Watching this film on the last screening day of the Tokyo International Film Festival 2024, as the audience choice winner.

This film moved the majority of the audience to tears in the theater. I must say, it is incredibly inspiring, and I hope it reaches many people who face challenges in life, encouraging them to stay hopeful and keep fighting, even when life feels overwhelming.

Applause to the lead actor, Jackson Yee, for his extraordinary performance! His portrayal was nothing short of remarkable, and he truly brought the character to life!

Wow, Jackson Yee is amazing! He came up with the suitcase design for the movie, and he did the animation in the trailer. What a versatile artist! This film is so powerful. I had no idea that the numbers were so high – 6 million people with cerebral palsy and 85 million people with disabilities in China. It's incredible that this film is finally giving this important issue visibility.

I want everyone to watch this.

I think this is 2024 one of best movie that i have watched in 2025, it can be also character driven story then plot driven, because i don't think there isn't any plot, more of an emotional ride in my perspective, and also it is teen or early adult hood perspective so remember that, we shown through eyes of character.

I liked the grandma character, she was sweet and supportive of liu chunhe.
And please don't think the mom character as red flag character she was just stressed and frustrated she put all that on liu chunhe, that scene made me watch the movie.

It was a great movie and i really like it and connect to it on emotional level, specially this mom and child dynamic, maybe That’s why i like this movie. And the acting was top notch, the main character actor and actresses did a fantastic job.

A Showcase of Jackson Yee’s acting Ability

This is another film about the discrimination, hardship, dreams, and resilience of a young man with cerebral palsy. The theme of this movie is not new and I have so far watched two films and this being the third movie with this theme.

As my title described, this movie is a showcase of Jackson Yee’ s awesome acting skills, he has done a great job here. I am truly impressed by his devotion to the character and he sure has done his homework and put tremendous amount of effort to achieved the realism of his character. The grandma is another interesting character, strong and protective in her own ways. Without her constant care and support, I would not imagine the main lead will be able to develop his path.

There is nothing really spectacular I want to say about the story, accept it does gave the viewers a heartwarming feel. I do recommend that you watch it and derived your own conclusion if you like such theme, this is a good watch. As like many of such movies with disability theme, it narrated a growth, discovery and success with acceptance of one’s vulnerabilities and life.

I personally knew of a friend with this condition, it is truly a lifetime of struggle and if without a strong inner resilience and good family support, it is indeed a very difficult task for someone with this condition to work through his/her physical disability and gain success.

The other well narrated movies based on true story with this condition include the famous movie which I loved a lot, was done by Hollywood in 2014, “The Theory of Everything”, about life of Steven Hawking, a fantastic portrayal by Eddie Redmayne.
Then the Japanese film done in 2009, “Door to Door” by Ninomiya Kazunari, is also another fair adaptation.

Is this a good watch? The story is fairly progressive and well told, the characters are realistic and its ending is heartwarming to me. The main lead find his growth and success.

A Heartfelt Journey of Resilience and Triumph

Warning - this movie does have attempted suicide.

Big World is a profoundly moving film that showcases Jackson Yee’s phenomenal performance as Liu Chunhe, a young man with cerebral palsy (CP) determined to prove that his condition does not define his potential. Jackson Yee brings raw authenticity and emotional depth to Chunhe, a character who seeks equality and the same opportunities as others, whether it’s attending college, securing a job, or earning a driver’s license. Through his unyielding determination, Chunhe demonstrates that no obstacle is insurmountable with perseverance.
The film masterfully captures Chunhe’s inner struggles, particularly in a heart-wrenching scene where he questions why he was born with CP, a condition that remains a medical enigma.
Equally compelling is Chunhe’s yearning for love. He knows it won’t be easy, but his understanding of the challenges doesn’t lessen his hope.
A pivotal moment comes during Chunhe’s confrontation with his mother, whose misguided attempts to shield him by isolating him and fixating on his disability only deepen his sense of being a burden. The raw emotion in Jackson Yee’s delivery when Chunhe admits to feeling like “dead weight” to his family is unforgettable, reflecting the pain of overhearing childhood conversations and enduring societal stares.
While Chunhe’s mother mishandles her protective instincts, the film doesn’t shy away from addressing these flaws. Her eventual explanation and apology toward the end offer a satisfying resolution, highlighting the complexity of familial love.
The conclusion, with Chunhe and his grandmother (his biggest supporter throughout the film) embracing a fresh start is both uplifting and authentic, tying the narrative together with hope.
Big World delivers a powerful message about resilience, personal growth, and the pursuit of equality. It’s a heartwarming, inspiring story that navigates life’s challenges with grace, leaving the audience moved and motivated.

The bravery.

You know everybody in this world think that they are the miserable person themselves and it's true but considering liu Chenhe's life doesn't make others life that much miserable.
We have to learn to be brave enough to be ourselves like him.
The story, the characters are enough to teach an important lesson in life.

The most basic aspects of disabled people you should know already

This film shows you how a young man with cerebral palsy faces difficulty and discrimination, how he can be in despair because of it, and yet how he can have hope and dignity. That's like the most basic story you can write about disabled people. There aren't enough representations of people with cerebral palsy on media so this could still be meaningful to some people, but I didn't expect a film like this in the competition category at an international film festival. If they cast Jackson Yee because they prioritized getting more recognition for the cause I get it, and he seemed to have put in a lot of work for this role. But you must know it's not a competition material when a film like 37 seconds already exists. Watching an able-bodied actor play a person with cerebral palsy for two hours, including a dream sequence where he acts "normal" with a pretty girl he met earlier so conveniently, was not a pleasant experience for me.
