Everything Is Overdone, and I Finally Overdid It
Oki, y'all roasted this drama so aggressively everywhere that naturally I had to see what the heck was going on. 😂I think this is a perfect example of adjusted expectations being the key to happiness. I've watched enough Republican dramas - and enough short dramas in the genre - to know that subtlety has left the building. I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've seen at least three short dramas with basically this exact plot..
The title Overdo is honestly PERFECT because this drama takes every single Republican drama trope and says:
"You know what would make this better? MORE."
-Bitch-slapping? MORE.
-Guns? MORE.
-Toxic family members? MORE.
-Trauma? MORE.
-The FL bent on Revenge? MOOOOOORE
-People dramatically staring into the middle distance? MOOOOORE.
-The OST? AGGRESSIVELY MORE. The OST is apparently being paid by the decibel because WHY IS IT ALWAYS SCREAMING AT ME?! 😂
And honestly, the excessive soundtrack might be part of why the production feels cheaper. This drama has the energy of an old-school telenovela that was reincarnated as a Republican drama and decided to take absolutely ZERO chill pills.
Some scenes had me crying laughing. The plane scene? The simulated chess game? The ML diving into the pond to save the FL?
BRO.
So no, I did not come here expecting sophisticated writing, historical realism, or subtle character development.
I came here for THE CHAOS. And thankfully, the chaos is abundant. I've basically completed the Republican Drama Bingo card by Episode 8. 😂
I do appreciate that the drama took only a couple of episodes of showing us the leads' past. The flashbacks are actually pretty well done, and the leads were genuinely cute together. I also like the fact that they already had a bond before meeting properly. And considering some dramas nowadays will give us 20+ episodes of flashbacks before remembering they have a present-day plot, this restraint is honestly refreshing. 😭
The Murong mother and daughter looking approximately the exact same age, however, is taking me OUT.
Meanwhile, the ML is the Cinderella of this drama. This poor man is getting emotionally abused by his family so badly that I'm half expecting them to make him scrub the courtyard next. At least nobody has handed him a mop yet. Small wins. 😂😭
And the FL? REVENGE. That's it. That's the tweet.
Girl has been through enough, she has a wardrobe to DIE FOR, and honestly, I'm not interested in watching her fall in love right now.
FUCK ROMANCE. GET YOUR REVENGE, BABYGIRL. BURN THE WHOLE DAMN HOUSE DOWN. GET THEM!!😂😂😂
BUT.
We need to talk about the ML because... sir, I'm struggling.
This man is honestly quite unlikeable so far. Yes, I completely understand that he's angry. He was literally framed for a murder he didn't commit because of the FL, so he is absolutely entitled to be pissed. I even understand the pettiness to a certain extent. I SUPPORT PETTINESS. But bro... the way he's acting is giving petulant little boy, not emotionally wounded man. 😭
I really hoped we'd get some actual character development, but I'm now on Episode 10 and... I'm tired, bro. The FL needs a MAN, not another child she has to emotionally babysit. Just saying. And unpopular opinion, but I also can't say the chemistry between the leads is overflowing. Granted, they're currently in their red-flag, mutual-hatred, everyone-is-miserable era, but even in the flashbacks, I wasn't exactly feeling the earth-shattering chemistry people seem to be expecting. There's just... something missing.
And the kisses? MEH.
Sir, if I'm going to sit through THIS level of Republican drama circus, these kisses better eventually pay my emotional damages. I am investing my time in the bitch-slapping, gun-pointing, pond-diving, psychological warfare extravaganza. I need a RETURN ON INVESTMENT. 😂
So far? Flat.
Which is honestly a crime because WHAT AM I WATCHING THIS FOR THEN?! 😭
The dialogue isn't helping either because some of it is CRINGE AF, ngl. And this drama is a perfect example of why, yes, good actors are incredibly important, but even great actors can only do so much. If the writing and directing aren't giving them anything to work with, eventually you can FEEL the struggle. 😭
And after making it to Episode 10, I think I've reached my limit.
I'm dropping this. Because there is a reason I indulged in Republican SHORT dramas.
The keyword being: SHORT.
I can handle 20–24 fifteen-minute episodes of people slapping each other, pointing guns at each other's heads, dramatically plotting revenge, and behaving like they've collectively lost their minds.
But when these exact same shenanigans are stretched across 30+ full-length episodes?
That's not a drama anymore. That's an interesting form of psychological torture that I have officially decided I do NOT want to inflict upon myself. 💀
I came here for the chaos. I stayed for the chaos. I laughed at the chaos.
But eventually even I had to look at this drama and say:
"Girl, I have other things to do with my life." 😂
So yeah, I'm tapping out at Episode 10.
Everything is overdone. The drama is dramatic. The toxicity is toxic. The OST is fighting for its life. The FL is plotting murder in couture. The ML needs therapy. Everyone needs therapy. The kisses need CPR.
And I need to go home. 😂💀

An ultimate Overdo of adrenaline rush for Republican-era drama fans.
This show hits every single trope that makes Republican-era dramas so ridiculously addictive.✨ The Dynamic: Delicious love-hate push and pull where neither side backs down
💔 The Male Lead: Zhang Ling he is serving. His character has gone through betrayal and childhood pain, he masks his vulnerability with cynical humor, lethal smirks, and sharp retorts.
🎭 The Female Lead: Wang Churan locked in total revenge mode—suppressing every ounce of emotion and affection just to survive
💥 The Pacing: Just as a calm moment settles in, the next major plot twist hits to keep your adrenaline at an all-time high.
The chemistry between Murong Qingyi and Ren Susu is pure fire. It’s messy, it’s intense, and the lead chemistry is off the charts. If you love dark, high-drama romances with toxic family stakes, do not skip this.

Worth Watching
I’m currently on Episode 22, and I have no plans to drop this drama. It started off at a steady pace, but the story becomes much more engaging as it progresses. Each episode leaves me wanting to watch the next one.The cast has done a great job bringing their characters to life. Zhang Linghe delivers a convincing performance, showing a good range of emotions and making his character feel authentic. The chemistry between the leads is natural, and the emotional scenes are especially well executed.
The production quality is solid, with beautiful cinematography, fitting music, and smooth pacing in the later episodes. While the first few episodes require a little patience, the payoff is definitely worth it.
Although I haven’t finished the drama yet, Episode 22 has completely pulled me in. I’m looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds, and I hope it maintains this quality until the end.
Definitely recommended for anyone who enjoys character-driven stories with strong emotional development.

Overdo — My Review ❤️?
I went into Overdo already knowing how much I love Zhang Linghe, but somehow I still wasn’t prepared for how deeply I would become invested in Murong Qingyi’s story.I genuinely loved this drama. The storyline was intense, emotional, and at times incredibly painful to watch. And yes… the ending shattered me completely. I cried with Murong Qingyi more than once, and some of his scenes genuinely broke my heart. Zhang Linghe brought so much depth and emotion to the character that it was impossible not to feel everything alongside him.
I also understand why Overdo wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. The story was heavy, intense, and emotionally demanding rather than an easy or comforting watch. It required patience and a willingness to sit with complicated emotions and difficult circumstances.
But for me, that intensity was also what made it unforgettable.
Even after the heartbreak, I’m glad I watched it. I became attached to these characters, felt their pain, celebrated their moments, and ultimately experienced the story with them.
And Murong Qingyi… you will stay with me for a long time. 🥹❤️🩹
Final verdict: A painful, intense, unforgettable watch — and definitely one of those dramas that stays in your heart long after the finale.

Very Good drama and Must watch it
The rating is not right!! I almost belived it but luckily i watch it . People who dont have bad intention will give justice to this epic drama. They are so GOOD and the drama got classy. Tells about family story and educate us about real love needs sacrifice. I reads books and assessing each character and Overdo drama have the qualities and very not like typical drama who always show happiness and good things . The plot all great ! Please watch and you will love it!!!! So bad and very unfair to give low rating and this drama should get more rating. they deserve it!!!Was this review helpful to you?
Overkill / overdramatic
To much OVERDONE !!!! This drama really said, “Why solve one problem when we can create ten more?” 😭The unnecessary misunderstandings, forced angst, endless suffering, and over-the-top reactions were simply too much. Every small issue somehow had to become a life-changing tragedy. I don’t mind drama, but this was drama for the sake of drama.
At some point I stopped feeling emotionally invested and started wondering when everyone would just sit down and have a normal conversation. 😂. The premise had potential, but the excessive drama took away from my enjoyment. I personally prefer stories that allow emotions to develop naturally instead of repeatedly pushing situations to an extreme. Some parts felt unnecessarily complicated and emotionally heavy. Overall, it simply wasn’t my cup of tea.
One star from me. I need my C-dramas to have emotions, not emotional warfare.

Very disappointed because I have booked for a long time and waited for a long time
1. With a budget that's quite high drama, but the production is chaotic.2. The star-studded cast and their usually okay acting felt off because of the camera work which was all over the place and sometimes missed the right close-ups. When it was important, the camera cut elsewhere, and when it wasn't important, it zoomed in, wasting the acting.
3. With that pace and some lost acting, the vibes are similar to a soap opera. If only the production team had chosen a slightly more slow-burn approach and slightly reduced the brightness and overacting, it would have been really good, capturing that classic dimmed, vintage vibe. Instead, it's like B612.
4. The cinematography and transitions, the transitions and camera work made my eyes dizzy, the cinematography was very rough and sometimes there were disturbing blur effects.

Overdo: All Style, Very Little Substance
Overdo had the potential to be an engaging drama, but it ended up being a frustrating experience. The story relies on repetitive conflicts and forced drama instead of meaningful character development. Many plot twists feel unrealistic and exist only to create temporary shock rather than move the story forward. The characters are inconsistent, with decisions that often make little sense. Instead of growing naturally, they seem to change based on what the plot needs at the moment. This makes it difficult to connect with them or become emotionally invested.
The pacing is another major issue. Some episodes drag with unnecessary scenes, while important moments are rushed and left without satisfying explanations. Even though the production quality and visuals are decent, they aren't enough to make up for the weak writing.
Overall, Overdo is disappointing. If you're looking for a well-written drama with believable characters and a satisfying storyline, this one is easy to skip.

A letdown!
This drama is weird, seems like a messy storyline and add bad CGI to that. Their faces could not save the sh*t show. This show is like the Temu version of Maid's Revenge (2022), which is saying a lot. And, I really liked Maid's revenge. I said what I said. Bye.
Basically, this drama was supposed to be a short vertical drama, the director decided getting some pretty faces to work on it would make it a blockbuster, didn't happen.
And what the f was that AI intro? That pissed me off, right at the start

The most anticipated drama of 2026 and it's worth it.
I've been waiting for this drama since last year, and I finally get to watch it. Everyone have their own opinion and taste. I actually like the story, the cast, the acting, and the costumes. All the 3 leading pairs are beautiful and handsome, and they did a great job at portraying their character. Was this review helpful to you?
Someone Please Hide the Zoom Button
I really wanted to enjoy Overdo, but the more I watched, the more disappointed I became. The directing, camera work, and editing are honestly exhausting. Every emotional scene is filled with dramatic zoom-ins, endless close-ups, and cuts every couple of seconds. Instead of making the scenes more intense, it just became distracting. At one point, I felt like the camera was acting harder than the cast.
The drama also got off to a rough start. That original AI-generated opening looked surprisingly cheap, and it's no surprise viewers complained enough for it to be replaced. It wasn't exactly the best way to introduce a supposedly high-budget production.
Then there's the story. It's incredibly predictable and stuffed with the same old tropes we've seen so many times before. The constant misunderstandings, toxic relationships, and over-the-top drama don't feel fresh—they just feel recycled.
What bothered me the most was the directing style. It reminded me of those vertical micro-dramas you scroll past online: nonstop close-ups, frantic editing, and background music that practically screams, "You're supposed to cry now!" A good scene shouldn't need all those tricks to make people feel something.
Even some of the CGI took me out of the story. That airplane looked like it belonged in Pororo the Little Penguin. I genuinely laughed because it looked so out of place.
As for the acting, I know Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan have plenty of fans, and both of them are undeniably good-looking. But visuals can only carry a drama so far. Zhang Linghe spends much of the series wearing the same brooding expression, while Wang Churan often feels more like she's modeling beautiful outfits than fully becoming her character. Their scenes together rarely feel natural. Instead of two people genuinely reacting to each other, it often feels like two actors waiting for their turn to say the next line.
And before anyone jumps to say, "You're just a hater," not really. I actually think it's important to talk honestly about these things. Being a fan doesn't mean pretending everything is perfect. If anything, constructive criticism is what helps actors, directors, and writers improve. Blind praise helps no one. Good performances deserve to be celebrated, and weak ones deserve to be acknowledged too. That's just part of appreciating dramas as a viewer.

I dropped the drama not because of the only production or director's fault
Yeah! I accept it is the director and production department fault for worst making...But it's not only them to blame; the lead actor and actress are equally responsible for this disaster. The core issue with their performance is that everything is just so overdone. There is no nuance, no subtlety—just exaggerated reactions, stiff body language, and forced chemistry that make it impossible to take the story seriously. It felt like they were trying way too hard in every single scene, which completely broke any immersion. While the director should have guided them better, as professional actors, they should know when to tone it down. Their severe overacting is ultimately what made me drop this. Was this review helpful to you?
