Recalling Hong Ye's words, "A mountain elf possessing medicinal knowledge who kept saving people is deemed an evil being... On the other hand, the leader of an orthodox sect who goes around claiming the lives of innocent people, quenching his bloodthirst, is highly respected by others... Such is life in the human realm..."
This scene revealed the ugly side of human nature, the corruption that can pervade society, and the blindness that people often exhibit to earthly desires. Wealth, pleasure, honour... The audacity and double standards of such an arrogant group of humans are striking. They believe humans can never become demons, but they've proved that they are their own 'demons' who are just wearing the skin of a human being...
(Our current societies are still facing the same problem worldwide, where certain selfish humans rule with unfairness, duplicity and greed...)
Episode 24: A brief encounter with the Treasure Swallower
This old demon is Xiao Yao's third momentary encounter after Huang Yin and Zi Xiu (Taotie) during her various travels to save Hong Ye and retrieve his primordial powers. The Treasure Swallower and our girl look like a doting grandpa and his precious granddaughter in this scene. The bond she created with this old demon was sincere and invaluable~
Every introduction and departure of several characters occupies a tiny space inside her heart, helping Xiao Yao to learn new things, all the while proving her to be lovable and that she possesses a pure heart. ᜊ( ˊᵕˋ )ᜊ
Xiao Yao was a mischievous girl when she was first introduced to us. However, we've witnessed our girl improve physically and mentally as she passes through trials one after another. Our sweet and lively Xiao Yao, please continue to brighten the weary souls of those around you (and us) with your charms~ (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ*.ﾟ

I agree~ That scene was very impactful, focusing on human greed as well as not to judge a book by its cover (i.e. the demons and spirits in this case). Bing Zhu's character development was tremendous here, and I loved it so much! X3
Many lessons learnt from this arc, and it was a pleasant surprise to see Chen Xin Hai, too~

That scene was phenomenal! The timing of the CGI for the magic flowing out of Xiao Yao, the background music and the moment of that kiss, everything is in sync! Added to the 360-degree turn.. omg, splendid! I was spellbound in that moment~ (^˵◕ω◕˵^)💖

I agree! I think viewers are so used to quick lip smacking eat each other's mouth from the short dramas that we forget the pure simple lip touching. The slow burn love that is engraved in each other's hearts that even the slightest physical touch is cherished. The hand holding, hugging, pecks on the cheek that leaves a lingering tingly feeling. HMH and SS use a lot of eye language, HY's eyes were always sad even when he smiled in the first segment before XY time travelled. It made sense because his lover didn't rmb him, he looks at her, talks to her and touches her yet she gives this clueless look, with no knoweldge of their past.

I watch historical dramas, not modern ones, for this reason. The romance is innocent. Moreover, I don't feel pity toward the actors for kissing and doing intimate scenes for the sake of being professional. If it happened, I would fast forward or skip the scenes.
Yep! And now, we know why Hong Ye falls in love too fast. The writers are so smart and careful in this trope and plot. Love it! And our pain for watching their separation and misunderstanding are paid in the fullest. They give us nonstop sweet romance between the leads since episode 19!
We'll enter the first phase of their lifetime in today's (January 6, 2026) episodes. I hope another misunderstanding will be solved wonderfully.
