Enemies, Torture, and Unexpected Couple Goals
I hadn’t planned to watch Fated Hearts ... truly, I hadn’t. But somewhere between pressing play “just for one episode” and watching the sun rise, I realized I’d been completely ambushed. This drama doesn’t just hook you; it drags you into its world, ties you up with emotional rope, and dares you to look away. It’s the ultimate enemies-to-lovers done right, slow, tense, and believable. Fu Yi Xiao (Li Qin) and Feng Sui Ge (Chen Zhe Yuan) start out with nothing but hatred, blood, and war between them. She literally shoots him off a horse. He tortures her. Yet somehow, through survival, betrayal, and the chaos of two warring kingdoms, they become each other’s only safe place. Their chemistry burns through the screen, fiery, bruised, and beautifully mutual. No helpless damsel here, no overprotective hero either. They fight side by side, respect each other’s strength, and actually grow as people instead of just lovers.
The writing deserves a standing ovation for keeping them equals. Fu Yi Xiao never loses her sharpness or identity for romance’s sake. Feng Sui Ge learns that compassion can be stronger than revenge. Together they’re the storm and the calm that follows ... a power couple who bleed and heal in sync.
Their chemistry? Electric. Their relationship? Balanced. Both characters remain fiercely themselves capable, intelligent, and loyal without being overshadowed or rewritten by romance. It’s refreshing to watch two equals fall in love and fight side by side rather than one constantly saving the other. Their love not just believable, but inevitable.
Visually, the drama is stunning. Every frame looks like a painting, the costumes are majestic, and the lighting shifts with the tone of each scene. From the crimson glow of battlefields to the quiet intimacy of candlelit rooms, every frame feels intentional. The music swells perfectly sometimes too loudly, but still beautifully timed. The supporting cast is strong, though the side arcs occasionally overstay their welcome. And yes, that face filter could’ve been dialed down a notch, at one point, Chen Zhe Yuan looked like he was made of butter about to melt under the studio lights. Yes, there are a few clichés sprinkled in the amnesia, the slow-motion reveals, the overdone face filters, this drama still stands out.
What really sets Fated Hearts apart for me is how it handles its villains and victories. Instead of saving all revenge and redemption for the finale, the drama lets you enjoy every small triumph along the way. The antagonists fall one by one, each defeat deeply earned. The setbacks hit hard, but the way Fu Yi Xiao and Feng Sui Ge recover, rebuild, and vindicate themselves is deeply satisfying. It gives the story weight and rhythm, showing that justice isn’t always one grand moment ...sometimes it’s a slow burn of perseverance.
Still, when this show hits, it hits. Even with some familiar tropes, Fated Hearts stands tall as one of the best dramas of 2025. The emotional payoff, the moral grayness, and the sheer intensity of their bond make Fated Hearts unforgettable. The finale could’ve exploded bigger and giving the most clueless princess political power was an odd choice but even with that, this remains one of the best historical romances of 2025. I love that it gives its characters closure, not perfection, but peace.
A war of love and loyalty, an arrow that finds its mark, and two hearts too stubborn to surrender. Fated Hearts isn’t perfect, but it’s powerful , a nine out of ten kind of obsession that you’ll happily lose sleep over. A few clichés, yes, but it’s still fantastic and unforgettable.

When the second half falls off a cliff...
This drama came out of the gate with bang! A red clad female general who is a master archer takes down a prince who is referred to as the Killer God or some version of it? Sign me up!The sheer amount of razor sharp tension between Fu Yixiao and Feng Suige in the first half of the drama was so good! I was appalled at the violence and brutality they doled out to each other, but somehow since they were equally psychotic I could close one eye and live with it.
What I had trouble with was the return of one Su Rong Qing (from The Princess Royal) who was now haunting my screen as Xia Jiangshi, yet another pathetic villain role. Granted, I can't stand the villain roles this actor takes on because he just does not have a presence on screen and looks like a child play acting as a baddie. So here, the ballad of Su Rong Qing continues...(shout out to the reviewer who reviewed The Princess Royal and said it should have been called The Ballad of Su Rong Qing instead. That has stuck with me until now!)
The first half of the drama was fantastic - our leads work together to piece Yixiao's memory together and find out who is the traitor in Suige's kingdom. Their interactions were so honest and raw; clearly both of them had so much baggage and trauma and somehow together they healed. It was all very bloody and sweet. The betrayal by Yixiao's closest allies was heartbreaking and we see that in a way her memory loss allowed her to finally see things for what they are and to really find and connect with the people she is meant to be with. Suige's trauma flowed through his veins and I especially loved the way he challenged his father and did not care that he was challenging the emperor. I have waited a long time for a drama where the prince doesn't cower and live in fear of his father. It was a nice change!
The palace intrigue on both Susha and Jinxiu sides was so boring though. It was predictable and a real snooze. Susha politics made my eyes cross from boredom and Jinxiu's internal drama made me fall asleep more than once.
The one scene I truly enjoyed was the confrontation Feng Suige had with his father where he sees that the emperor is a depraved power fiend who only wanted his Killer God son to become just like him. When Suige sees his father as a monster and understands how his mother was murdered, it was so tragic yet moving to watch him refuse to become what his father wanted him to be. A huge part of that was Yixiao who had become his ally in every way and the way she stood up for him and protected him was phenomenal. She was truly the MVP of this drama.
By this point Suige's revenge is done and it's only episode 25/26. I'm then thinking to myself what on earth is left that this drama needed 38 episodes? Oh boy.
So off a cliff it went.
I was still on board when Suige gets ambushed and stabbed by the Murong father and son duo. I was horrified, but knew he wasn't going to die as it just didn't strike me as that sort of drama. Plus it wasn't even episode 30 yet...
Then he's buried while barely alive, dug up, taken to some exclusive alliance where everyone gets saved no matter what, becomes blind, becomes un-blind, loses his memory specifically of the love of his life, then un-loses his memory of her by stabbing her and then gets caught up in the internal betrayal of this alliance because the people there were sick and tired of not being able to leave. Why oh why did we need 38 episodes just to go through all this?
The final battle was always going to be Yixiao's revenge which coincided with Suige's revenge 2.0 against Xia Jingshi. I thought that Yixiao would finally confront him about the death camps and what he did to her and then take his head off. Yet, it is Suige who delivers the final blow with Yixiao assisting?? This should have been written better considering Xia Jingshi had wronged her way more than Suige defending what was done to Xiyang.
Lastly. Xiyang. Lord this girl was a pain. I knew she would end up being miserable, but she just continued to circle the drain of misery and not amounting to anything. If you marry someone you love but he does not love you, especially because he has made it clear that he loves someone else, how exactly were you planning to win that fight? She gets mad at Xia Jingshi and throws a hissy fit that he can't just give into her and their marriage. Girl....Also Xia Jingshi is an ass and you really should have known better.
The mess that comes after that was beyond ridiculous and really could have been written better. Also, why are rival kingdoms always written as twisted? Like why did Xia Jingyan have to have kinks and exhibit depravity? Also why do they always have to be styled with all the braids and beads? It makes it seem as if Susha is the "right" kingdom and Jinxiu is not. What's up with that?
Then for Suige to place her in the reigning position of Susha - I would be alright with this if we could remember the girl being capable of doing anything except being childish! When did she suddenly become wise and capable??
All in all, Fated Hearts was fabulous until it wasn't. I would rewatch the first half and pretend that the second half was written better.

enemies to lovers done right <3
In my opinion this drama is one of the few ones that really nails the enemies-to-lovers trope. While most of those storylines start out with the main characters hating each other, there is also the element of physical attraction pretty early on, which I really dislike. This makes it so easy to turn hate into love but it feels flat and forced at the same time. However, I do think this show executes this flawlessly. Because at first, there is just fear and plain hate between Feng Suige and Fu Yixiao, then there is reluctant collaboration, sprinkled with some enmity before they slowly adapt this fierce protectiveness towards each other. This very naturally develops into love and care and as soon as they realize it, it’s a done deal and it’s loud. Even in the quiet, emotional scenes, they support each other and they trust each other deeply. In this drama you get equal sacrifices from ML for the FL AND vice versa. it’s a power couple navigating through challenges full of betrayal, grief, suffering, amnesia and war. AND the best thing: they communicate. No misunderstandings. No unnecessary couple drama. Just them, some amnesia and “ I got yo back” as their couple motto.
Li Qin, the queen of generals. LITERALLY , THE BEST embodiment of a female general. She delivers a powerful performance and convincingly portrayed the firm, determined, strong female general who loves deeply, loyally and with so much understanding. Her costumes and fighting scenes are STUNNING. Man, she must have prepared so much for this role. Additionally, she makes a very beautiful couple with Chen Zheyuan. I think her mature look and sharp features really gives Fu Yixiao credibility as a seasoned general. But I also love how soft she can be with her lover and how vulnerable she was the first story arc. She has gone through hell and still preserved the goodness in her. Loved how the series gives her a fair portion of time dealing with PTSD. It shows realistically that even the strongest characters are human and it shows how much perseverance Fu Yixiao has. Her characteristics really live up to the meaning of her name.
Chen Zheyuan. Man this dude. His eyeliner, his hair, his costume. on point. His best styling so far. He also really shone in this drama because man, this guy can act with his eyes. I felt every emotion in his gaze and tremble, the way his jaw works and how his chest heaves. He pulled off being a cold & ruthless general, a smug prince, a mature and loving big brother, a supportive and vulnerable lover AND underneath all, just someone who has also gone through hell. Feng Suige ftw.
Also his eyeliner does things with me. I would like to appreciate how physically fit he had to be for this role because Chen Zhenyuan just jumped on top of his horse one handed. It looked smooth and very at ease and honestly ALL of his fight scenes just seemed to be that way. That’s how well he did them.
I watched him in Hidden Love and compared to his character there, Feng Suige is a much more complex and layered character. A walking red flag and very morally grey but even though I still had the image of green flag Duan Jiaxu in my head, he really managed to strip himself completely of that role. I am so glad he isn’t getting typecasted.
Generally, I really loved their mature relationship and how fast paced the storyline is. Sa Dingding’s OST has been playing on repeat this week and it fits the overall vibe of the drama.
As for the Jinxiu storyline…I just have to say that while our main couple was red flag turned green flag, the Xia Jingshi/Jingyan/Feng Xiyang arc was just NUTS. I guess it was just red flags everywhere.
It didn’t captivate me all that much. To me the Emperor was some crazy dude, who was violent and the way he was for no reason??? Feng Xiyang was very annoying and stupidly naive. i understood that the whole plot was to server as her character growth story arc though. The OST they play in her scenes suits her incredibly well! i really enjoyed that little detail.
And Xia Jingshi really is a heartless little piece of shsh. He is cruel, a hypocrite and hella obsessed. His backstory is super rough and I somewhat sympathize with him. His revenge felt satisfying for me tbh which is why his whole story and demeanor really made me question if I would have liked him if he were the MC/ if he had the MC POV.
I like Chen Heyi though and really like his styling here, so I have to admit to some occasional swooning.
The ending of that arc made sense to me but unfortunately, Xiyang’s character development was underwhelming and unconvincing to me till the end. I really could not stand her and felt really sorry for Suige. His love and empathy for his sister makes him a good person but when I watched the final scenes I just got sooo angry because she had nobody to blame but herself (like she also correctly realizes).
Many comments criticized how boring the Storm Alliance bit was. I didn’t mind it, it wasn’t draggy and only went on for a few episodes. Albeit they probably were intended as filler episodes to bridge the final arc and serve as a way out for Suige.
I will be rewatching for Fu Yixiao / Feng Suige and for all the loyal side kicks (especially Ning Fei). Please give this drama a chance if you like fast paced, action packed stories, beautiful cinematography and costumes, a beautiful cast ( all of them fit so well), occasional overpowering soundtracks and happy endings. ✨

A fast pace historical drama that starts, proceeds and ends on a HIGH NOTE!!
Fated Hearts, is one of the dramas that has kept me hooked up from the beginning till the end.Fu Yixiao, the Red clad general of Jinxiu, who loses all her memories and is severely injured, gets captured by Feng Suige, the first prince of Susha and also the mortal enemy of Jinxiu. From enemies to lovers, they face many hardships, struggles, difficulties, troubles, betrayals, pain, suffering, separations, and fight against all kinds of schemes.
What makes this drama really different, is that, every scene is very intense and highly emotional.
The whole drama progresses on a high note, with beautiful costumes, beautiful sets, and excellent music engaging you in a plot that showcases the ugly side of the human hearts, with mind boggling twists.
From scheming to betrayals, infatuation to love, brothers to enemies ,enemies to lovers, power struggles, angst, despair, hatred, injustice, this drama has all the elements perfectly balanced.
Li Qin and Chen Zheyuan, as the main leads were awesome in their acting. I liked the chemistry between them and the way their love story was developed, being each other's support. But it really pained me to see the betrayals they went through.
Some characters really annoyed me while i liked the roles of Lord Ling, Lu Ke, Yun Fang,Yun Qing, Gu Yu, Xueying, and Ning Fei.
All the actors were excellent 💯their acting.
The action scenes were excellent.
The music was excellent, with Surging waves, being my most favorite one.
Finally, as I said, this drama is a MUST WATCH drama which is highly emotional and highly intense, powerful and fierce in all aspects👍👏

Amazing story, unforgettable characters, and nonstop action!
I was first drawn in by the opening scene of the red-clad female general from Jinxiu, aiming her peacock feather-tipped arrow towards the formidable Susha general on horseback. Two arrows were fired in quick succession, the first deflected, the next hitting its target. The Susha general, disbelief on his face, falling to the ground. Afterwards, Susha soldiers surrounding and protecting him...This was the start of the most amazing Cdrama I've seen so far. Watching this for the past few weeks as it aired was like being caught in a raging river, going over rapids, boulders, at times descending into small pools of calm water, but only briefly, because those moments of respite would quickly trickle and whirl into new currents that gushed relentlessly towards its final conclusion. What a wild ride, and I loved every minute of it!
The story, plot, characters, set design, music were unforgettable. I couldn't believe how much detail went into each scene, like the costumes, interiors, hairstyles etc. were impressive. Everything was brought to life. I also liked the outdoor / nature scenes, the pacing of the story, and the fight choreography. CZY had his own fighting style - raw and powerful, which is different from say Cheng Lei (in MJTY or LOTFG) who had a more graceful and controlled style (although not sure how much the actor did with these scenes). LQ's fighting forms were beautiful as well, you can tell she has a great foundation in traditional dance. She is truly the epitome of a female general! Really enjoyed the action sequences from them.
I also loved how the relationship developed and deepened between the MC. Their love was rooted in mutual respect and understanding, which was so unbelievable considering how they hated and wanted to kill each other. He definitely fell for her first based on how he described her portrait in such detail! Loved them so much! The other characters were great too - my favorites were FSG's Feng battalion soldiers, Dr. Ling, FSG's father, Murong father, and the dark horse couple, FXY & XJY 💞. The character development & script, really brought everyone to life. There were some characters though who weren't developed as well, like the female doctor, XJS, & Murong Yao, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of FH.
Fated Hearts will stick with me for a while - I'll probably watch it a few more times 😆 before I can move on to the next one!
Highly recommend!

same old trope but better
rehashing old tropes in cdrama is normal. but done right is very few on the list.this one can be added to that.
a lot of female general was shown this year.
Li Qin is the Best by a mile.
Chen Zhe Yuan was great i like his progression from cheesy to a more mature role.
Production value was top notch.
there were characters that shouldnt have been added in the first place.
like the lady physician i dont get her character.
the kids story although needed they are annoying.
Xia Jing Shi character was weak AF i cant believe he is the main villain. The death camp story should have been explained better for character development. i dont know make him more evil i guess??
but all in all among the series shown in that time period . This was the best for me
thanks director i love a lot of your work.

Talk about enemies to lovers!!!
I loved this. Even though we are used to the whole enemies to lovers storyline, this was still good. I am surprised I didn't skip through. Chen Zhe Yuan nailed his role in this one again! There were so many villains in this one and it actually keeps you wanting to see what will they do next.
Everyone else nailed their role as well and it was so good to see Zuo Ye.
With everything that took place, I wish Feng Xi Yan got a better ending as well as Empress Zhuang (she deserved to be put out by Feng Sui Ge) I loved the fighting scene between Feng Sui Ge and Xia Jing Shi at the end.
Overall it was a great watch, you get the right balance of chemistry and romance between the leads and the political side. I would have given this a 10 if they showed how their lives progressed and maybe a little family….but that is just my preference.

A flawless series (❤ω❤)
PLOT: The FL, general of Jinxiu Kingdom, reverses the outcome of the battle by firing an arrow at the ML, the 1st Prince of Susha Kingdom. However, shortly after, she narrowly escapes assassins. The ML and the (amnesiac) FL meet, both wounded, in a village of doctors. The ML decides to take her to Susha to uncover the truth behind this unusual battle.+++ CL with Chen Zhe Yuan (♡‿♡`) & Li Qin, both magnificent, charismatic, just awesome ... (♡‿♡`)
+++ Excellent directors: the cinematography is an aesthetical perfection : sets, costumes, effects, lighting, framing, action scenes. Perfect! Furthermore, the pacing is fast, with no dull moments.
+++ The actors deliver a brilliant performance, bringing to life complex, tortured, yet endearing characters (even Jinxiu's borderline emperor :)
+++ The OSTs perfectly complement the atmosphere.
=> It's an addictive, intense series that I watched in one sitting (I'm definitively a binge-watcher :), and I'll rewatch it with a really pleasure.

She needs a therapist ... hahhaha.... and also the ML... he is to good for women in his life.... i watched till the end because I love seeing Chen Zhe Yuan.
Wish to see woman more mature in Chinese dramas... it's unbelievable how stupid, childish, egotic are, or how they castrate men, I start believe that the feminine and mature wisdom, behaviour of a woman is someting absent in Cdramas.. I think the most liked FL I saw was on Prisoner of beauty, un the Double

Weird Skin smoothing is super distracting
Just going to start by saying I love the leads in other roles before the hate comes at me. I'll start with the positives:1. FL: compared to all the other female generals in the past few years, Li Qin is a stronger performer up to those physical demands. Her acting is quite good also.
2. Overall casting choices were pretty good.
3. Some cool fight scenes.
On to the ... not for me ... after 18 ep:
1. Story is nothing new.... unless you are competing with other female general dramas on the level of hate and torture between the ML/FL before making them fall in love with each other. Then this wins the prize.
2. FL/ML no chemistry. Amazingly 2 actors both acting their parts and yeah... not a spark (IMO)
3. Isolated overdone skin smoothing with lots of pink tones while other people in the same frame with no skin smoothing is super weird. Smooth like AI face next to bumpy galore.
4. I get it she's injured (arm only) with memory loss, but I lost count of how many times she fainted and/or requires ML to rescue her.
5. Played out drama tropes to stretch out to 38 ep. Repetitive fall, catch, shine white light on frozen stares, memory loss, vision loss ... *sigh*
Potential lost....

Why amnesia saved Fu Yi Xiao's life...
This was a very strange drama but extremely entertaining and amazing chemistry between the leads. I'm easily frustrated with amnesia arcs but it was actually necessary for the story here. Fu Yi Xiao's amnesia saved her life. It saved her the trouble of killing her feelings for her toxic ex and allowed her to fall in love with Feng Sui Ge without the barriers of those past feelings.Fu Yi Xiao was an incredible FL. One of my favorites from last year. She was beautiful, intelligent and highly skilled. I loved her no BS attitude and it carried into her love life too. There were no silly miscommunications or prideful games played between these two. Even though he was a man, Feng Sui Ge was actually the less experienced one in the relationship. His moments of innocence and vulnerability when he was with Fu Yi Xiao were really sweet to watch. Feng Sui Ge was a solid male lead as well. Chen Zhe Yuan's chemistry with Li Qin is undeniable. In the beginning they were borderline masochists but that oddly added to their compatibility. But as they fell in love it was their respect for each other and their devotion that made them so great together. They are both amazing people individually, but together they were one of my favorite power couples of 2025.
For most of the show I found it weird and unrealistic that Fu Yi Xiao would abandon her country so easily. But the more we learned about how terrible of a place Jinxu is, her being so unpatriotic made sense...
Xia Jing Shi was a mysterious and complex character who had me at the edge of my seat this whole drama. I knew he was a villain, and I did not want him to succeed in his plans, but the suspense had me so hyped! Until the day came and his actual attempted coup was very underwhelming and rushed after all of that build up. I wasn't surprised that he never fell in love with the princess of Susha and still wanted Fu Yi Xiao. I mean, what man could get over Fu Yi Xiao?? What I didn't love is that Feng Sui Ge was the one that got to kill Xia Jing Shi. I felt like that kill belonged to Fu Yi Xiao. Xia Jing Shi lied to her and stole her whole life from her. Yes, Xia Jing Shi did stab Sui Ge's little sister, but she was in that situation because of her own decisions.
I have so many gripes with the princess and the Xia brothers but I was totally engrossed in their arc. I know a lot of people hated Feng Xi Yang because she was a desperate fool in the beginning. But I understood her being young, spoiled and rebellious. She saw a handsome savior with a cute face and beautiful hair and fell in love. Bonus, he's a prince! But once it became clear that there was no way he would ever be interested, she pressed the issue too many times and I lost respect for her. Then she gets with his murderous tyrant of a brother out of spite. At this point I just pitied her because she had finally realized her mistakes but it was too late and she had clearly entered a period of self loathing. Both of the Xia brothers were rotten people. So I couldn't vote for either of their happy endings. But they were both SO entertaining.
Overall, this drama was a lot better than I expected it to be. My rating would probably be even higher if they didn't give Feng Sui Ge that random and useless amnesia arc and then rushed the ending. Also the OST was awful. I could handle Sa Ding Ding in Moonlight Mystique but here it felt like the BGM and the soundtracks were attacking almost every scene.

Well made, with some small flaws
StoryThroughout this series, I was never bored. The story is straightforward. The politics were simple enough so I was never confused, yet interesting so I didn't get bored. Everything made sense. I never felt like the politics were fillers; instead, they felt necessary, they felt like they were a result of the plot rather than the reason for it. There were no "sidequests".
Since the way the first episode was set up (Jinxiu being attacked), my feeling was that I was watching "the other country", because we are used to the good guys being on defense. This was really cool, I enjoyed the dynamic.
Characters
To be honest, I never felt much chemistry between the leads. However, their story is well-written, honest, not marked by misunderstandings. They keep their promises to each other, they stick together through thick and thin. I think it's exactly the kind of love story I want to see from a cdrama. There was a moment when the main characters could have split up "for the sake of each other", I am glad it didn't happen.
Fu Yi Xiao is a nice character. She is smart enough so she doesn't trust anyone blindly. She is decisive both in battles and in love. She was no snowflake. She can withstand torture and she doesn't blink in front of violence. There were many times she could have interfered to save evil characters or to ask for a judgement, yet she didn't, she watched them die.
Feng Sui Ge was a breath of fresh air between other MLs. He is someone that cares about the people around him, but he does not forgive those who betray him. He is serious, composed, but he is also not afraid of expressing his feelings. He does not negotiate with evil characters, he kills them without a second thought. For revenge, he will go miles, and he will punish everyone that tries to stop him. He stands up straight in front of the emperor, he defies orders, he does not submit and he fights for what he thinks it's right.
The Princess of Susha and Emperor of Jinxiu were an unexpected, yet absolutely stunning part of the plot. Such crazy, unhinged interactions between them. A desperate person wanting power and revenge, and a violent tyrant drowning in pleasures, yet never truly happy. They start to slowly find other sides of themselves, but it's late - their love story is tragic. I wished they had a happy ending, I wished I would see more of them. I know cdramas are a lot about justice, and that characters will always die for their past, but I hoped for an exception.
Critics:
- Too many moments when someone is seriously injured / wounded during fights, but then makes a full recovery within a day.
- A lot of last moment saving each other.
- Some of the side stories are not correctly wrapped up.
Overall, 9/10. It would have been a 10/10, but these small tropes and the small lack of chemistry I felt make it a 9/10.
