Hooked. Highly recommended

Well, a refreshing story, funny that captivates you.
The acting is perfect, no childish behaviors, the crime game within the plot is something new that i really love.

lead and supportive actors are all good. I love the lead actress, no useless mimics , just what is needed

So far, 10 episodes, i watched in 2 days,..... waiting for the next

the only negative point, is the music or songs , the volume is high which is annoying. plus because i watch with subtitles , the lyrics covers the subtitled discussion, ..... actually I can't put that on the series, can I :-)

It’s a Winner

What with beautiful, multi-faceted, and highly talented lead actors playing their roles excellently, and a well-written, complex story, what could be bad?

There are numerous things going on in the present, as well as under the surface, and in the past, to keep you intrigued every minute, and anticipating what comes next, for the whole story.

My one criticism is that they didn’t create enough “rising tension” throughout.

And I feel bad for Pei & Gong.
(As of ep. 21)

The next thing to watch!

After finishing Shine on Me, I was desperate for my next modern romance fix. Since this drama aired right after Shine on Me ended, it felt like the easiest transition—and I’m so glad I jumped in. I was immediately intrigued by the Republic of China–era setting and the premise of an ex-fiancé abandoning the female lead on her engagement day, so I didn’t hesitate to start this series.

I won’t go into the plot summary since MDL already does a great job without heavy spoilers. That said, I genuinely think everyone should give this drama a chance—especially if you’re feeling the same post-Shine on Me withdrawal that I am.

What I’m loving so far:

The Republic era being part of a game is such an interesting setup, and it’s also where the two leads first meet. I love how tenacious the female lead is—after losing the first time, she dives back into the game determined to win against the male lead. That moment was when I knew I was hooked. I’ve always adored Lu Yu Xiao and her choice of roles, and this one is no exception.
The strong supporting cast is another major highlight, especially seeing so many familiar faces. The last time I watched Dai Xu was in The Legend, which feels like ages ago, so I was excited to see him here. Wang Run Ze was another pleasant surprise—I remember loving him as the second male lead in A Little Thing Called First Love. I also didn’t expect Ren You Lun to show up as the best friend’s husband, and I really enjoyed seeing him in such a warm, supportive role since I’m used to his tougher, colder characters. Of course, the two main leads are the reason I started this drama, but the supporting cast has been just as enjoyable to watch.

The pacing of the story and the undeniable chemistry between the leads really work for me. I love the subtle push and pull in their relationship, and how quietly yet meaningfully they help each other confront their weaknesses and past trauma. It’s understated, but that’s exactly why it feels so genuine.

Much like Shine on Me, this has quickly become a drama I look forward to watching every morning—and I can already tell it’s going to be hard to let go when it ends. Currently, this is going for a strong 9/10 for me!

UPDATE review 2/23/25

I finally found the time to wrap up my review for Love Between the Lines. I had so many thoughts jotted down and so many things I loved, but in the end, I’m just summarizing the top things I loved and what I wish had been different.

From the beginning, we knew there was foreshadowing about the ML’s hidden past. I just wasn’t expecting it to be such a major event that would take up most of the second half of the series. Because of that, I had to find something else to adore. I’m probably in the minority here, but second lead Dai Xu really kept me going. Every time he had screen time, I fangirled a bit, made heart eyes, and kept watching the series hoping he’d get more scenes.

I was also told that he and the FL actually dated in the novel. I tried reading it so I could compare it to the drama — the way I did with Shine on Me — but the first chapter was packed with so much detail that I struggled to keep up. I’ll have to go back and find that important kiss scene when I have a bit more time.

Love Between the Lines started as something fun and a fix for my need for a modern romance drama. I was excited about the cast, especially the game where they kept meeting. I felt it was such an important part of the series — it was where they met, where they fell in love, where they kissed, and where she tried to kick his butt because she was angry at him. That was probably the biggest reason I kept watching (besides Dai Xu).

I’m giving this a slightly lower rating, mainly because I didn’t love the direction it took. I was hoping for another fluffy romance series, and this just wasn’t it for me.

7.5/10

"27 Kisses and Zero Toxic Drama: The Healthiest Relationship Ever

I’ve seen many dramas, but the relationship in Love Between Lines is easily the healthiest I have ever encountered. The 'sad' parts didn't feel like forced angst; instead, they made the leads' bond even more impactful.
The standout for me was their first kiss in the VR murder mystery game. Even though Xiao Zhiyu (played by Chen Xingxu) was struggling with his father’s trauma and felt he needed to distance himself from Hu Xiu (Lu Yuxiao), their trust was already unshakable. I loved how they chose to resolve their conflicts through brilliant conversations rather than misunderstandings. Hu Xiu was such a strong FL—I especially cheered when she confronted Pei Zhen for disturbing the ML during the game.
The lack of typical 'trust issues' was so refreshing. Even when he hid things to protect her, she forgave him wholeheartedly, trusting that he would never truly harm her. This maturity made their chemistry—including those 27 unique kisses—feel incredibly deep. Even the jealous moments were just plain cute, like when Gong Huai Cong teased her and she went to check on the ML.
The final two episodes were everything I wanted. Unlike dramas with 'absurd' endings, this one was satisfying and included a great Easter egg credit. Seeing them support each other’s careers even while apart was the perfect realistic touch.
I have liked Lu Yuxiao since My Journey to You, where she stole the spotlight as a secondary lead playing a very complex character. Recently, she has transitioned into main roles, and starting from Love in the Clouds, she really began to shine as a leading lady. Her project choices are getting better and better, and I am highly anticipating her current project, Dancing with the Tide, which also features a complex character

There is a lot of PDA in this series.

I liked the first half much more than the second. Maybe because of the game being part of the story in the beginning and slowly fading away in the second part. There is a lot of PDA in this series once the male characters get together and I wasn't really feeling all that sexy stuff, but it was well written, well played and well edited. Just not for me to have so much of hot, intense kisses.

Both lead characters are very likeable and highly inteligent, talented individuals. But I forgot many times that they are both very smart and cunning (as they show while playing the game). I think I had a little of mental overlap with "Shine on Me" that came out just before this drama. I was making mistakes in what I remembered about characters backgrounds and traits (especially in the 2nd part of the series where workplace played a crucial role). It was a very good drama but it was hard for it to challange "Shine on Me" in my heart when it came out so close.

It was really fun to watch all the characters. The second couple was very heartwarming. I have to be honest though I liked the 2nd ML much more than the main ML. Maybe because of all the shorts I watched in between or maybe because of the actor who made a great impression on me already in "The Legends". It was his face & the character. The way he faced an internal conflict, displayed depth of feelings. Everything that was happening to him and how he dealt with it was very human and I could understand him and feel grace.

For me, it's 100 out of 100,000 😍 Honestly, I'm super picky when it comes to watching dramas or dracins. If one episode bores me, I won't continue watching. But this dracin, from episode 1, didn't bore me at all. The scenery is stunning, the songs are great, and the supporting cast is nice, not like villains 😂. I got laughter, tears, and the dialogue hits hard every episode. The chemistry between the leads is natural, not forced. Their romance is subtle but impactful. They care for each other like they're home. My favorite parts are when they start dating (episodes 19-22, 26-28) and their VR game interactions, so funny how they go from tricking each other to protecting each other 😍. And the ending, though there's no wedding, still left a mark on me. Best dracin of 2026 😍💕

Really deserves the high rating! A MUST WATCH

Found this gem a bit late. I was anticipating that this was going to be a slow-burn romance with the typical sharing houses and office romance, but it was more than that and it was surprising for a drama in thia genre!

In sum, this drama is about second chances, finding true love and after failures and complications of life.

Story:
Two very different boy and girl meet under the weirdest circumstances. Life and love starts for them only to be crashed at some point, yet they mature and develop quite decently.

Acting:
It was my first time seeing CXX in a drama. I must say i'm impressed. He played an introvert who seemed cold and aloof quite well. His character development was also palpable. I dare say he is a heartthrob and did his part well. His chemistry with the FL is top pier imo.

It was my second drama witg LYX. Her acting in LLC was great and i think she is so warm and friendly that her characters always show that. her chemistry with CXX was so beautiful and real that we rarely get to see such things in dramas.

writing:
It wasn't without faults as there were some unnessary plots or loopholes but the character development was truly great, which is rare in Cdramas. This drama flowed like a river and the waves hit some stones along the way but in the end, it found its way.

Music:
I don't know where to begin but this drama has ONE of the most beautiful tracks i have ever heard in Cdramas. Basically Cdramas rarely care about music and bgm, but in this one, well they did!

Production:
Well this is not a fantasy drama so there wasn't CGI or whatever( except for the car scenes obviously) but it was shot beautifully. the scenes at the RongCheng VR club were also shot well.

Overall, A MUST watch. The romance is beautifull. the KISS SCENES are AMAZING!

Watch when you are free

Main actress : good performance. She not shy at all when kiss scene and body touch especially with so good looking guy.
Main actor : why he always choose actress with very long hair? Expected he acting bad guy in modern drama. Romance and love drama for him not outstanding anymore. He is really handsome.

Wang Guang Ming???

The series hasn’t ended yet, but I wanted to write a comment because something really bothered me.

The storyline of the Wang Guang Ming [Xiao Rou's husband] was unfair.
It was clear that they were living a true, heartfelt love story. Ending the relationship because of a simple misunderstanding and jumping straight to divorce felt very rushed and unjustified.

There is a contradiction, because the couple clearly love each other very much. Naturally, even after what the wife saw, she should know her husband’s character and know that he is not a womanizer. It would have been natural for her to forgive the misunderstanding.

This was the only really bad mistake in the series👎🏻.

Since there are only six episodes left, I hope the scenario will have them get back together, because their divorce storyline was a silly mistake in the script 😂

It was heartbreaking in episode 17 when she left him, because it was obvious that he loves her. He only hid the matter from her because he loves her and didn’t want to upset her over something trivial 🤍.
The end of his story was sad and unsatisfactory🥺.
[my rating is not final, because the series is not over yet]‼️

The best romance among I watched

The most I liked

Very healthy relationship I have ever seen
Sad part only make it more impactful
The way they kissed first time at VR game , both of them knew their feelings, but his trauma just needs him seperate from her, their gradually built unshakable trust ( they were both willingly solve it even by brilliant conversation at Vr game, they helped each other, FL even tried to stop and confront Pei when he disturb ML at game) show endurance more than enough to overcome this, they made it and it felt really great that there would not be any trust issue and only seek justice for framing of his father ( he hide it to protect her and she even forgave this showing how she trusted him whole heartedly about never harming her, that's why she was so smart to make him fight alongside with him ,gave chance to explain to her , make the kisses feel very deep , (27 kisses all have unique flavour)

Even Their jealous part only showed how very healthy of their romantic relationship were,
How cute she was , when she was teased by GHS and got jealous easily to go and check ML

The last two episodes were very satisfying ALONG WITH EASTER EGG CREDIT , unlike other drama with absurd ending , they even make these episode more enjoyable to watch, FL trying hard for her career while ML was abroad ,FL video calling about how she missed ML and he came immediately to congratulate her,

I liked FL since journey to you , and later love in cloud and now this , her choices were better and better, anticipating dancing with tide
