Impatiently waiting for the next ep! I'm hooked!
Ghad, I'm dying to know what's nextttt! It was my first time watching an ongoing C-drama, and I can't wait for the rest!
I didn't even feel that I had just finished the first 8 eps 🥹 I wanted more!
I've seen the FL in the series called Under the Power, and that's one of the best series that I was also hooked on until the end. When I searched the actress, I was curious why she rarely had a lead role because I really like her. The acting, her projection, and how she handles the character with her personality—love it! So I'm really excited to see her as the main lead, and I'm not disappointed! She exceeds what I imagined, and thinking about it, she was almost the reason why I finished UTP without even realizing that I had finished it—and liked it!
On the other hand, I've seen the ML in the series called Back from the Brink. What made him remarkable to me was what I call his micro-emotions and how he could portray or express a lot of things through his acting. Honestly, I tried two times to finish that series (BFTB), but I don't know why I always discontinued it halfway. The ML wasn't the problem, I think the chemistry between the leads just wasn't for me.
BUT IN THIS SERIES, it feels like the leads are meant to work! Or maybe they are just both my bias, hehe. But yeah, I was really into the FL's personality and the ML's expressions that I think they work greatly together. So I'm looking forward to the two of them and waiting for the next eps.
I don't think there will be a major second lead syndrome here. I like the supporting lead and the way he was focused on the plot rather than anything else. I'm interested in his sword and his future endeavors because of his principles. And I'm curious whether he'll be corrupted or make his resolution stronger/better.
The story plot also makes me want more! This is the first xianxia that I've watched that really focuses on the magical world, and I always love the scenes in the Demon Realm. It also tackles lots of hypocrisy and borderline problems about the stereotypes of humans vs demons, and I like how they deliver that without giving too much angst. Like, you can enjoy the series, yet you could still appreciate the plot and dilemmas they bring to the table. And that only makes me want more of it!
Ghad, I don't regret that I watched it, but I'm impatient waiting for the next eps.
I'll edit this and hope for a nice ending!

Not bad ..Not spellbinding..
The initial 6-7 episodes, I was this🤏close to ghosting this drama. Why? Because it opened with the most overused xianxia starter pack ever. ML lying unconscious in his core for a century in the middle of nowhere, only to be awakened by the FL. This savior is conveniently a lookalike of his ex lover who betrayed him and killed him. Add the usual human vs demon feud with elf, fairy and immortals making wildcard entries, opportunists of both sides taking advantage of the situation to exploit the innocent ones. The storyline feels like a neatly stitched quilt made from leftover pieces of popular xianxia dramas, Literally everything felt like hitting a Deja vu.
Anyways Episode 9 onwards the plot starts taking shape.. it's not like you will escape the cliches but they will be less obvious at this point.
Now, let’s talk cast. HMH is my favorite, no debate. His acting, his voice, his screen presence, chef’s kiss. But compared to the emotional hurricane he was in Love in the Clouds, here he feels… restrained. Subtle is fine, but some expressions feel oddly flat. Especially those past-life romance scenes with Niag’an. I’ve seen this man look at a co-star like the world stops spinning, but here the gaze felt vacant, almost awkward. His character in the drama is also TOO direct, there is nothing much to do apart from reciting the dialogues with a straight face and shedding a tear or two every now and then... I’m still hopeful he’ll level up in later episodes, and I’ll happily eat my words if he does.
This is my first Tang Song Yun drama. I get the hype now. She’s good, very convincing, especially her youthful and childlike voice. Since this is my only exposure to her work, I won’t overanalyze. She’s doing her job well, and I’m content. Her character is charming , naughty , smart and willful just the right blend and she is doing a good justice to it.
The chemistry between the two is okay-ish, Not skipping-a-beat-type dynamic.
Ironically, the supporting cast and guest appearances stole more of my attention...Wang Duo, Chen Xing Hai, Wang Xi Wei and especially Zhou Li Ying, her character has not even been introduced properly and she is already overshadowing the FL.
Technically, the drama delivers. Fight scenes look more like casting-spells magical rather than mechanical. The CGI sets are gorgeous, especially the demon realm. Pink glowing grass, silvery skies, glittery blue waters, tiny living herbs with baby houses. Cute overload 🥰❤️ Styling and wardrobe though? Meh. Very safe, very recycled. I’ve seen this look before in LBFAD and Sword and Fairy. Nothing fresh.
And the BGM was good which is again similar to a very popular xianxia, IYKYK (hint : Xu kai is the lead)
So yeah, for now, I’m holding on for the cast and praying the plot finds its spine.
PS: I will edit this review if things improve.

Great acting with nice ost
I rarely watch xianxia but The Unclouded Soul totally pulled me in! The moment Hongye first appeared, I could feel his pain right through the screen. Hou Minghao's micro-expressions are absolutely next-level - he conveys so much without even saying much. And don't get me started on Xiao Yao and that adorable green fluffy creature... my heart can't take how cute they are! Last but not least, i love the ost, already stuck in my head!🥺✨"Was this review helpful to you?
Another masterpiece after Fangs of Fortune
I love the drama.... It is so interesting . If you are hesitating in starting the drama, you shouldn't. Go ahead and watch it. True to my expectations.Hong Ye-
Our ML is just woww...I have no words for expressing my feelings. Hou Ge really portrayed it in the best possible way.
Lord demon Hong Ye became my favourite character with ZYZ. How beautifully Hou Minghao (ML) can convey his characters' inner thoughts (cry, pain, smile, laugh everything) even without using a word, really appreciable. (Just through his eyes and expression) Truly a great actor. ✅
Xiao Yao- Naughty but smart FL...did a good job alongwith HMH.
I will write a full review after finishing the drama.

Such a beautiful story, I waited a whole year for this!
Hou Minghao... lemme just say.. I'm never ever disappointed in this man!!! He's so talented, his expressions makes you feel what he feels the second you notice a tear or a smile... he's a wonderful actor and great singer, I love his voice, I'm so glad I got to hear it in one of the eps today. He's so fine in every way!!! And I've always liked Tan Song Yun, she's really cute and funny in this and not annoying at all, she adapts so easy with the demons and understands them, she has a huge heart for every race... I love her and Neo's chemistry, it's so good. I'm so glad they work so well together! As I watched, I hated the humans, and in ep 5, we see that Bingzhu has a very sad story. I can see why he is the way he is but I still don't like his ways and I think humans are awful but there is also that creepy face demon, whatever his name, hmm. I wonder who is behind all the evil, maybe they haven't shown up yet or they have and we didn't think anything of it. But all 5 eps are top notch, I enjoyed every bit of them. The story, the chemistry, the actors, the OTS, I have NO ISSUE with anything. I love the demons, the cats split personality, the adorable little green fluffballs, (I want one), the costumes, and, oh, the VISUALS ... The CGI is so beautiful!!! I love it all. I love all the characters. This is very fun, it's hilarious, and it is going to be emotional, I'm sure we are in for a rollercoaster but I think it'll be a fun ride! I can't wait for the next eps. This is truly an amazing drama. Well done, guys!!

Can't wait for the new episodes!
It’s funny— I started 2025 watching Neo’s Fangs of Fortune, and it feels really fitting that I’m ending the year with another one of his series, The Unclouded Soul. I’m only 16 episodes in so far, and here’s what I’m loving:The cast, especially Seven and Neo as the leads. I’ve always admired Seven’s work and completely fell in love with her in Go Ahead. She consistently has great chemistry with her male leads, which is why I enjoy following her projects. I’m also not surprised to see Neo playing another Demon King—he fits these roles incredibly well. At this point, he might just be the king of playing Demon Kings.
One thing I really love about iQIYI dramas is their consistent CG style. The cinematography and color palette are absolutely beautiful.
The story hooks you right away—a flashback to an unforgettable love story between the leads, paired with a puzzling moment from the past that leaves you questioning what really happened and what was left unresolved. So far, I’m enjoying the pacing and where the story seems to be heading. Maybe it’s the cast, or maybe it’s how lighthearted the drama feels. After watching so many intense historical dramas filled with heavy politics and intricate details, this was a refreshing change of pace for me.
I also love how this drama reminds me of classic wuxia. It gives me vibes similar to Ashes of Love, Fangs of Fortune, Love Between Fairy and Devil, and Back from the Brink.
This is one series I cannot wait for the new release!! I hope this continues till the end! Currently this is a 8/10 for me!

Hooked
I started this series with trepidation, because I read a review somewhere it's not that great. But then started the series because I didn't have anything else to watch and also I like FL. Boy am I HOOKED! Hope the series keeps the excitement going and doesn't start stretching things unnecessarily like in many xianxia worlds based series. Was this review helpful to you?
