Simple, Soothing and Sweet

This was such a good watch - simple, soothing, and sweet. At its core, this is a coming-of-age story about a girl who slowly learns to find her own voice and the courage to step beyond the boundaries of her family. One of the most rewarding parts of the journey is watching her finally stand up for herself—speaking honestly to her domineering mother, who in turn begins to recognize herself in her daughter. That emotional shift felt quiet but powerful.

Her first love unfolds with the same gentle sincerity. Their relationship is a pleasure to watch because it feels so real—full of hesitation, awkwardness, and that tentative vulnerability that comes with young love. Both leads are introverts who gradually find their way into each other’s worlds, and despite a few misunderstandings, they move toward each other slowly but surely. What stood out most was how surprisingly mature they are in handling their relationship, even at such a young age.

The acting is fine, especially considering most of the cast are newcomers. Some viewers might recognize the male lead from Shine on Me and the female lead from The Best Thing. It’s nice to see them step into leading roles—they both show a lot of promise and potential.

Overall, this is a non-toxic, enchanting short drama that I would not only recommend but happily rewatch.

A Beautiful, Genuine Series with Outstanding New Talent

This series is excellent and very engaging. It portrays situations that could genuinely happen in real life. There are many new, young actors, and their performances are outstanding. The visuals are beautiful. I would like to commend the creators, producers, and cast.

I don’t usually enjoy overly unrealistic series, but watching a non-toxic show that I can revisit multiple times brings me real happiness. I don’t need famous actors or artificially inflated view counts

The Most Non-Toxic Couple in the C-Drama World

Welcome back again, guys. So, straight after ending “The Hidden Heir Ye Chen”, I decided to take “Glaze of Love” on a whim and basically had my schedules crashing with “Love beyond the Grave” (one of my long-awaited dramas). As usual, I don’t expect much from a simple short drama, but the synopsis does pique my interest. I binge-watched it in one fell swoop, spending the amount of time as much as 3 days, before finally recovering to prepare my mental well-being (for the sake of April Fool’s Day).

The plot is revolved around a pair of socially awkward couple, Zhao Xiaocen and Xu Xiao. Xiaocen herself is timid and inept in social skills, only dares to express her feelings through arts and chooses the path of cultural relics restoration which she feels the most suitable with. Xiaocen is also a fragile girl and always gets sick due to lack of proper rest and healthy diets, that her mother has to constantly make an over-the-top fuss about her. Meanwhile, Xu Xiao has his own issues as well – his family was once purged by a huge debt plus his father sold counterfeit antiques to other people and his mother loses faith in him, deciding to remarry with other man. He also finds solace in cultural relics restoration and often works part-time in an antique shop, occasionally becoming an antique appraiser, a talent endowed to him since his childhood. Their relationship is quite pleasant without any lingering misunderstandings, stupid breakups, and tons of cheesy tropes usually found in other dramas.

I really need to commend the acting of the two leads, Lai Weiming and Zhou Yiru. Prior to “Glaze of Love”, I only watched Lai Weiming once in “Fangs of Fortune” as Pei Siheng, and he’s the reason why I didn’t fast-forward his scenes back then. In this drama, he embodies Xu Xiao seamlessly and projects every kind of emotion in an expressive way. As for Zhou Yiru, I must say that her character’s personality is a perfect copycat to mine as I often feel the way Xiaocen does and kudos to her for making Xiaocen stand out from the cast (aside from her co-star). Second couple is unnecessary and we don’t even get their backstories, flashbacks, or whatsoever – which is absolutely frustrating. The other friends are so-so, but they’re quite nice in a way. Shout out to Xiaocen’s fussy dear mommy because I really need to suppress the urge of shutting her tongue up for babbling nonstop (she resembles my own mother too).

OST is commendable, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere, even on Shazam. If anyone finds it, you can share it in the comment section of my review.

Overall, an absolutely non-toxic and fluffy light-hearted watch to pass your time. It may not be as outstanding as those high-budget idol dramas, but it still deserves a laudable praise from global and mainland audiences. I guess I’m going to end the review here (‘cause there’s not much to say), good luck and happy watching!!!

A calm, unhurried, and easy-to-watch drama. The mml is very timid, and the mfl is modest but has a strong inner core. Despite the fact that they are both introverted and have trouble socializing, they were able to find each other and become each other's support and future.
The growth of the mfl is tremendous! At the beginning, you can feel her awkwardness and embarrassment, but by the end, she has managed to break free from this cage, stats to know what she wants, sets boundaries with her mother, and confesses her feelings to a boy first . These steps were difficult for her, but she was able to overcome herself.
However, I didn’t notice any growth in the mml. He occasionally displayed courage, but most of the time, he was sullen and timid.
The drama is simple and fast-paced. Towards the end, it became a bit boring. For me, there weren’t enough main couple .

A soft and simple kind of love

It was just a cute, easy watch. It doesn’t try to be overly dramatic or complex, and that’s exactly what makes it enjoyable. The story flows gently, with a light atmosphere and soft romantic moments that make it comforting rather than intense. I liked how everything felt simple and calm, almost like a little break from heavier dramas. It may not leave a strong impact or go very deep emotionally, but it’s the kind of show you can watch with a smile and just enjoy for what it is.

A fragile bond restored in a nice story

Glaze of Love is a quiet, meditative drama that trades high-octane conflict for the slow, meticulous process of emotional repair over 20 episodes at approximately 30 minutes each. While it occasionally moves at a very slow pace, the series succeeds because of the undeniable spark between its leads, making it a healing watch that prioritises character growth over flashy plot twists.
The standout of the show for me is undoubtedly the ML. I recognise him as the 2ML from Shine On Me, where he suffered from what I would say, that script doing him dirty. He’s got main character energy and Glaze of Love finally gives him the lead spotlight he’s clearly been ready for. I think I’m familiar with the FL as she has a very familiar face—the kind of actress I know I’ve seen in a major production even if the specific title is hard to pin down. She plays her role with a delicate vulnerability and the chemistry between the two is the show's engine. It’s a soft and simple romance that feels built piece by piece, much like the ancient ceramics they work to preserve.
The most refreshing aspect of the writing comes at the halfway point of the final episode. After travelling to Malaysia to surprise him, the FL slips into the Noble Sacrifice idiocy trope, suggesting they endure a 2 year long separation while he stays to study abroad. In a move that saves the finale, the ML shuts it down immediately. His refusal to leave her again subverts the lazy time skip cliché that ruins so many C-dramas, choosing active, immediate connection instead.
The drama grounds its stakes in realistic parental pressure. The ML's overbearing mother, whose control was a trauma response to his scumbagish father, finally reconciles with him after acknowledging his path isn't a repeat of the past.
On the FL's side, her own suffocating mother reaches an emotional peak at the airport. In a poignant scene, as the mother prepares to return to her hometown, the two finally bridge the gap with a tearful hug. This reconciliation acts as the FL’s permission to finally step into her own life.
Finally, this show doesn't overstay its welcome. By having the ML call out the "Noble Sacrifice" trope in Malaysia and focusing on the leads' chemistry, it earns a solid score. It’s a must-watch for those who appreciate nuanced family dynamics and a lead actor finally getting his due.
