6 years in that time she was being lied to by everyone and their dog about Jin Zhao- He had plenty of opportunity to talk to her- yet we still heard his story from others not him- Honestly frustrating. It just feels like everything seemed easy and wrapped up in a nice little bow. The drama is entertaining and beautifully shot. There is lots of chemistry between He Yu and Ester Yu which makes the romance really entertaining and easy to watch. They could have done more with this the latter half of the story. But hey ho! One of the better C drama’s this year and despite its flaws enjoyed the show.

misleading and dangerous mindset for young girls
Jiang Mu is a bad example for young girls because it promotes unhealthy and unrealistic ideas about relationships. The drama centers the female lead’s worth around romance, while romanticizing emotional dependency, possessiveness, and unequal power dynamics as signs of love. Most concerning is the incest aspect, where romantic feelings develop between characters raised in a sibling like or familial relationship and are framed as “forbidden love” rather than clearly condemned. This blurs important moral and social boundaries and risks normalizing inappropriate behavior. Overall, the drama sends harmful messages about self worth, boundaries, and what a healthy relationship should look like. Was this review helpful to you?

The drama was honestly so good the chemistry, the acting, the whole storyline kept me hooked. But the ending felt so rushed. I was really disappointed that they didn’t show him being reunited with Jiang Qiang’s family. How did they not visit them or even get their blessing? Jiang Qiang meant so much to him, so it felt weird that they just skipped over that. I was really looking forward to that moment, so the ending left me feeling kind of empty. Nothing but a beautiful masterpiece
To say I love it would be an understatement. It's a beautiful drama that has the most amazing scenes of Thailand and the locations are amazing. When it comes to the actors, Esther and He Yu were phenomenal with their acting. Having read the novel for this drama, I can assure you Esther and He Yu portrayed their respective characters really well! He Yu is an insane actor and he's improved so much since the last drama i saw of his. I would like to say personally, I think this drama was Esther's best performance to date.
Finally about the drama, the story was a little cut up in like (not sure) ep 21-22, maybe because of the censorship stuff but the drama itself is nothing less than a masterpiece. I absolutely loved it and they brought the novel to life in the most beautiful way possible. I wouldn't ask for anything else. I absolutely love love love it.

A drama that captures your heart!
Speed and Love is a super addictive drama that pulled me in from the very first episode. Starring Yu Shuxin as Jiang Mu and He Yu as Jin Zhao, the story is about two people whose lives separated in childhood due to a divorce and unexpectedly collide again years later. And don't you worry guys, the two main characters, Jiang Mu and Jin Zhao aren't siblings. They have no relationship between them expect that they lived together for a few years in their early lives. One of the drama’s biggest strengths is that the racing scenes are thrilling and visually striking, giving the show a strong sense of momentum. Jiang Mu and Jin Zhao’s chemistry is incredibly compelling. Jin Zhao’s every gaze toward Jiang Mu gave me butterflies because of He Yu’s specially impressive performance of how much he conveys through his eyes alone.
Visually, the drama is stunning. The cinematography gives the story a cinematic feel. The soundtracks perfectly complements the mood, and they were great songs as well. The pacing keeps the story engaging and makes it incredibly hard to stop watching once you start.
Overall, Speed and Love is a drama that leaves you wanting so much more. With only 29 episodes, it feels so less. I could watch 100 episodes of this story without getting tired of it. This drama has become my favourite cdrama ever, and I cannot get enough of it. I've read the novel a few years before this was released and im so happy it didn't follow the novels plot where he lost his leg :( I'll really be devastated if that were to happen. I truly hope Yu Shuxin and He Yu collaborate again in the future, whether in a historical or modern drama, because their chemistry is unforgettable. I'm going to rewatch the drama and reread the novel again!

Saved by the chemistry
The casting and the chemistry between leads really saved this drama. They did their best with what they had, and ML did a great job acting. The editing needed a lot of work. There were many inconsistencies in the storytelling along with a lot of scenes being cut that were brought up later, where they mention certain things happening that were cut out and never shown, making audiences question whether we missed something or if they forgot to include it.
Many small details like this could have been easily fixed by the production team but it seemed like they were either rushed on time or not detailed/careful enough.
Not the fault of the actors, but it's a shame that the editing inconsistencies brought down the quality and professionalism of the drama.
Overall, it was still a good watch as it's rare to have such chemistry in a drama. Still recommended if you're able to ignore the choppy editing and just focus on the feelings between the leads.

We Got Robbed!!! In A Good Way
I’m really not into the adopted siblings romance trope. That’s actually one of the reasons I dropped Go Ahead (please don’t hate me, I come in peace hahaha). So I was surprised when this drama completely stole my attention. I’m currently watching three Chinese dramas at the same time, and somehow, all of them are good. A rare miracle.I’ll be honest. I’m not a fan of Esther Yu, and I originally watched this drama purely because of He Yu. That was the plan. However, as I continued watching, I slowly started to like Esther here. Not in a “she took over my heart” way, but more of an “okay, I see you now” kind of way.
What hooked me early on was the Thailand arc in the first few episodes. It felt refreshing and different. No CEO male lead, no doctor, no “rich man saves the world” energy. You know exactly what I mean. It felt more grounded and natural, which made the story easier to enjoy.
One thing I truly appreciated was how the drama handled the parents. Jiang Mu’s parents finding healthy partners after their divorce, with zero toxicity, felt surprisingly mature. I was so scared that Jin Xin (Jiang Mu’s half-sister) would turn toxic, but thankfully, she didn’t. She’s actually one of us, and I loved that for her.
I also laughed way too hard whenever Lin Sui and Jin Zhao were together. At one point, my only thought was: What if Jin Zhao and Lin Sui ended up together, and Jiang Mu was with Wan Qing instead? I know, I know. Just a thought. A very loud thought.
I also feel like we never really got a proper second couple. Na Na and San Lai never officially became a thing, Wan Qing’s supposed partner ended up in jail, and I didn’t even expect Wan Qing to appear at the end. At least she wasn’t evil, so I’ll take that small win.
Now, the part I truly hated: the lack of communication. The whole “we don’t talk for three years because it’s for your own good” thing exhausted me. I was tired. Mentally. Emotionally. Spiritually. And after that time skip, I was really hoping to see Jealous Jin Zhao make a stronger comeback, because we were robbed.
That said, this drama left me hanging emotionally. I really felt like it needed more episodes, especially a proper marriage arc. I genuinely thought I’d see them walking down the aisle, but nope. My imagination had to do the work.
Overall, I’d give this drama a 8.5/10. There are a few things I didn’t like, but I’ll keep those to myself because I enjoy peace and surviving online. Still, this drama is highly recommendable, especially if you watched Go Ahead and you like romance.

Emotional honesty with Jiang Mu’s mother shows bravery, respect, and true commitment. Every glance, gentle push, and teasing smile signals a love that is strong, unshakable, and matured by trials. The stakes are high, yet their connection remains unbreakable, emphasizing devotion over drama.

Quiet proposal, ring on keychain, intimate and symbolic—no grandeur needed because their relationship is built on depth, history, and understanding. Elopement feels perfect: carefree yet emotionally complete, mirroring their personalities and journey. Jin Zhao’s devotion is evident in his patience, bravery, and willingness to create a life with Jiang Mu against all odds. Shared dreams, mutual respect, whispered promises, and lingering touches make this payoff both satisfying and cathartic. The ending emphasizes love as a daily choice, a partnership grounded in trust, protection, playfulness, and enduring passion. Their journey is now complete—emotionally, physically, and symbolically.

The chemistry and the emotions had me omg and the green flag characters
First of all, i don't write reviews often. I only write those for dramas that I geniunely love or dramas that i just don't like. So for me to write a review on this drama is a big deal even for me. ALL of my favorites that i have rewatched so many times i haven't even written a review for them but this drama was insane. Jin Zhao---he is the kind of guy every girl dreams of---he knows how to treat his woman right, become the kind of man she needs and even letting her go to prevent her from suffering. That man omg i can't even tell you, he was so gentle and kind and loving and caring just for her. I can't explain the amount of times i wanted to climb into my screen and hug that guy. I love everything about him. Jiang Mu----she is also such a green flag. After their breakup she waited 6 years for him---i mean c'mon she loves him way too much just the way he does. Both of them were the kind of couple that have understanding between them. I loved every second of this drama. Its like both of them fell at the same time and harder for each other the same way. I don't know how to move on from this masterpiece. I am definitely rewatching this as soon as possible. Was this review helpful to you?
Truly a MASTERPIECE✨ and the BEST way to finish the year
I don't even know where to start.I started this just to pass some time, but man, was I in for a RIDE.
Let me just start off with my new reason for living, simultaneously the bane of my existence-- HE YU. He is not just fine. I've seen some of his other works before, but in this one, he is just utterly... STUNNING. Magnetic. Irresistibly captivating😮💨. The producers and cameramen deserve a raise because the way the camera caught all his best angles and slow motion/close-ups? A cinematic masterpiece 👏🏻 Even qualities I highly dislike in men, he can somehow make appealing-- a mullet, the scar under his eye, his slight cleft chin, even his freaking SWEAT. Like, no way was I ovulating the whole time the drama aired LOL but he was just otherworldly attractive. 🥵🤤 And seeing all the behind the scenes of him actually driving his car? Unbelievable.
Okay, I digress.
The storyline itself sounded interesting enough to get me to start, though I'm not a fan of the Culpa Mia parallel where step siblings get together. In this one, they aren't even legally step siblings though, so that clarification really helped clear the air on their potential future relationship. I quite liked the drama starting off with them reuniting after a long break, with flashbacks aded here and there. I think if it started off with them as kids, it would NOT have had the same impact at all. It's the vagueness of how close they were as children, and whether or not they kept in touch til they became adults, that adds to the tension and curiosity as the episodes progress.
Side characters are always so crucial to a good storytelling, because you learn to form different opinions of different characters who help build the plot in their own ways, good or bad. Speed and Love had such an amazing set of side characters. Mike Angelo was such a nice addition to the cast, not just because of the nostalgic vibes he gives from his previous drama with Esther as the two leads, but he gives an almost mysterious vibe where you're unsure whether or not he'd be the villain. Watch to find out hehe. Otherwise, the friend group and even some others like Wan Qing may not have had a lot of screen time, but they gave such strong impact that you can't help but wish the drama were longer just so they could appear more.
Another small factor that I found really interesting and not something I see in many Chinese dramas, is how they filmed a LOT of episodes overseas. This one was in Thailand, and I just thought it brought such an interesting setting and ambience that filming in a set can't bring. The authenticity was nice, though they did noticeably dub a lot of the Thai dialogue. I have yet to watch their variety show spinoff Thai is Sweet, but that's because I feel like finishing that will really mean I'm saying goodbye, which I don't think I'm ready to do yet🥲
And finally, our leads and their chemistry🧪hahah
Esther Yu is such an adorable actress, with her bubbly🥰 character really giving a strong impression in all the dramas she stars in. Because of how strong her character is, she is both positively and negatively criticized in all her works, but I quite liked her in this one. She does have the naive girl persona, but it fits her character as the younger sister, and there is a considerable change after the time skip in her maturity. If I had to choose one thing that did bother me, it would maybe be how she pouts😗 a lot when kissing her male partners, so it may seem like she's not immersing herself into a romantic scene. But regardless, her crying scenes were quite emotional and I think her performance was great. Back to our male lead😅 He Yu, like I said, was truly the scene stealer. Sorry to everyone else, but his character was the PERFECT "bad boy is not really bad and actually cares for those he loves" with the almost-rugged look as a car mechanic, and then the complete flip when he races oh my goodness. Even later on in the drama when they're a bit older, his style completely changes, and he's still SO ATTRACTIVE in a cleaner smart-boy look... though preference-wise I surprisingly found the former more charismatic and appealing. BOTH WORK THOUGH hahaha 👏🏻bravo. UGH this character will be SO SO HARD to beat in the future.
Their chemistry grows at the most PERFECT pace. They obviously aren't that close in the beginning, but as they spend more time together you can literally see how important one sees the other, and the small acts of affection even before they get together are sweeter than honey🍯 And when they do get together? Just more perfectness.
The soundtrack was also perfect. A different song for a different vibe, and matching the tension. Especially paired with the camera zooming in on details like clenched hands, or capturing angles in such mesmerizing ways.
THIS DRAMA JUST GAVE ME THE FEELS IN EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. Trust me and give this a go. I'll probably rewatch this 30 times before I die. Can't believe it's already over😭
