Definitely Worth the hype
I honestly don't know why people are rating this drama so low. Please don't let the ratings stop you from watching it. At the end of the day, people are always going to have different opinions, and no matter what a drama does, someone will still find something to complain about.This drama was absolutely worth watching, and I personally enjoyed it a lot. One of the things I loved most was the plot twists. They kept me interested and made the story feel fresh. As someone who watches a lot of zombie dramas, I can confidently say this one felt different from many of the others I've seen, and that's what made it stand out for me.
I'm not usually the type to write reviews. I normally watch a drama and move on to the next one, but this time I felt compelled to leave a comment because I genuinely don't regret spending my time on it.
I don't want to leave any spoilers, but the acting was top-notch. The cast did an amazing job bringing their characters to life, and the emotions felt believable throughout the drama. The pacing kept me engaged, and I found myself wanting to know what would happen next.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience from start to finish and would definitely recommend giving it a chance instead of relying solely on the ratings.

Colony VS Colony
Not perfect but very, very good. I can say that the film is very tense and exciting despite the predictable and unoriginal resolution regarding the threat of the zombie colony. We can call them zombies, although they’re based on a slightly different concept. Production-wise, the behaviour of these “zombies” is shown in a very attractive way. Their movements are unnatural, but in a way I haven’t seen in any other movie before — and I really liked that.Opposite the zombie colony, we have a group of people who could also be called a colony, because they too must work in sync and together to survive. However, with humans that coordination works a bit less smoothly than with zombies. That element of the challenge in human cooperation was my favourite part of the film.
A few scenes weren’t perfectly developed or edited, but I can’t really nitpick because I got exactly the kind of movie I like: a tense story with a serious survival threat and themes of humanity and human nature that leave plenty to think about and discuss.
P.S. I had the luck to watch this in a cinema in Korea and it was funny to see people running in and out of the theatre for toilet breaks because they didn’t want to miss anything from the movie. A satisfactory summer blockbuster from Korea.

It had it's own uniqueness despite having the typical virus outbreak situation.
As a fan of apocalyptic movies, I already knew that I was gonna like this movie a lot. Although it has the typical virus outbreak kind of situation with survivors trapped inside a building fighting to survive and waiting to get rescued, it had it's own kind of uniqueness which is pretty self explanatory but I'll still state it. The way the infected people were acting, doing that information exchange and later on evolving. First they went and attacked on all fours then gradually evolved and started walking and running. They were damn scary while going through that evolution phase. What intrigued me the most has got to be Young Chul, the antagonist of the movie. I loved how psychopathic he was, the way he controlled the zombies and moved them round. He was a cool villain I gotta say. As much as I loved Professor Kwon Se-jeong, my favourite character has got to be Young Chul. Loved his acting from beginning to the end. The power he showed in that situation, the way he was walking among the zombies, unaffected by anything and just maintaining that villainous smile LIKE GODDAMNNN I feel like I fell in love with him. The actor did a really great job playing that role. To be honest, in my opinion I think to survive in a situation like this, one needs intellectual power more than physical power. Obviously you need to fight too but it's like a 55% intellectual power and 45% physical power. Kwon Se-jeong was amazing in the second half of the movie. The way she used her wit and fought with Young Chul. Hats off to her really. Overall, I really really enjoyed this movie 💯Was this review helpful to you?
Another Zombie Thriller - Nothing New, Nothing Bad
Colony is a standard zombie thriller, with the twist of a bio-weapon outbreak. The familiar character types are all present: the brave-ones who lead the group, the scared ones who you know will make a mistake and harm others, another pair related as family and bringing in the emotional angle, the selfish ones who will do anything to surviveThe main draw is the cast. Gianna Jun provides presence, Ji Chang Wook leans into his action persona, and Koo Kyo-hwan delivers a strong antagonist performance.
Technically, the film is competent—suspenseful pacing, solid acting, effective makeup, and visual effects. However, it offers little that feels new or distinctive.
Overall, Colony is a well-made but conventional entry in the genre. It works as a one-time watch for fans of outbreak thrillers, but it is not especially memorable.

A Visually Intense Zombie Thriller That Brings Something New
This film makes a debut with lots of expectations since it was created by same director as "Train to Busan," the first Korean zombie movie that wowed the audience around the world.What I really like about "Colony," is how zombies are different than any zombie movies I have ever seen. It shows a wide range of interesting abilities instead of just being "infected" by some sort of virus. There is a decent exposition and a back story. From smell to vision to intelligence, they get creative and stronger as time passes by.
The downside of this film compared to the successor is the lack of a powerful side character who always confronts zombies fearlessly. I am not saying a female protagonist is the issue as she does an excellent job fighting zombies by utilizing her knowledge as a professor in human/animal biology. It is just the antagonist and the zombies are a bit overpowering in this one.
I recommend this movie to all the sci-fi and zombie lovers as it is not only fast-paced, but it is also filled with actions, theories, and most importantly, freaky visuals and sounds.

mediocrity
Director Yeon Sang-ho made zombie cinema history a decade ago with Train to Busan, but his return to the genre with Colony feels like a massive step backward. Despite a stellar cast and a promising twist on the undead, the film is ultimately mediocre through and through..............................................

New Twist But Still Another Zombie Movie
I rarely enjoy zombie movies and dramas and unfortunately this one is no exception. The reason being they all end up looking very similar.I went in this blind but I will give them credit for trying to create something new this time and altering the zombie behaviour a bit more. It couldn't save the movie even with an ensemble cast. The main problem being that we couldn't get much of a character development besides the female lead.
I do like that for a change a woman was allowed to outsmart men and that most of the best characters were women.

little generic, but good
there are three really great actors in this that i’ve watched thier works and this wouldn’t be in the top of all thier works, but it comes out to be a good movie. there are some points where the generic and plausible things happen and characters make the typical decisions made in these zombie movies and dramas, but it wasn’t too over the top and something that wasn’t able to be moved from.Was this review helpful to you?
Good...But Fast
This movie was far from a slow-paced filler. Point-on-point action... it feels like you have no time to think about the first plot before the next one is already here. I'm only guessing, but this was probably done due to movie time constraints, theaters, etc.Besides that, a good zombie movie with a cool twist. "Your Bluetooth device has connected."
Summary: A good, fast watch... lots of action, but no tear-bringer or heavy character building. Great cast carrying the scenes. Overall, in the future, please just use the windows... could have ended the movie in 10 minutes.

J'adore les films de zombies
Je l'attendais avec impatience. Enfin un nouveau film de zombies. Le film apporte quelques nouveautés au genre mais garde une bonne proportion de clichés (bully culture, politique qui n'écoute pas, le sacrifice du pseudo héros, le personnage qui tape sur le système et incapable de se sauver seul...). J'ai quand même été captivée pendant les 2h de film. Koo Kyo-Hwan est magistral dans son rôle de scientifique fou. Petite palme à Ji Chang-Wook et son retournement de veste. A real enjoyable gore and zombie film!
Good :- Power house casting. Jun Ji Hyun and Koo Kyun Hwan carried the film to the last minute. Ji Chang Wook and Go Soo were limited by character development story and very one face character.
- Zombies are great! The body twists, cracking, eyes bulging & the muscus (ewww~~!)! Even better than Train to Busan. They are the stars of the movie!
- The props and building preparation is very good as well.
Lacking :
- Story depth. Too many characters to focus on. Not enough time for even a scratch on the surface for most characters. Even the villian story is barely reasonable for the cause.
- Waste of actors talent. Ji Chang Wook, Kim Shin Rock，Kim Jong Tae, Shin Hyun Been and etc are all immensely talented actors wasted on subpar characters. It is almost like they are just there for the sake of power house casting.
- Monkeys CGI is the worse cgi I seen in a while in 2026. Lol...
Watch for the zombies!
Watch for the make up and sound/visual effects!
Watch for Koo and Jun acting!
Overall, a solid weekend movie. KUDOS!

Upgraded Korean Zombies, proceed with caution!
What started as a job hunting by Professor Kwon Sejeong turned into a survival of the fittest race when the biotechnology seminar that she attended is attacked with a bio-weapon. A former employee of the company holding the seminar, Seo Yeongcheol, had turned the whole building into a quarantined area when he injected a pathogen into the CEO, turning him into a zombie that started a chain of scrambling and biting of the rest of the building’s patrons. Amid the chaos, Prof Kwon with her ex husband and a number of people managed to hide inside a shop. A police detective who is holed up with them revealed that the rescue team will not attempt any pickup unless they bring the vaccine out, which turned out to be the sacked employee, Seo Yeongcheol.Dangit, when i thought Korean zombie being as fit as Olympic athlete had been scary enough, they then decided to up their game by having them hyper zombies able to read each others mind like a colony of ants! That is like being monitored by thousands of CCTV wherever you go, cuz the zombies that can use computers, handphones and assault rifles are everywhere. How scary is that? Not only are they quick at adapting to their surroundings, they’re also being collectively controlled by the king ant, the zero patient who is very much a high-functioning human being. I am so glad this is only a movie, cuz a prolong 8-10episodes of survival game against such creatures wouldve been too much for me. 🫣
The FL isnt nimble, athletic or possesses any martial ability, but she is one helluva brilliant professor, being able to read and analyze how the zombies function hence providing enough intel for the group of survivors to outmaneouvre them. Our usually badass Ji Changwook is just a security guard here, no special skills or fancy martial moves but he is in total control of his knife when pushed close enough to the edge.
The main villain, Seo Yeongcheol is portrayed to have one pretty twisted mind, something he acquired from a life-long trauma of losing his father in his childhood and being rejected by his boss in his adulthood. He is insanely unhinged, ready to disregard humanity in the name of evolution to creating a better communicative world.
Usually in apocalypse-zombie shows, the authority roles are usually upright, honest and responsible. Well, it is a total opposite here in the show. The detective, the professors, the minister, the police force, are all devoid of humanity very much like the zombies, really, the only thing different between them and the infecteds is their still functioning brain. They have no qualm of leaving citizens behind to the infecteds, as long as they get a hold of the vaccine. Truly detestable, but I would think that is actually the reality if this ever comes true.
Honestly this is one of the pieces that i feel more fitting to be expanded into a miniseries, like 3-4 episodes like how The Tyrant was done. The story felt too abruptly end with just less than 2.5 hours under its belt. I’d really like to see more of Ji Changwook in action, really.
The music score is brilliant by the way. The eerie sound whenever the zombies are getting ‘synchronized’ is truly creepy. I really like when theyre ‘sync’ing with each other, totally giving off what-are-they-up-to-now kind of vibe. Made the hair at the back of my neck stand, by the way.
