Xu Kai Best one ☝️ 10/10 ⭐️

Love this drama so much ! Really good 👍. Xu Kai did so well in his character. Amazingly good 👍!!! 10/10 ⭐️!!! A MUST Watch drama from Xu Kai
The actress also made me really hate her character and blamed her, because this is all because of her, XK did what he did . Amazing acting from her too 👍.

The best psychological, family and social drama of a decade

I lived in 90, I was then ofcthe age of main heroes Chen Hui and Gao SongGe. I lived in Poland on this time of big economical transformation, when system collapsed and nobody was protected from anything. Money rulled. This is a drama about similar times. And being young and inteligent, goodhearted and full od empathy, but without a good choice, without chances to live normal life. About love that is missing and deadly conflict between those, who should love and protect, but they dont even know how. And about love, that charish and protects till the end, to the extreme. It is about fighting the fate, about trying to change the path, about finding prace eventually. Great story, Great acting, Great directing, Great sets, really recreating mid 90.s. In Poland we had "Cinema of moral anxiety ". This movie like that Polish cultural phenomenon, shows person destroyed and eventually killed by the system, family system, economical system, system of opression. This drama is so a piece of art.

A Heartfelt Story of Family Bond and Drugs

Welp, before "Eight Hundred" aired for the first time, I'd been banking on it since the story involves drug traffickers and a police papa (a conflicting trope which I love to see). FYI, it's an OG source, meaning that I can't predict too much from the synopsis given. On the other hand, I've turned into Xu Kai's anti (being an anti doesn't mean I'm bashing, criticizing this or that, and whatsoever you call names about, but I just simply have no interest over the actors I dislike, that's all) and reuters' leaked pictures had shown that he would be paired with Ancy Deng as his co-star. Okay, so let's just rock, shall we?

The story takes place in 1990s in Fengyang Town, a little suburban district of 800-radius-meter which houses the coal mines and entertainment sources for the populace there. Chen Hongbing is a very dedicated and upright police officer who vows to dismantle every single crime scene for the sake of justice. He also has a loving family including his fussy wife Ding Yue, his son Chen Hui, his father Grandpa Chen, and Chen Hui's lover Gao Songge. The family always spends their mundane life peacefully in Fengyang until the appearance of Peidun Cough Syrup disrupts the peace in the little town. Through several investigations and raids, Hongbing and his crew manage to secure several downlines of the cough syrup, but they never find out who the mastermind behind these scenes. Unbeknownst to them, it is Chen Hui and Songge who stage the layers of deception to gather money for Songge's kidney transplant. As they are risked of being discovered and arrested by the police, the couple has no choice but to create multiple webs of deception to lure the police away until they earn enough to perform the transplantation. Chen Hui has a golden heart to save Songge's life, but his method is clearly wrong as he was led astray when he encountered Tian Jinhai, the cough syrup's tycoon who coerced Chen Hui to join the underground market of drug traffickers. And I'm guaranteeing 100% that you will see a super duper BE in the end.

First of all, I need to appraise the screenwriter for being able to develop such a heart-breaking story while not being explicit in the process, giving the audiences chances to guess how the story works out and what kind of plot twist will happen in the moment of suspense. "Eight Hundred" also manages to incorporate Hongbing's daily life as a police officer and his mission in tracking down the traffickers (it reminds me of "The Truth" by Gong Jun and Sun Yi, but the former turned out to be a fiasco that I dropped it in ep 7), which I appreciate very much. Another thing, we can see Chen Hui's unhinged personality being unveiled, as he strangles Tian Jinhai to death. When the father and son confront each other, I feel their pain and love simultaneously since they just want to be an ordinary united family who can stand against all odds together.

For the acting, I must say Xu Kai nails Chen Hui character seamlessly as he transforms into an ingenious outlaw yet obedient son. His micro-expressions are always accurate, which helps you feel his emotional impacts whenever he breaks down or just wants the best for his family. Ancy Deng also does well as Songge, though I wish Songge could pry more into Chen Hui's issues instead of letting him settle everything by himself. As a couple, Xu Kai and Ancy Deng complement each other pretty well and the two of them have palpable chemistry, as romance isn't the main focus of the drama. Ding Yongdai captures the essence of Chen Hongbing the police papa too, as his emotional turbulence always takes me drifting into the story. Special mention to Hu Ke (as Ding Yue) and Qu Zhazha (as Liu Na) too because they have a unique sisterly bond although they only meet several times. And don't forget the car crash staged by Huo Kaiming too.

OSTs are not published openly, so I can't comment on that part much further. Sets, backgrounds, and costumes are full of 90s retro vibes, which can make you feel deja vu if you're one of those in that era. However, I wasn't born in 1990s, so I can't make any comparisons with the real 1990s.

Would I rewatch this? Maybe yes, if I'm in a drama slump period again. To date, I'm still waiting for VIP tracks as I have no penny to purchase express package. But, I've seen leaked spoilers of the ending, so I might as well include it here. Overall, a ten out of ten and one of the best crime dramas I've ever seen in these years. Good luck and happy watching!!!

The best talented actor xu kai.

“800 Meters” showcases Xu Kai in one of his most grounded and emotionally resonant performances to date. Departing from his usual historical and fantasy roles, this drama leans into realism, offering a refreshing perspective on perseverance, youth, and inner struggle.
Xu Kai delivers a nuanced portrayal of a character caught between expectation and self-doubt. His acting feels natural and restrained, allowing subtle expressions and body language to carry much of the emotional weight. Rather than relying on dramatic exaggeration, he builds his character gradually, making the audience genuinely invested in his journey.
The story itself revolves around more than just a physical race—it becomes a metaphor for life’s pressures and personal growth. The pacing is steady, giving enough room for character development without feeling dragged. Supporting characters add depth to the narrative, each contributing to the protagonist’s transformation in meaningful ways.
Visually, the drama maintains a clean and realistic aesthetic. The cinematography captures both the intensity of competition and the quiet moments of reflection, balancing tension and calm effectively. The soundtrack complements the story well, enhancing emotional scenes without overpowering them.
What makes “800 Meters” stand out is its simplicity. It doesn’t try to be overly complicated or sensational. Instead, it focuses on relatable themes: determination, failure, and the courage to keep going. This grounded approach makes the drama feel authentic and impactful.
Overall, “800 Meters” is a compelling watch, especially for those who appreciate character-driven storytelling. Xu Kai proves his versatility as an actor, delivering a performance that is both sincere and memorable.
Very² emotional drama, bestt

Breakthrough perfomance

Even if i weren't an Alaso , I would rate it so . Totally raw , realistic storyline dealing with complex human emotions which is complicated and conflict inducing too. It's not a moral education class .
It's shows a mirror to the vicissitude of life during early 90s of china . One misstep and there is no coming back .. it's deep slippery slope bro.

It's goosebumps inducing, "the feeling will linger on and stay with you for a long time " kind of performance by #XuKai , not to steal the shine of the other cast .. but his performance is stunning .. the effort invested in to it is palpable. I took off 2 points from re-watch parameter , solely due to the highly expected , logical but - I'm - unable - to - accept it-ending

Must watch .. best drama ever

I don’t know what’s wrong with the people who rated this drama, but it’s easily a 10/10 for me. Ignore the rating and just watch—I’m sure most of the negative reviews came from haters. This is hands down the best drama of 2026. Oh Xu Kai! I love him so much, and his performance here is truly award-worthy. The acting is top-notch, the chemistry between the leads is electric, and every scene feels alive with emotion.

The story itself is gripping from the first episode. It blends romance, suspense, and heartfelt drama in a way that kept me glued to the screen the entire time. Every twist and turn left me wanting more, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. The character development is beautifully done; you really feel connected to their struggles, hopes, and triumphs. The writing is sharp and emotional, perfectly balanced with moments of humor and warmth.

The production quality is also worth mentioning—the cinematography is stunning, the costumes and sets are breathtaking, and the soundtrack fits every mood perfectly. Each episode feels like a cinematic experience. It’s the kind of drama that stays with you long after you finish it, making you think about the characters as if they were real people.

I truly believe this drama deserves more recognition. Give it a try, watch it without paying attention to the ratings, and I promise you will not regret it. For anyone looking for a drama that will make you laugh, cry, and fall in love, this is the one. Thank you to the entire cast and production team for creating such a masterpiece.

This drama series delivers an unforgettable experience from the very first episode. The plot masterfully weaves together suspense, romance, and emotional depth, creating a story that is both captivating and heartfelt. Each scene feels purposeful, drawing the viewer into a world where every twist carries weight and consequence. The pacing is tight, maintaining tension without sacrificing character development, which ensures that the emotional stakes always feel earned.

The standout element of the series is its performances, particularly Xu Kai’s portrayal of the lead character. He brings an intensity and vulnerability to his role that makes each moment feel authentic. His ability to convey complex emotions with subtle expressions keeps the audience fully invested in his journey. The supporting cast complements his performance perfectly, adding layers of warmth, humor, and tension to the narrative.

Visually, the drama is stunning. Cinematography, lighting, and set design work in harmony to create a rich atmosphere that enhances the storytelling. The soundtrack heightens the emotional resonance, with music cues that linger long after an episode ends. These production choices elevate the series from a simple drama to a deeply immersive experience.

What truly sets this drama apart is its ability to balance heart-wrenching moments with uplifting scenes of love, hope, and resilience. The writing never feels forced; instead, it flows naturally, allowing the characters to grow in ways that feel both believable and impactful. By the end of each episode, viewers are left not just entertained but moved, eager to see how the journey will continue.

This series is more than just a story—it’s an emotional ride that connects with its audience on multiple levels. With its seamless blend of gripping plotlines, compelling performances, and polished production, this drama stands out as one of the most memorable offerings of recent years.

A Masterclass in "Brokenness" - Xu Kai in Eight Hundred (方圆八百米)

If you thought you knew Xu Kai, think again. In Eight Hundred (方圆八百米), he completely shatters his "idol drama" image to deliver a career-defining performance that is both grounded and gut-wrenching. Moving away from the polished world of historical fantasy, this drama dives headfirst into a gritty, realistic portrayal of perseverance and the crushing weight of expectation.

Xu Kai’s portrayal of Chen Hui—a character caught between his own moral compass and the suffocating pressures of 1990s mining-life—is a masterclass in restraint. He eschews grand, theatrical gestures, instead letting the emotional heavy lifting happen in the quietest moments: a flickering gaze, a slumped shoulder, or a hollow silence. It is a nuanced, mature turn that proves his incredible versatility as an actor.

His "独当一面" (standing alone) is not an act of strength, but a reflection of collective trauma. Whether it is the frantic guilt of a desperate act or the silent agony of his final farewell to his parents, Xu Kai inhabits the "Little Bitter Gourd" with a raw, visceral humanity that makes the character's descent into the deep end feel inevitable and heartbreaking.

Visually, the show is stunning in its simplicity. The clean, realistic aesthetic captures the raw intensity of the competition and the lonely moments of reflection with equal beauty. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the audience to truly inhabit the characters' world. Supporting characters add vital depth, with veteran powerhouse actors providing the perfect moral foil to Chen Hui’s flawed, broken person.

Eight Hundred is a soul-stirring watch. It is a "良心剧" (drama of conscience) that focuses on the authentic human experience. For anyone who appreciates character-driven storytelling and the high-stakes "cat-and-mouse" game between justice and blood, this is easily the best show of 2026.

Eight Hundred
