*I will keep updating this review as I continue watching the drama

📌 Story

The first episode did a great job of hooking me in. Right from the start, I was intrigued by why Lin Wan Xing looked so melancholic while standing on top of a building and what made someone with such impressive credentials choose to live a laid-back or as she calls it, a "slacker" life.

Wang Fa is just as intriguing. He has wounds that still haven't fully healed yet and is determined to uncover the truth behind the death of the football kid he considered family.

Then there are the football boys. There are no minor characters in this drama, each of them has a story to tell and every one of those stories is touching and heartbreaking in its own way. Their individual arcs add so much depth and emotion to the overall narrative.

One thing I really admire about this drama is how they flesh out the characters. You can tell the writers poured their hearts into creating them. Every character feels like a real person with their own struggles, dreams and growth. It's easy to connect with their experiences and become emotionally invested in their story.

For some viewers, the pacing might feel slow. But to me, it's simply a well-thought-out drama that takes its time to tell its story. It isn't trying to impress with big twists or cliffhangers. Instead, it quietly touches your heart and that's what makes it so special.

📌 Acting / Cast

The main leads, Yu Shuxin (Esther Yu) and Chen Jingke, did an amazing job bringing their characters to life.

Esther is often typecast in cute and bubbly roles but this drama shows a completely different side of her. As Lin Wan Xing, she's intelligent, composed, and level-headed. She's like a calm water with barely a ripple on the surface. At first, she seems detached from everything around her but as she grows closer to the team, she realizes she can no longer stand by and watch. She portrayed Lin Wan Xing's growth beautifully and her crying scenes are moving, I couldn't help but cry with her. This is one of Esther's best performances and made me see her in a whole new light.

Chen Jingke was a pleasant surprise. This is the first drama I've seen him in, so I went in with no expectations but he completely won me over. He has a very natural acting style and from his physique to his demeanor, he really feels like a football coach. And his eyes, they are so expressive. I can't compare this performance to his previous works since this is my first time watching him but based on this drama alone, I think he's a hidden gem. In my opinion, he's one of the strongest actors among the 95 generation.

The supporting cast deserves just as much praise. The football boys don't feel like background characters, they each have distinct personalities and meaningful character arcs. They acted so well, I couldn't help but get emotionally invested to their characters.

Overall, kudos to the casting director for doing an excellent job casting them. Every actor fits their role so naturally that it's hard to imagine anyone else playing these characters.

📌 Music

The OST perfectly complements the drama. The opening theme is energetic and fits the sports genre so well. I especially love the song《练习》(Practice) by 打扰一下乐团 (Excuse Me Band). I'm reminded of the team's happy moments on the field and the bond that they shared along the way.

The english songs are also good. It adds so much feelings and emotion to the scenes. One thing I really appreciate is that the drama isn't stingy with its soundtrack. Every song is used at the right moment, making each scene even more impactful.

📌 Rewatch value

Personally, the rewatch value of this drama is very high. I'm not the most patient person and I have a short attention span (blaming tiktok for this), but this drama made me want to rewatch every episode, not just to catch the details I might have missed but also to connect with the story deeper while writing my reviews. Actually I'm rewatching an episode as I write this.

This is the kind of drama that doesn't lose its charm no matter how many times you watch it. Each episode makes you feel the same emotions you felt the first time you've seen it. Every rewatch helps you appreciate the characters even more.

Overall, this drama feels human. The characters and emotions feel so real that it's inevitable to see yourself in them. This drama is worth coming back to.

Not typical romance drama

This drama's storyline is great and engaging to follow. It's the perfect blend of romance, refreshing comedy, and touching emotional moments. The narrative centers on rebuilding a nearly hopeless, underperforming high school soccer team, delivering a highly satisfying counter-attack and coming-of-age experience. Esther Yu shines as Lin Wanxing, a psychology PhD student, while Chen Jingke plays Wang Fa, a mysterious former British football coach. Their banter, show their good chemistry.

its like a breath of fresh air..you can happily watch... all are shining in their specific roles

I have watched 8 episodes till now
pacing is great
Esther as teacher is really fresh and beautiful to watch
jinke as the coach and also the one who is suspecting the teacher also is perfect
all the students are really cool, cute and wonderful
looking forward to the coming episodes
give it a try , you will not be disappointed.

*"Without a doubt, Episode 8 cements itself as the absolute best episode of the series so far. It delivers a masterclass in balancing breathtaking romance, laugh-out-loud comedy, and deep narrative substance. Visual storytelling peaks during the mesmerizing fireflies scene, which is so beautifully shot it leaves you breathless. The intimacy between the leads deepens in a profoundly tender sequence where she helps him fall asleep using aromatherapy—a moment that feels incredibly cozy and genuinely good. The comedy in this episode is absolute gold; their iconic bickering remains to die for, especially during a hilarious subplot involving them learning English. Yet, beneath the laughter, the emotional maturity of the drama shines brightly. The little dog scene highlights a very unique narrative dynamic: despite both characters harboring so many personal secrets, they remain remarkably open, transparent, and raw with their immediate thoughts around each other. Concluding with the mentors passionately standing up for their student, Episode 8 delivers an awesome, emotionally fulfilling triumph that elevates the entire show."*

Beautiful character writing

There are many good dramas airing right now, but this one has slowly whisked away my heart with its simplicity and consistency. I found myself looking forward to the episodes for this one more than the others without realizing it until now.
It is calming and endearing, ml, fl and students have a respectful camaraderie. The story is not new but is heart touching. Both ML and FL are mature and live life with a balanced kind of seriousness and lightness as adults we all aspire towards with age.
I commend the writers for allowing viewers to witness such types of characters as well.

A Story That Knows Exactly What It Wants to Tell

What impressed me most isn’t the romance, it’s how naturally the story flows.

The plot doesn’t rely on unnecessary misunderstandings or exaggerated drama. Every character feels like they belong in the story, and the pacing gives each scene enough room to breathe. It’s a surprisingly well-balanced drama.

The trailer fooled me

I honestly thought this would be another cliché school romance because of the trailer. I almost skipped it. 😭

Turns out the trailer didn’t show the best parts at all. The pacing is much better than I expected, and the characters have way more personality. I ended up watching 8 episodes in one sitting.

Cant wait for the next episode

Absolutely wonderful chemistry between ML and FL, especially when the ML looks at the FL, full of admiration. The boys (students) are fun to watch and their own stories or lives get me hooked up.

As for the story, I don't get bored. Each episode is eventful. There are romantic scenes between the main actors each episode and they always made me giggle.

Definitely worth recommending.
