A Good Storytelling With Well Crafted Characters!!
If you are familiar with Guo Jing Ming’s directorial style, then you must know that each of his narratives are delicately curated!!The stunning costumes, settings designed exquisitely to match the tone of the storytelling and ensemble casting that blow your minds- all these truly encompass every show or movie that he directs. Guo Jing Ming is one of those directors who has no qualms projecting a grandeur, so much so, that other shows pale in comparison. “Veils of Shadows” follows the same formulaic depiction of mystical characters, their struggles and romance. Guo Jing Ming’s stories aren’t always focused on depicting love stories, they are more centered towards portraying characters that are intuitively intriguing and yet compellingly diffident. Each character has a story to tell, their past and present colliding into a perfect conjecture. However, this was my first time watching a main lead portray two different variants, a protagonist and an antagonist. It was shocking, sublime yet interesting beyond words. Words fail to express my delight while savoring this potboiler cooked with delicacy and moderation.

Awal nonton tuh ya kayak menjanjikan gitu ceritanya. Tapi, pas udah pertengahan episode kenapa ceritanya amburadul? katanya equal billing, tapi banyak screentime yg timpang. Menurutku, ini drama kayak memaksakan beberapa karakter harus hidup dan HE. Gapapa kok kalo SE, asal MASUK AKAL aja gitu loh. Agak kesal karena beberapa plotnya dibuat maksa dan lama2 gak masuk akal wkwk. Ini drama kutamatin karena chemistry antara zsx & cdl, jjy & tjr tuh bagus2. Yearner Girlfriend at it's peak
(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) SIGNIFICANT THINGS I WANT TO POINT OUT:There are only 3 things that truly caught my interest: the visuals, the romance between Ling and Wuyi, and the plot twist in the last 9 episodes because that was peak perfection. GJM is a director who makes a series look like a moving photoshoot. I especially love his expertise in creating such exciting and dynamic fight choreography!
The romance between Ling and Wuyi is the main reason I finished the whole series. I rarely see a relationship with this kind of complexity. There’s drama everywhere, but it actually makes so much sense. The writer really understood the assignment—creating reasonable conflict while maintaining a healthy relationship at the same time. It seems like other writers think the only way to create drama in a healthy relationship is through miscommunication and misunderstandings. But this drama didn't give off that vibe, which felt so refreshing and nice, IMO.
ಠ_ʖಠ THINGS I DISLIKED:
♪ When GJM transitions from a very intense, interesting scene straight into a slow, dragging conversation — it totally breaks the immersion! Who even thought this was a good idea?
♪ This drama definitely has its fair share of boring scenes... unfortunately. The first arc (Xiaowei) was really boring in my opinion. Thankfully, because of the stunning visuals and the cute moments between Ling and Wuyi, I was able to pretend it wasn't.
♪ Chen Duling's acting here is so weird? I mean, I guess I only really noticed it here, but it honestly pissed me off.
♪ Ju Jingyi's acting is so-so; sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. I love it when she cries because she really lets go of her expressions, but I really dislike it when they just move their mouths while acting instead of using their whole face/emotions.
♪ Yan'an... needs to broaden his expressions too. THESE ACTORS NEED TO JUST LET GO AND SHOW MORE EMOTION!
♪ ♪ About the power scaling of the plot... Mo Yuntan was so OP in the earlier episodes, almost defeating Lu and Wu, but he can't defeat a single fox at the end? Make it make sense!
♪ Not really interested in WuWu's relationship, it's so basic. They should have just been the second couple, not main characters, because it's obvious they were just accessories to the plot.
( ◜‿◝ )♡ INSIGNIFICANT THINGS:
♪ Compared to FOF, the OST of VOS is louder. Thankfully, GJM used less background music whenever characters speak compared to FOF. I don't really care that much, but I know others do so I pointed it out. (I love Ju Jingyi's voice though!)
♪ It wouldn't be GJM's work if there wasn't a hint of queerness. Duh. We got two instances here.
♪ It also wouldn't be GJM's work if it only focused on romantic bonds. GJM doesn't roll that way—sisterly bonds, brotherhood, and friendship will always be present.

Amazing visuals, great fight scenes, and a dramatic story with confusing but interesting twists.
Veil of Shadows is a drama that you’ll definitely remember when talking about visuals and special effects because WOW sometimes is like we’re watching a MV. Everyone is beautiful, all scenes are beautiful, all characters farm aura…it’s insane haha It’s definitely what makes this drama different from others and definitely one of the best points. I think it’s a trademark of the director.About the plot, at first, I found just interesting, nothing wow, but after 5 episodes things improved and it got to the point where I was completely hooked. The plot is confusing as hell but somehow things connected and I became even more interested. The characters are also really distinct from each other and each one of them are interesting! However, I do think the director exaggerated a little and the plot twists and new arcs became a little too much, especially in the ending. I feel like he wanted to surprise us even more and idk it became too much for me.
The performances of the main actors were good! Jingyi surprised me positively here; I think she proved herself more as an actress. I already knew Duling was a good actress so she delivered exactly what I expected from her. Joseph was spot-on in the role too. I didn't know Jia Rui but he charmed me. He has a very natural acting style, and his emotional scenes were very natural. Yan An was the weakest in terms of acting but he had some very beautiful scenes and a interesting character so I turn a blind eye. Tbh, he kind suited the demon butterfly role. The chemistry between the couples was also good and I liked how the two couples conveyed different vibes. My favorite one was Jiling and Wuyi because their story was just BEAUTIFUL but I also loved Wang Yan and Shi Guang.
About the screentime thing: didn’t bothered me that much because I liked all characters and all actors here deserved the attention they got, however, I understand the complaints of some fans because the director was indeed unfair. At some point it felt like Duling was a secondary character.
The ending surprised me because if someone had told me in the beginning that it would be HE I would have doubted lol Ji Ling and Wuyi’s ending was perfect for them! Ji Ling really is the last romantic alive because he just prefer to live in another parallel world than live in a world where Wu Yi doesn’t exist. It’s a little sad that the sisterly bond was broken tho as Wuyi doesn't exist in their world. Will Lijie remember in the future? His character ended with a feeling of obsession once again, a feeling that he needs to find someone, so maybe he will. Who knows.
In general I really enjoyed watching this drama! It wasn’t perfect for me but it was really engaging and it gave me one of the best couples of the year. Hope to see the actors in another work together, without this director of course.

This drama is totally addicting! 😍 The plot is complex, full of intrigue, and keeps you intrigued. The action is cool, and the visuals are gorgeous, especially Ju Jingyi.The story of Lu Wuyi disguised as a nobleman to find a great demon is so exciting. There are so many twists and secrets that keep me watching. The cinematography is also stunning, and the colors make this drama even more magical.
Overall, it's worth watching! Recommended for those who like fantasy dramas.✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨💥💯💯💯

Véu das Sombras tem uma premissa muito interessante, com um elenco lindo e talentoso. As músicas combinam bem com os personagens e narrativa, aumentam com sucesso o tom emocional. As paisagens e figurinos também são lindos, o que só aumenta o prazer visual do drama. A única coisa que posso reclamar é que a história pode ser difícil de seguir, com muitos plots e detalhes, muitas vezes não completamente explicados, deixando para a interpretação do público, o que torna confuso. episode terakhir yang penuh emosi, menutup perjalanan yang epik antara manusia, naga, dan kekuatan hitam.saya pikir episode terakhir bakalan berakhir tragis mengingat sutradara dari drama ini adalah Edward Guo (GJM). tapi siapa sangka justru episode terakhir benar-benar mengejutkan penonton dan ini suatu momen yang langka bagi sutradara Edward Guo (GJM) yang notabene spesialis akhir cerita yang tragis, membalikkan keadaan menjadi akhir yang begitu manis (happy end).
meskipun berakhir memuaskan. mengingat episode nya yang terlalu sedikit, mengakibatkan beberapa plot romansa terasa terburu-buru.
