Overdo drama Is Wonderful ??
Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan's acting is solid. In my view, they delivered "top-tier" performances under very constrained conditions—especially Zhang Linghe, whose nuanced handling of complex emotions has drawn widespread praise. The drama tackles serious social issues like human trafficking and domestic violence, packing in one "high-energy" moment after another, with a fast pace that never drags. In that sense, the extreme close-ups in Overdo act like a "two-sided mirror": they validate the two leads' hardcore acting chops (swap in two less skilled actors and it would be an absolute disaster).
Rather than saying the director was trying to "recreate" an old-school feel, it feels more like he instinctively chose the most primitive, "crudest" method to foreground the actors' performances in this age of info-overload short dramas. This "atavistic" filming style inadvertently stirs our nostalgia for an era when productions were crafted with slow, meticulous care.
Today's dramas really can't replicate the past—because back then, it was about truly seeing, hearing, and feeling; lighting served the acting. Now, filters serve the looks, and camera work serves viral clip moments. Overdo is like a "tarnished bronze mirror"—what it reflects isn't the Republic of China era, but our collective wistfulness for the golden age of classic television dramas.

Worst Drama.. Playing with viewers
Dont waste your time to watch this drama... They literally take away your peace... They literally played with viewers emotions... Pathetic... No sense story line and ending is highly utter nonsense.... This can be a beautiful drama if they tried to rewrite the story line... They forceful create issues between leads and lastly killing the male lead which is unacceptable... Don't ever watch this... If you watch you will definitely regret.... If i have option to give negative star i might have givenWas this review helpful to you?

Not bad
I don't think this drama is that bad. After seeing the 6.9 rating, I almost decided to skip it because I expected it to be disappointing. Thankfully, I gave it a chance, and I'm really glad I did. While I wouldn't call it an outstanding or unforgettable drama, it's definitely much better than the rating suggests. The story isn't perfect, and there are moments where the pacing slows down or some scenes feel a little predictable. However, the overall plot is still engaging enough to keep me interested until the end. I never felt like dropping it because I genuinely wanted to know what would happen next. The characters also grew on me as the story progressed, and I found myself becoming emotionally invested in several of them.
The acting was decent overall. Some performances stood out more than others, but everyone did a good enough job to make the story believable. The chemistry between the main leads was enjoyable to watch, and there were quite a few heartwarming and emotional moments that made the drama worthwhile. The cinematography and soundtrack also complemented the mood of the story nicely.
Of course, this drama isn't flawless. There are a few clichés and certain plot developments could have been written better. If you're expecting a masterpiece or something groundbreaking, you might be disappointed. But if you're simply looking for an entertaining drama that is easy to watch and keeps you engaged, this one does the job very well.
In my opinion, a 6.9 rating is unfairly low. Is it a perfect 10? Definitely not. But I honestly think it deserves something around 7.5 to 8.0 because it's far more enjoyable than I expected. Sometimes ratings don't tell the whole story, and this drama is a good example of that. I'm really glad I watched it despite the low rating, and I don't regret spending my time on it. If you're hesitant because of the score, I'd say give it a chance, you might end up enjoying it more than you expect.
Enjoyy..

Really LOVE this drama ❤️
Please don't stop watching yet! Especially if you just watched it in the first 5 episode. Overdo is really very worth watching, in terms of story, ML/FL cast! Although so many complain by netizen about using AI in the intro and in the first 5 eps. (The production side has changed the intro to not AI anymore). But rest assured after the first 5 episodes everything will change! Only this drama that I can't skip because in every scene there is a key answer to all doubts. At the beginning, I also felt that this drama seemed to rush the story and not detailed, but I only understood it after the next episode. Therefore it is very worth watching. Believe me! And Zhang Linghe’s acting is really next level. His eyes can speak first before words 😍😍 Wang Churan also the best actress! Perfect combination 🙌

Fantastic
Overdo, I actually love this drama with loads of twists and turns in every episode. I thought every episode was very interesting and looked forward in watching the latest episode available. I am from Europe and I must say this is the kind dramas love to watch. This has be the no 1 drama for me in 2026. Acting was great from all the cast. Story is brilliant too, another masterpiece. Well done.I know they changed the start of the program due to AI but I feel this is something we will have to get use to in the future but AI needs to limited to certain categories.

My Honest Thoughts After episode seventeen
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm definitely one of the people who waited almost a year for Overdo. My expectations were through the roof. The cast, the Republican-era setting, the leaked stills, the costumes, the synopsis—everything made it feel like this was going to be a landmark C-drama.I was so invested that when it finally premiered, I was glued to the screen. Even after finishing 17 episodes, I couldn't bring myself to write anything because I kept hoping the next episode would give me that feeling I'd been waiting for. Unfortunately, it never did.
Don't get me wrong, Overdo isn't a very bad drama. But it's nowhere near the level I expected.
My biggest issue is the direction. It feels surprisingly weak. The dialogue doesn't leave much of an impact, the action choreography lacks intensity, there are too many plot holes, and the story feels like it's moving in circles instead of building momentum. The pacing isn't necessarily slow, but it rarely feels like it's progressing.
Visually, it's stunning. The cinematography, costumes, and overall aesthetic are beautiful. But for me, the soul is missing.
Zhang Linghe also deserved much better writing. The drama wants him to come across as this intimidating, charismatic figure, but the script doesn't support it. His dialogue and character moments just aren't strong enough. One of the few scenes that really worked for me was his confrontation with Old huo in Episode 7. That was the kind of intensity I wanted throughout the drama.
The relationship writing is another weak point. They keep pushing the leads apart and bringing them back together, but the emotional payoff never feels earned. Instead of making me more invested, it left me wondering where the story was actually going.
At times, it even feels like the drama is trying to recreate moments from other shows but it never lands with the same impact because the character writing isn't strong enough to sell it.
Maybe my expectations were simply too high, and that's on me. But when a drama builds this much anticipation, "good" or "average" just isn't enough. I wanted something unforgettable, and after 17 episodes, I'm mostly left feeling disappointed.

Could be better
The drama had great potential to turn into something amazing, especially since it's set in an era that many people love watching stories about, with so much room for creative ideas. However, the director and screenwriter ruined the concept with overly dramatic, Bollywood-style exaggeration—where one bullet kills, another does nothing, and a single hero takes down a hundred men."Is there anyone from the cast who didn't die besides Ren Susu?! The writer desperately needs therapy, they're in a really bad place. What a total waste of time watching this drama—the amount of gloominess reached an absurd level. The lead characters got exhausted from constantly visiting graves, every two minutes someone else dies. I honestly don't mind if one of the main leads dies as long as it's written well and serves the plot, but EVERYONE died?! Not a single couple made it to the end, it's way too much. Literally no one got to live a normal life, IT'S SO OVER THE TOP!"
The casting for the female lead was terrible—a complete wooden actress with zero acting skills. The male lead was literally carrying the whole show on his back. The female lead was written as an incredibly selfish character in a toxic relationship, constantly dragging him down, using him, and leaving him in pain every single time. At times, I found myself getting frustrated with the male lead—wondering why he was so in love with someone who clearly used him, and why he chose to believe her lies just to feel a fleeting moment of comfort, fully aware that she was lying. But later on, I truly understood his character: having grown up without affection, love, or protection as a child, she gave him a few months of love, only to drain that love from him over years of torment. Also he is the one he got the worst ending.
Watching this series was an absolute a waste of time.

PEAK -- MUST WATCH
**⭐ 9.5/10***Overdo* is one of the best romance C-dramas I've watched. The emotional angst, yearning, and forbidden romance were beautifully executed, making it impossible not to root for Ren Susu and Murong Qingyi. Their chemistry was incredible, and every sacrifice, reunion, and misunderstanding carried real emotional weight. Murong Qingyi is easily one of my favorite male leads—devoted, protective, and unforgettable. The only reason I didn't give it a perfect 10 is because a few plot points felt slightly rushed and it was clear that AI was used making it a low budget release. Other than that, it was an emotional roller coaster that I'll definitely remember for a long time.
