slow pacing with unbelievable characters (watch suggestions)

Content Warnings: see the comment under a spoiler for 2 of them, stalking
What I Liked
- that it didn't start with a flash forward or back
- meet-cute subverted trope
- I did laugh at the terrible hiding skill in episode 4
- episode 9 was good
Room For Improvement
- Taishin was unbelievably naive (he still asked that question in episode 10, what on earth) and Takara was oddly cruel for not telling Taishin the truth in episode 7
- a glacial pace with their relationship
- odd how very similar behaviors were categorized differently
- nonsense stuff: how they carried tents, sleeping bags, lanterns, food, etc in those small backpacks

Better stay as a manga instead of a live action adaptation - So slow, so many "Eh?"
“Takara no Vidro” aka “Takara’s Treasure” is a typical story about how two opposites attract and end up together. Technically, the story is sweet and the two male leads are good-looking. Visually, they are perfectly casted. Iwase Yoji, playing the super popular Takara, is handsome and cool, and just has that tsundere aura around him. Him just casually sitting on the bench reading a book is a sight to behold. Contrasting him is the cute and bubbly Taishin, played by Konishi Eito. Konishi’s big eyes really sparkle like the marbles. The plot is simple and predictable. The first half was filled with creepy, stalkerish and annoying ‘eh?’ If Taishin is a girl, I would have complained about the character just as much. In a manga, Taishin might be cute and adorable, and it’s up to the reader to set the pace. But in an adaptation, whether he’s a boy or girl, I just can’t stand that naive, sloooow talking/processing character who gives you puppy eyes and acts surprised all the time. It’s so slow!!!
It’s so unfortunate because I really enjoy the last few episodes when they are finally dating. Taishin is still Taishin, but at least we have deeper conversations, and they really try to open up to each other. Their feelings are conveyed honestly, no matter how embarrassing they feel inside. They really do want to make this relationship work. Seeing Takara getting possessive and jealous, and acting out of his cool character is fun. I wish we had seen more of this between them. I also would like to see Takara express his feelings more verbally.
J-dramas are usually rated lower on MDL, so I am quite surprised “Takra no Vidro” actually has an 8.0. Despite loving the male leads visually, the acting is actually not bad, and enjoying the last few episodes, this drama is just too slow for me. I am also not a fan of overly naive characters. You can still have a bubbly vs tsundere, opposite attracts plot without making the character so dumb.

Don't be the audience if it's not your favorite game (I don't get the hate)
Takara no vidro is for those who craves for the calm, peacefulness and serenity.Even though the first episode starts with a weird reason for the meet cute, I assure you that from the second episode you would not even remember the first episode even happened.
Coming to the story, it has no complex plot, no twists and turns that keeps you on edge, no dragging things for 5 episodes, no extra characters' unnecessary involvement. It is a very simple, straight forward love between a naive boy from the village and a cool senior who fears he might turn into what he hates.
Casting was so on point, I don't think I can see anyone playing Taishin that well because Konishi Eito (actor who played Taishin) knew the selling point and he did not disappoint. He knew how the typical naive bl character needs to be portrayed and he just did that. The character was a shy, naive, dumb village boy with pretty eyes and nothing in his brain and Konishi Eito showed us only that. And the reason people are pissed off about his acting is because he exactly portrayed that depthless character. Many actors overdo it or just straight up give us stiff acting. People need to understand that he was only presenting what was written and given to him. If you want a powerful character ask for the author or the director, not the actor who played the role.
Also, Iwase Yoji did pretty good as Takara. I loved his hair when he was under the sun. It was literally glowing. So the casting was pretty much a visual appetizer.
Absolutely loved both the osts, intro and the outro. They got the right feels. The music was included where it was needed, no over promoting the osts was done so that's good.
It has many rewatchable scenes and if you are someone who love to go back to your favorite series and go through a few scenes again and again, there are going to be many in case of this series.
Overall, this series is easily one of the best ones that came out this year and if you are someone who is looking for something intimate and comfy this is a must watch.
If you are someone who wants whirlwind romance where they start fucking right from the first episode itself, kindly leave your hate for this series elsewhere.

Slowly paced, cute and different
As usual, japanese BL offer something different.Boy's (Taishin) bird died and because he had him since school, he is endlessly sad and cries in the woods. There a tourist (Takara) comes by and conforts sad boy. Sometimes later Taishin comes to the same university where Takara studies...
In the next seven episodes we see Taishin coming to grips with his feeling, each episode is a step forward for him. Because (?) Taishin is from a rual area he is incredible naive and innocent and does not know much about life. On the other hand Takara is the opposite, he is disenchanted and does not expect much from life. But Taishin opens his heart nearly instantly and while a "selfish bastard" (his words in the finale), he really does care about him and wants to protect Taishin, because he also can't believe how naive Taishin is...
The mellow pace and the story focus just for one couple was a nice difference after many shows with two or more couples and rapidly switching from one couple to the next. Both actors did a really good job of portraying their characters and the vibe of the series was mostly relaxed with some dark spots espiecally for Takara. While the pace was slow I felt never bored with any episode. The only letdown (as of many JBLs) are the lack of real kissing. But maybe we get more with the "spin off". Artstyle, camera, scenery, lighting was top notch.
Overall I can recommand this show especially if you have a stressful life, because it will calm you down. Besides that you get a sweet, sometimes fluffy story which was sensible crafted.

A Hidden Gem
This series not only started emotionally deep, it also ended up being deeply substantial. I honestly felt like we really got to know these two unlikeliest of inamoratos. Do not misinterpret what I just stated, however. Although this is not an intensely romantic story, it is nonetheless a profoundly solemn love story. This is one of the most distinguishable love stories I have ever seen and certainly one of the more insightful Japanese ones. While Japanese BLs sometimes go deep, dark, and pensive and paint life generally in broad strokes as somber, this series projects intimacy between two guys in a non-intimate way but still affirms a sense of profound communion. Overall, however, this is an exceptional and deeply introspective BL from Japan that concentrates on the two protagonists that makes you feel as if you are watching the cultivation of a relationship that is a world onto their own.Was this review helpful to you?

Cute/creepy, Laid-Back College Love Story
A cute, laid-back college love story about two seemingly different people. However, by the end, it becomes clear that they are more similar than they initially appear.Character are: Takara - A senior who appears cold and closed-off, with few friends. However, he's insanely popular because of his looks.(I liked how Takara's backstory was presented. It did a great job of explaining his closed-off mindset and why he behaves the way he does). Taishin - A cute, always confused, naive, overly happy, easygoing, and somewhat creepy freshman.(we don't get much of Taishin backstory just mainly that he comes from a great family)
As the story progresses the similarities between them are the driving point of the story and it's obvious. Both Takara and Taishin are extreme overthinkers, constantly afraid of scaring each other away. They share a deep love for hiking, nature, and a tendency to be highly critical of themselves. Despite not being shown too obviously, they gradually understand and connect with each other because of them.
Now let's talk about the first official time they met, by far the strangest and, obviously, the creepiest part of the series. After their coincidental meeting in the mountains, where Taishin was grieving the loss of his beloved bird, Takara chose to stay and comfort him, offering a small life lesson: that he would be fine. This one encounter led Taishin to decide he needed to enroll in Takara's university, join his hiking club, and learn everything about him. To his defense, Taishin's character is supposed to be oblivious to almost everything, including how creepy his actions might seem. However, following someone so obsessively after just one conversation is a bit much, especially when he admits in front of his friend that he enrolled in his university just because of that brief interaction.
The ending feels a bit unfinished for my liking. I felt like something was missing. I still don't know if Taishin's family knows about their relationship, what happened with Takara's mother, or how their friends reacted to them being together. Their relationship didn't really develop either, they always seem a bit distant and scared of making the wrong move, which doesn't quite fit the idea of them constantly hanging out, having sleepovers, and always talking. I can't say there was any significant character development, either individually or together.

don't shame me for liking this
I honestly rated this show very highly. and that's just by pure preference. I really love slow burns and it's definitely classifies as one. it's very cliched but as someone who likes stupid dramas it fit the bill for me. it definitely started off as a show that I didn't think I'd like. but it grew on me. The main character seem very ditzy but as someone who is personally not always there when it comes to romance stuff, I found it honestly bit relatable. everyone's complaining in the reviews about how surprised the main was about everything but I genuinely act like that sometimes so I find it a bit funny. So this is for the people who don't quite care about a plot and moreso care about cutesy stuff. I was blushing more than I'd like to admit but that's just me hahaWas this review helpful to you?

An Uncomfortable 'Romance'
I seem to fall into the unpopular opinion category with this one. I did not like Takara’s Treasure as much as I had hoped. Since I really enjoyed Your Sky, I went into this drama thinking I would love this one as well, but unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me. While the series certainly has its cute moments, I found Taishin’s character very difficult to connect with.Maybe his behavior was meant to showcase a certain personality type or maybe he might be on the spectrum, but still, his portrayal was hard for me to digest. If I had to summarize the most memorable aspects of his dialogue, they would be:
1. “Eh?”
2. “Uh...”
3. “Well...”
4. “I-I am so sorry.”
5. “Th-Thank you very much.”
These five lines seemed to make up about 60–70% of his dialogue, and after a while, it became extremely annoying. The extremely slow speech pace didn’t help either. I had to use 1.5x+ speed just to make it feel natural.
After the university-following incident, I expected Taishin to show some growth or maturity, but he continued the same sneaky, childlike behavior. What made it more shocking was that his actions never seemed to have any ill intent. He genuinely believed what he was doing was acceptable. However, that only cemented my impression that Taishin felt far too much like a child throughout the series. I kept waiting for his character development, but it never came.
Your Sky (another show with a childlike MC) at least had some character growth for Teerak’s character, but this one didn’t deliver the same. Due to this, the main relationship felt really weird to me.
Moving on to Takara, he is gorgeous; I couldn’t take my eyes off him. However, I found it difficult to tell whether he genuinely liked Taishin. While it was clear that Taishin really liked him, Takara’s affection sometimes felt more like he loved the idea of Taishin rather than the person himself. I genuinely couldn't tell why Takara liked Taishin. Is it his marble eyes? Cheerfulness? His trusting nature? Taishin represents everything Takara isn’t, and while that contrast usually works well for most dramas, this drama just wasn't convincing when it came to their emotional connection.
PROS:
1. Really good acting
2. Beautiful cinematography
CONS:
1. Childlike MC with no character growth
2. Unconvincing and slightly uncomfortable romance
Overall, while Takara’s Treasure has some very nice cinematography, acting, and a few sweet moments, the lack of character development and emotional depth made it a disappointing watch for me.
Final Score: 5.5/10

Cute only if you find obsessive fan behaviour cute
It romanticised bordeline stalking (sure stalking by a middle-aged man is creepy and it's fine if it's a supposedly cute teenage boy who knows nothing about the big bad city), but not in the same way that "My Beautiful Man" does it. The latter had some character development and an intriguing dynamic between the MLs which created a perverse yet captivating chemistry (which is what i think was what it was going for). This though, had almost zero character development (both main and side characters). The actor playing Taishin was not able to pull off the cute innocent country boy role (he looked like a scared frog talking at 0.5 speed 90% of the time). Bad casting choice and the script was as flat as a runway. Everything was very mediocre for a japanese BL and was quite honestly a waste of time for me.

Absolutely adored this
Writing this at 10/11 will update if the spin-off episode somehow ruins everything, but I‘m quite confident it won’t so:Not much to say it’s your typical cool cold guy + innocent, naive, sheltered romance. I personally loved every second of it. So incredibly cute.
Both actors did really well in their roles, I was a bit put off by Taishin looking mich older than he was supposed to be and especially than his co-star (which makes sense since he is 4 years older irl) who was supposedly his senior. But overall it didn’t really take anything away from the experience.
Some things could have been done a bit different…but overall I still really really enjoyed this one.
