K-Drama
Overall a great show!
This was my first cdrama in a while and I only ever watched Lighter and Princess with Zhang Jing Yi which I loved. So that being said, I had no clue who Song Weilong was but his fantastic acting made me look him up and I saw the craze about him and I completely understand! What a fantastic performance by all the actors! I grew to love the side characters as well.
The story itself hooked me from the first scene and it's been a while since I woke up earlier so I could watch more before work. I couldn't stop thinking about this drama! 🫣
Overall, it had a massive potential but in the middle, the story dragged awfully. So much so that I didn't feel like watching but was too invested in the ending.
Towards the end the story picked up pace and it got very action-y, interesting and high-stakes. I felt like many issues that were the main trouble of the storyline could be explored more in depth. It felt surface level at some point but still solid enough.
The ending was totally worth it. It definitely made me feel like crying.
Beautiful and interesting story.
I will rewatch for sure

I went into this drama not expecting it to leave such a deep impression on me, but somehow it did. I’m in love with their love. It wasn’t perfect, but it was theirs. Their relationship felt so warm, safe and incredibly homey. There was something so tender about the way they were physically close to each other, even in the smallest moments. And the CHEMISTRY? TOE-CURLING. Even when they were simply looking at each other, you could feel everything.
MiaoJing and ChengYi were everything to me. The way ChengYi protects her, the way he treats her like she’s his baby, was beautiful. But what I loved most was that it was never one-sided. MiaoJing was fearless and completely non-negotiable when it came to protecting him too. She simply wanted ChengYi for ChengYi, with no conditions attached. She loved him for who he was, not for what he could become.
One of my favourite dialogues is when BoZai tells the 2FL, who honestly doesn’t even feel like a traditional second female lead because he makes his boundaries with her very clear, that “MiaoJing is different from everyone else. She’s his whole world.”
And episode 17. EPISODE 17. That was my absolute favourite scene. The acting, especially from the ML, gave me actual goosebumps. They were phenomenal. The emotions, the intensity and the way everything was conveyed had me completely glued to the screen. That scene alone reminded me why I love watching dramas.
I also absolutely adored ChengYi’s two best friends. They were wonderful, and somehow they had me missing my own friends. Their friendship brought so much warmth and humour to the story, and I genuinely enjoyed every moment they were on screen.
The story itself was also so well done. I loved that the mysteries and questions were actually answered properly instead of being dragged out endlessly or forgotten along the way. Everything I wondered about eventually came together, and the story wrapped up beautifully.
The side characters were amazing too. Also, somehow, by the end, I had grown attached to Teng City as well.
I also loved watching the passage of time throughout the drama. There was something incredibly nostalgic about seeing their (and ours) lives change and watching their relationship grow through different stages.
More than anything, this was a beautiful love story. A love that felt safe, warm, protective, passionate and deeply personal. A love where both people choose each other, not because they are perfect, but because they are each other’s person.
Love For You left me with a feeling that I know is going to linger for a very long time.
A beautiful love story that will stick with me for a long time.

Chen Yi is the imperfectly perfect male lead
This drama felt very unique to me; maybe it’s because I haven’t watched enough c-dramas. I loved the 1990s setting, the atmosphere and cinematography felt oddly comforting and warm, even when it was clear that Chen Yi and Miao Jing did not live very comfortable lives. The story starts off with Chen Yi and Miao Jing being forced together in one home as their Jing’s mum begins a relationship with Yi’s dad out of convenience. Both come from very broken families; Yi’s dad is extremely abusive and Jing’s mother only seems to care about money. Despite some people’s confusion, Jing and Yi are NOT biological siblings, they aren’t related in any way and Jing wasn’t even adopted into Yi’s family. So their romantic relationship is not weird. Eventually, circumstances lead to Yi having to take care of Jing financially and he essentially takes on the burden of being her caregiver while also falling in love with her during their teen years. How do I start describing Chen Yi? He is the definition of ‘I will take care of it, don’t worry.’ He cares for and loves Miao Jing in every way and their relationship unfolding in their teen years was genuinely one of the most beautiful portrayals of love I’ve ever seen. As I watched each episode, it was clear that Chen Yi ONLY cared about Miao Jing; every decision he made seemed to be with her in mind, even at the expense of his own safety. Circumstances lead to them being separated and their reunion is adulthood unfolded very slowly. In adulthood, Miao Jing is an auditor who is investigating the company Chen Yi works for, and they end up getting involved in danger. Obviously, there’s some tension as Chen Yi doesn’t want Miao Jing to get hurt, but there’s also a lot of misunderstandings because of this. I think the chemistry of the leads really made this drama so good! Most of what people will criticise including me, is the dragging of the auditing report thing. I genuinely still don’t completely understand what the danger was or why so many scenes were focused on the auditing, but it got really boring at some points, so I definitely skipped through some scenes.
Also, Cen Ye (the second lead) was SO annoying. Usually, I at least sympathise for the second male leads in dramas but this guy pissed me off. I felt sorry for Chen Yi’s fake gf at times and at least she backed off eventually - her story was really sad to be honest.
Overall, the main leads makes this drama a 9-9.5/10 - I’ve watched so many dramas but this couple will stay with me for a longggg time! I think this is worth the watch if you’re looking for a slow-burn childhood enemies to lovers kind of c-drama!

Excellent except for spoilt brat "princess"behaviour ",
I highly recommend this drama. The directing, editing acting are absolutely brilliant. Song Wei Long has all the correct micro expression and bad -arse attitude to fit this role unlike his previous other role. I am very impressed. Zhang chingyi acted well too, unfortunately the script writers made this FL role into a totally annoying spoilt-bratty princess.A lot of miscommunication until Episode 22 onwards there's some realisation that they simply love each other too much and sacrificed too much, but it came across as FL being unreasonable and "over testing"the boundary
A word of caution for Chinese producers and writers
(It's time Chinese producers or even the Chinese government look into this level of women "model", it's good that women have equal power and standing as men in society but acting spoilt and unreasonable, demanding is NOT COOL. It's giving the impression to the whole world that China women are totally demanding SPOIT BRATS!!! There are many millions of pure bred Chinese women who are highly educated OUTSIDE of china amongst third generation immigrants who would never behave like this, it's totally shameful if Chinese women are evolving into spoilt brat demanding unreasonable females -it annoys everyone if cdrama continue to show this kind of behaviour )
Other than that, this drama is really really good but I didn't give a 10 simply because they made the FL totally weird and unreasonable

Purest form of love, insane chemistry, loose writing (vague spoilers)
I suppose I shouldn't be so harsh on a drama that I thoroughly enjoyed and invested emotion in till episode 25 but the taste of disappointment of a show that could have been a masterpiece but was held back because of lazy writing in the last few episodes--is far too bitter. I have absolutely no qualms from the cast and the chemistry, everyone gave their best performance and made me feel every bit of emotion their character was bringing to the table.Especially Song Weilong-this man utterly charmed me with his rough edges but softest portrayal and most intense gaze of a complex character like Chen Yi, not once did I feel disconnected or wanted to look away when he was on screen. Zhang Jingyi, my girl, you are an utter diva who made an absolute fan out of me- this was my first drama of her's. She was so bold, fierce, made me feel for her even when Miao Jing was being an absolute menace. Their chemistry was off the charts yet it was so organic- like an actual couple who had found each other after 6 years of separation, every moment was tense and crackling. Their kisses were absolutely lethal and passionate, and their hugs charged with emotion. They got every phase so right: that enemies to lovers adolescent one, that slow spark at teenage, that connection of caring in crisis, being together against the world, found family when utterly alone, and developing insane attraction for that special person as hormones rage. The adult phase too was so good: the angst, the bitterness, the raw tension and heated gazes, but also the yearning and selflessness from both sides. These two loved each other their entire lives almost and always chose the other over the self only to realise that that very care was getting int he way: IMAGINE THE SELFLESSNESS. The cinematography was so well done with the scenes being shown, I am never forgetting that one of Miao Jing in the rain with umbrella while Chen Yi scourged the heap of garbage for her lost earrings, getting soaked while sheltering her---that WAS EVERYTHING TO ME!!
Now comes to the part which I have issues with and why I was left feeling so angry with the last couple episodes despite being an absolute fan of it for 20 episodes or so. I am so so so disappointed with the way they blended the past story and cut it abruptly to give leap- it was disruptive but I kept calm thinking we would get flashbacks which WE DIDNT! THIS WAS THE MOST INFURIATING PART OF THE SHOW FOR ME: they gave ONE flashback and it came at the worst possible time (towards the final episodes) by which point I no longer cared about the past and was too invested in my Yi JIng's present and future. They turned one of the most anticipated sequences (first fire and second fire) into ones I skipped through because the emotions fell flat. The writers forgot that they had given us a tease of break up scene pre-leap and never showed it which made the story feel so broken. We got them talking about the future and everyday domesticity but never GOT TO SEE THE ACTUAL REWARDING MOMENTS of Chen Yi showing Miao Jing his new pool hall or proposing to her. The ending was so bland that I FELT NOTHING WHEN IT ENDED! They could have given us everything IF THEY HAD CUT OUT excessive scenes of auditing, case investigations, and Zhang Bin which I HAD NO INTEREST IN because this story was emotion and character driven! I am still seething with rage BECAUSE MY CHEN YI AND MIAO JING DESERVED BETTER, THEIR CHEMISTRY DESERVED MORE!
We got the purest journey of love, domestic bliss, insane chemistry, hottest kisses and makeout session, complex characters but the production team screwed up the final 6 episodes! So yes I would come to rewatch this but skip aggressively epi 25 onwards every single time!

A Darker Love Story Than I Expected
I genuinely had no idea what I was getting into with Love for You. I knew it was darker, but I definitely wasn’t expecting a full-on melodramatic thriller. I thought I was getting two people falling in love during a very toxic period of their lives, but it ended up being so much deeper than that, with fraud, revenge, family trauma, sacrifice, and a surprisingly solid plot. Honestly, I think this is such an underrated drama—but it’s definitely not for everyone.First of all, this is easily my favorite Song Weilong performance. I’ve watched him in so many dramas, and this is the most natural and impressive I’ve ever seen him. For the first time, I never had those moments where I could feel him acting; he completely became the character. I also realized that he suits darker, tougher, slightly bad-boy melodramatic characters SO much more than the typical CEO role. Those sad, emotionally heavy scenes are made for him. His acting genuinely blew me away and was probably one of the biggest highlights of the entire drama for me. My only wish is that they had pushed his character even further into the darkness. I would’ve loved to see more of his psychological struggles, depression, and the effects of his past. That would’ve been far more interesting to me than some of the storylines we actually got.
And Zhang Jingyi—OH MY GOD, she is GORGEOUS. Once she became an adult, I genuinely could not take my eyes off her. Her acting was also beautiful. I know her character probably pissed a lot of people off, and maybe with another actress she would’ve annoyed me too, but it’s Jingyi, so she can do whatever she wants 😭. I actually liked how determined and head-on she was. She knew what she wanted and went after it instead of waiting around for someone else. She reminded me so much of her character in Lighter & Princess, which I loved, and honestly both leads gave me little Lighter & Princess vibes with their characters.
And THE CHEMISTRY. Easily one of the show’s strongest points. I did not expect them to work this well together, but visually, acting-wise, chemistry-wise—they were so well suited. Their chemistry was off the charts without the drama needing to constantly throw romantic scenes at us. Their relationship is built much more around being each other’s support system than conventional romance, and I actually loved that. It’s less “I love you, you love me” and more about what they’re willing to do for each other. Though I wish we saw more of them together, cause they were on fire together.
Especially him. I feel like the entire show is basically built around him sacrificing himself for her. Almost everything he ever does is ultimately about taking care of her. Even when he goes to the darker side and joins Ben, part of it is because he wants money for her tuition. Again and again, he puts her before himself, and I loved how his love was expressed through his actions and sacrifices. That being said, these two REALLY needed to learn how to communicate 😭.
I obviously wasn’t a fan of the sibling aspect, especially because the first part leans much more heavily into that dynamic. But I think the drama handled the transition better than I expected. Eventually, I stopped really feeling like they were brother and sister and saw it more as two people who had spent their lives supporting and protecting each other. The latter half definitely worked much better for me in that regard.
Plot-wise, I was genuinely surprised by how much was going on. I expected more of a “life happens” kind of story, but suddenly we’re dealing with fraud, revenge, schemes, auditing, etc. 😭 The revenge plot was actually interesting, and I was rarely bored—although the second they started talking about auditing, they lost me. This isn’t really a drama you watch purely for cute romance or something chill. It’s for people who enjoy darker melodrama, complicated relationships, revenge, and a story with more depth.
My biggest problem is that it was simply too long. This could’ve easily been around 28 episodes and been much tighter. The episodes surrounding the mother’s return were by far the weakest for me. I was bored, and honestly, I didn’t think she deserved the justice/redemption she got after everything she did to her daughter. I especially didn’t like that she was forgiven. I would’ve happily traded that entire storyline for a deeper exploration of Song Weilong’s character and his psychological struggles. Once the drama moved past that and returned to the revenge plot, though, it picked up again.
The writing also wasn’t always as polished as it could’ve been. There were quite a few threads and ideas introduced where I kept thinking, Why did you put this here if you’re never going to explain or explore it? The drama opens several doors and then just leaves them there. Even the actual revenge payoff became unnecessarily confusing and, in my opinion, wasn’t written particularly well. And the police were basically background support 😭. If they had actually done their jobs properly, this drama would’ve ended much earlier.
One character I absolutely loved, though, was Uncle Zhu. His storyline with Wenwen genuinely broke my heart. It felt like almost everyone eventually got some form of happy ending except him. I also loved his relationship with Chen and Miao Jing. Because neither of them really grew up with supportive parents, he became this parental figure in their lives, along with Wenwen, and there was something so beautiful and heartbreaking about that.
I also have to give the drama credit for its final episode. They actually gave the story room to breathe and wrapped everything up calmly instead of suddenly speed-running the ending, which I really appreciated. It felt like they gave the drama the ending it deserved.
Overall, there’s a lot to love here: great characters, no unnecessary love triangle, insane chemistry, beautiful cinematography and costumes, amazing OSTs—especially the songs by the actors—and some of the best acting I’ve seen from these leads. It’s darker and much more melodramatic than I expected, but it was still very entertaining and never felt particularly difficult to watch.
I would definitely recommend Love for You, but to the right audience. If you’re coming purely for a fluffy romance or rom-com, this is probably not it. The romance is absolutely there, but it’s expressed more through sacrifice, protection, support, and simply being there for each other. At its core, this feels just as much like an action-thriller/revenge melodrama as it does a romance.
It has its flaws, it could’ve been shorter and tighter, and some storylines desperately needed more development—but overall, this was a surprisingly solid, emotional, and underrated drama that gave me something completely different from what I expected.

Another SWL disappointment
Following dozens of reviews so won’t be redundant but bigger disappointment than Shine On Me. Discovered ML in Find Yourself where he was so likable, endearing and passionate* (19 when filmed). While his acting technique has improved as he matured none of his roles since have come close. At least Shine On Me had an original story with good flow and growth and likable FL character/actress unlike Zhang Jing Yi. Most interesting part of story was police officer and late wife that should have received more time as left guessing…due to episode cut number assume. Thankful The Road to Success filed my summer void. *Several scenes wound not pass C todayWas this review helpful to you?
One day, the boy's father dies, and the girl's mother flees without telling anyone. The two children are left alone. The boy starts taking care of everything for her, from her education to her basic daily needs. Eventually, they fall in love with each other.
A few days later, he asks her to leave him because he is tired of her, and she leaves. A few years later, she comes back and tries to find out the truth about why he left her. Gradually, their relationship improves, but...
This is just a glimpse of the story.
As for my personal review, I think it is a cute love story with lots of ups and downs.

Bloated Script
This drama was about 15 episodes too long. The auditing story line was way too drawn out and boring. And the things that the FL did as part of that auditing team were not realistic. Plus, she continued to be mad that he was trying to protector, yet once she told him to stop, she immediately needed help.I didn't care for the FL much when she came back after 6 years. She was snippy, and petty. I didn't like the addition of the ex-boyfriend and the immature way the ML acted.
But, for all my complaints, I love the chemistry of the ML and FL leads.

Too long.
Honestly. Chinese Dramas need to cut down like Korean Dramas. Is it really necessary for a drama to be over 30 episodes long??? The storyline in this 1 started off great but it got super boring after episode 10.C Dramas should be atleast 12-18 episodes long.
I don't know if i'll continue this but its ridiculously boring.
I've seen C Dramas with many episodes in the past that was simply brilliant such as Only for Love, Persuit of Jade, some with Zhao Lusi and they were amazingly good.
But this...it should've been over by now.

Got boring
I was enjoying this at first, but then the last few eps I was losing interest. I honestly find Chen Yi and Miao Jing’s job subplot super boring. It just didn’t spike my interest. I didn’t even understand what was going on till someone explained it. Two eps focused entirely on the job subplot, and i was so miserable😭. It was so freaking confusing to understand. But, Besides that, I really did love and enjoy the romance, but i just lost interest in the show entirely. ..i did love the music tho🥹Was this review helpful to you?
