Samut est un jeune étudiant transféré dans une nouvelle école suite à une altercation violente dans sa précédente école. La vidéo du combat tournant déjà dans son nouvel établissement, il est rejeté par ses nouveaux camarades. Seul Dom, une brute de l'école, s'approche de lui pour le provoquer, mais il se retrouve stoppé par l'intervention de Om, une autre élève. Leur dispute va alors faire tomber un jeu de société d'une armoire. Cet incident va les transporter avec trois autres camarades Kaen, Pie et Mark, dans un autre monde. S'ils veulent s'en sortir vivant, il vont devoir suivre les règles du jeu. Mais entre amitié, mensonge et trahison, tous les coups sont permis, pour atteindre un seul et unique but : survivre. The concept of the mystical dice and survival game is original and intriguing. The plot keeps you engaged, but the pacing can be slow at times, and some episodes lack tension. I wished for more “wow” moments and higher stakes, like in Squid Game or Alice in Borderland. The open ending leaves room for an exciting sequel.The cast is convincing, each actor giving their character a unique personality. These shows don't get second seasons. Stop setting up for second seasons.
This is an interesting concept that, once again, fails in an attempt to set up a twist reveal for a second season that will never come.Midnight Museum, Home School, Lead Day, and now The Dark Dice. These all were interesting shows that stumbled at the finish line by introducing a plot hook cliffhanger for a continuation, when, instead, they just need to focus on telling a complete, compelling story.
In setting up for the future, this fails to satisfy the present. No character gets a compete arc. No character changes. Don remains Don, set on winning for money. Pie remains Pie, only in the story because of Mark. I hoped for a deeper examination of Samut's desire for praise and acceptance, but I only played myself in wanting a complex character. I hoped for closure to his friendship with Atom and instead got the opening possibility of a romance with Aom. But GMM pink promises all that will be addressed in a second season, I guess.
