READ THE NOVEL!!! (trust me, you will love it)
(Disclaimer: I didn't use spoiler tag because the drama and novel are too different from each other)Usually I don't give any reviews but now I just couldn't resist myself. I watched till ep 20 and stopped to read the novel. In the beginning, I couldn't stand Chen Yi and thought thank god the drama version of him is so much better. But I persisted, I was curious how will they both end up together after such irreversible damage done to each other.
I maybe right or wrong but after ep 20, I stopped watching any reels or edits of the later episodes so I woudn't know how its going on. Initially, while reading I imagined SWL and ZJY but later it struck me how different the drama version made them.
Chen Yi is crude, swores frequently, Tu Li was his actual gf AND lived with him. She found out that he lusts for the girl whom he claims to everyone around as 'younger sister'.
Miao Jing is too cold and berated him at any chance. She is more aloof than the drama version, offered herself to him at 18.
So as you can see there is a lot going, too many mistakes and impulsive decisions which can make one think if these 2 are really the perfect match?
but in the latter half of the novel they prove how compatible and made for each other they are. All the hardships that they faced strengthened their bond, 2 kids abandoned by their parents, braving storms amidst misunderstanding but at the end of the day support each other. They are too different from the traditional relationships we are accustomed to. Because they were forced to grow and mature fast, rely on themselves for food(yup literally food, they were scavenging because there was no adult to provide for them). Chen Yi was Miao Jing's father, mother, brother AND lover; and Miao Jing was Chen Yi's mother, father, sister AND lover. Sounds too unusual right? but hey, who are we to judge? With such circumstances, I don't think any of us could have even survived. If I were in MJ or CY's place, I would have unalived myself. I am not joking.
[And thank god this is just a novel, I am not someone who really likes the idea of marriage and children BUT after reading I made a vow that if I ever have a child I would treat them with the utmost care and make them feel loved.]
I just wanted to give a hug to both of them
I still don't get why the drama changed MJ's job to auditing. 90% of the novel is pure angst and tension and all about their relationship so I think they wanted to add some more extra in the crime genre side to make up for the screentime. But with the release of chinese BLs like Revenged Love and ABO: Desire, I thought they will be more open-mided to such scenes but ig we are still have a long way to go.
My fav part: Them going to Columbia and the novel covering those years is the peak amount of love and affection. You could feel it as if you were right near them third-wheeling. (Kudos to the author for such immersive storytelling)
I just absolutely loved and devoured those chapters. MJ and CY gets married, has a cute baby girl, and return to Tengcheng. You could see them living such fulfilling lives as if compensating for their lost carefree childhood. Ahhhhh gosh, they moved me to tears. I just love them soooo muchhhh.
I wish the drama version gives justice to their relationship.
Guysss please give the novel a try.

Love Wins
This is a story of trama , healing and love. Children growing up in an unstable home searching for love and care from parents who do not have an ounce of love for their children. Both parents are driven by financial needs and are only concerned with their own needs. However the children form a bond that sustain them for a lifetime. You will see how love evolves and the care they have for each other. This turns out to be a wonderful love story and I would highly recommend it. Drama Grandma. Was this review helpful to you?

The story starts of well, there is good backstory for both ML and FL's childhood and how they act and why they act as such. As viewers you can't hope but root it all goes well then the story goes downhill. I won't even bother about the time-skip. Fast forward post time-skip, the plot heavily depends upon tax fraud, laundering but there isn't enough scenes for us watchers to get hooked to it. I was very interested in the police officers wife, she was introduced in the turning point of the drama. They showed very late as to what happened to her -another pacing issue.
The chemistry between the leads is the sole reason I watched this alongside finding out what happened to the officers wife and why the officer still stayed home as a captain even after 6 years.
Lastly writers seriously need to come up with something better than the c-card for pity points man.

The bodyguard
I was always watching this right when the new episodes dropped every night, but then as the story kept going I got tired keeping up with what felt like repeats. When they were younger I could understand why ml did certain things. The problem is when he got older. A complete mess and a boring guy.
Honestly, I didn't get why fl liked him still even after returning home. He was annoying... always pushing her away... and they still didn't get together officially.
She gets into a mess.
He protects.
Coworker gets to town.
He gets jealous.
Why get jealous when you not even officially with her? Really exhausting storyline.
Another fl wasting time on someone who just can't get it together. I get he got issues, but I would understand if she says "we're done and I'm moving out of here!" But I know that's not how it'll end so I'm leaving now. Because I know I won't make it till 32 episodes of this without rolling my eyes... skipping scenes... and rushing for it to be over.

Top notch performances from the leads
8 episodes and I am totally reeled in. It was hard watching the youngsters surviving on their own amidst scraps and recycling, but the acting was top notched. The vulnerability, giving all to protect despite having so little, was heart tugging. My fav drama from SWL so far and ZJY nailed the young Miao Jing. She is fast cementing her place as one of my fav female actresses, one that speaks so much with her eyes. Not your sweet, lovey romance drama (although the chemistry is palpable). I fear there's more angst from external factors to come but I imagine life is hard for many out there.

Type of drama where you should turn off your brain.
Ill start off with the good. I think the two leads have really good chemistry like I can buy them being a couple. I quite enjoy the pacing of the story and how he treated her during her highschool years. I think that era was the most fun to watch for me.I think my one criticism of this story is the iffy step siblings plot. Sure they aren't related by blood but they knew each other ever since they were like 10 and treated each other as such. I find it kinda weird how the moment she turned 18 he started viewing her as more. Of course they're not related by blood but before that he was treating her just as someone he needed to take care of. I personally would've enjoyed it more if he had a relationship outside of her before he started dating her at 18.
But ignoring this whole ethical debate and just focusing on their chemistry I can confidently say it is a very entertaining show.
The writing and storyline for the first half is so fun to watch but once she comes back after a couple years, thats when the story starts to decline a bit. In the first half I couldn't wait to watch the next episode but during the second half I could feel myself starting to get bored.

So far not boring at all
Reviewing while ongoing!! I just want to tell you since it's a 32 number of episode...it's really long duration for me...so as for now it's not boring at all...One kiss so far
One thing makes me laughing that both telling everyone that they are siblings but one the other side they already kissed once😉
Police officer and his wife so beautifully I have to say🥰
Ok let's see how it goes...best of luck to me🥴

I wanted so love this so much!
I just had to push myself through trying to watch this. It just seemed to drag and have so much conflict for no reason. The FL's character was so blase and yet bland. The ML was so damaged - justifiably! - but the lengths he went to for her and yet didn't do anything, and was just such a confusing character.I kept trying to go back and finish it but just couldn't and dropped it after trying to watch episode 28 and was yet more unnecessary angst. The FL's monotone portrayal was irritating. I also don't get why in almost every Cdrama the characters are virgins or virginal (not the FL in this case) - just seems so unnecessary and adds yet more unnecessary tropes to this already all over the place show (the back and forth of the eras was irritating).
