I know some people have expressed some criticisms or disappointments with certain aspects of the drama or they feel let down as it winds down and some people don't want to say what they feel because they'll be called a hater. Please give your thoughts here as I'm interested in them. I haven't watched the drama yet and it helps me be aware when I do check it out.
This isn't for people who want to bash the drama nor is it for people who want to attack anyone who doesn't praise it wholeheartedly. People have different views and reasoned points of view should always be allowed without hate.

yes for me I feel like they suck at pacing they will introduce us to a new character and a new storyline then for the next 2 to 4 episodes never mention them or show a single scene also I don't like the way they introduce new characters like we are immediately supposed to know who they are.
Thank you. This is something that bugs me in a drama, too. I have enough trouble keeping track of characters without this happening!

It's not a bad drama but it's just uncessary long in my opinion they took to much time to explain common plotlines. I know many people may not agree with me on this

I appreciate your comment. I rarely can finish a 40 ep 45m drama so at least I know there are parts I can likely FF through!
contrary to lovelydove419 I think its not long enough to make the perfekt addaption/drama. 40 episodes may in this case be not enough but I have not yet watched past epi 34 so I cannot state if they dragged the last episode,s as often seen in other c-dramas.

I honestly feel that you should find out yourself! Every rating are formed from certain biases/preferences. I personally enjoyed the drama even when I thought some scenes were not necessary or what they “should’ve” done. The production did its best to make everything connect. I just think some criticism are valid when it comes to the drama itself but when another tries to criticize some fans who enjoyed the drama that’s when I know people just wanted to hate 🤷🏻♀️
If I want to watch historical woman empowerment drama, I would watch "Blossom." Coming from the same director, but Blossom hits different. In Blossom, ML and FL are a solid team, husband and wife. It gives a better message about empowerment and partnership.
If I want to watch legendary female general story, I would pick "Fated Hearts". We have a baddass and believable female general here whose capacity is comparable to the ML, and they formed good partnership and cooperation without compromising one another.
For mystery and revenge, "The Double" is the one. I can mention more.
POJ is a beautiful production with beautiful people, but it fails to serve the genre effectively whatever is it historical political, romance, comedy, mystery, military, war, or revenge and tragedy.
So the shows you’ve mentioned highlighted how effective they served the genre. Again, based on my own personal preference it works for me romcom wise but it terms of establishing the revenge/war/conflict (I haven’t finished the show so it seems that’s what they r focused on for the second half) they weren’t able to solidify that plot.

That's a good idea and if I only had a few dramas on my PTW list I'd do that, but I have way too many to watch them all. If I can sort out some that I know I definitely wouldn't like because of certain issues then that saves me time. And 40 eps at 45m each is a lot of time to invest if something is going to happen in an episode at the end that will make me wish I hadn't spent time watching the entire drama. This is my preference in how I approach watching dramas.

You're not the first comment that has mentioned this. For me, though, I can rarely sit through an entire 40 ep drama without FF or skipping sections, even when I really like the drama/actors. That doesn't necessarily mean I don't like the drama, just that I don't want to spend time on parts I find unnecessary or boring.
@anitfa Thank you for mentioning Fated Hearts. I watched some of it and dropped it when it came out, but from your comment and several others I've read I'm probably going to give it another try when I get an Iqiyi membership again. Loved The Double (except for a couple characters' death, which broke my heart).
I would love to see more passionate moments between leads, and the whole bunch of characters in capital seem superficial. But it’s also annoying how they decided to try and make them deeper in the end. There is not enough time to understand emperor and chancellors, and yet they took lots of screen time in the episode 34. And main characters didn’t have as much screen time.
I personally love the first half of the series episode 28 ish, i think it's really good and i love the chemistry and the caring love but after that? Eps 30+ are filled with politics, feels a bit rushed and I don't really know why but it just fell off for me. I came here to seek the answer on why i felt that way..? Is it just me or people who have watched up to eps 40 feels the same?

It's a weird decision, isn't it, to give side characters more screen time than main characters, who are frequently why people watch a drama in the first place.
