How can an interesting concept become so boring

When I saw the trailer, I thought it was going to be some adrenaline rush Train to Busan kind of movie, but it turned out to be nothing like that.
The concept and premise was nice-mall, hive mindset, group of strangers, the generic cliche with something new, however, the director and the writer totally bombed the story in the worst possible way.
They killed the ex husband in the first half an hour which was so expected, like why. I didn't even felt bad because we couldn't even make connections to him. His family's reaction, wife and ex wife was also so lukewarm.
The characters were stupid. I think if you are making zombie movie in 2026, the characters should know what they should do since in their world also many zombie movies have come. They frozen in the worst spot, took the most stupid route and died.
I really felt this was going to be like the strangers group who work together like a team. Do we have make them stupid and narcissist in order for them to die and make scenes interesting. Like in Train to Busan, the og group were loyal to each other and still died and it felt more saddening because it was like they did everything they could but didn't won. Here it felt like, they wanted to die anyway. Their acting was bad too. The dialogues, god who wrote them. I not sure if it was translation issue or bad writing, but the dialogues were so... Unheavy? Light. Like it had no emotions.
Ugggghhh
So stupid.
Let's hope, HOPE does better than this because this sucks.
If you want to watch something zombie related that doesn't boil your blood because of stupidity, watch Happiness or Train to Busan.

Good take on an old classic genre

I'm not normally a fan of the zombie genre (leave that to the vampires) but waited in anticipation for this film as they're normally done better outside of the western market. And I wasn't disappointed. It was fast paced and for me, not long enough - almost as if, it was only just getting started before it finished - I wonder if there will be a Colony 2.

I wasn't interested in any emotional bonding or back stories of the characters, I wasn't there to see a family drama so the extremely brief, 'bullying' back story in my opinion was utterly pointless and who cares?! You're trapped in a building where most people are rabid zombies within seconds, becoming more intelligent by the minute, and you're running for your life - 'ain't no-one got time for heart to hearts!!

The plot was engaging, trying to find the solution, the missing link, and the continual evolution of the zombies, that would have been interesting to see how far that could have progressed but, as I said, it ended far too soon with far more potential to explore.

Good acting especially by the zombies!

Do you know what a whole bunch of ants living together is called?

Let’s set the stage. A “zombie” like plaque erupts in the confines of a huge building , much like the workings of an ant farm. The infected create complex tunnels where they can hunt and communicate through touch, sight, and sound. But they’re also really dumb, like a hive mind relying on a sole power to lead them. But it's still your sort of typical biting and ravenous zombies.

Just like it’s said about how the movie 28 Days Later isn’t technically zombies, they’re actually infected with rage. This is sort of the same, but thinking outside of the box, more like the movie World War Z. These “zombies” are more like ant soldiers following direct orders. Which is actually really cool.

Admittedly Korean Zombies are my favorite, and Colony makes them even more scary and bad ass, but also laughable, in a really awesome way though.

For any Zombie movie fan, and especially those that like evolutionist revisions of “zombies”, this is totally worth your time.

As a side note, and this is a real spoiler. Could Ji Chang Wook please play a character that isn’t a total red flag or dies just once in while? He’s like my Korean Leonardo DiCaprio whose characters more often wind up with tragic ends than not.

watched it for my queen jihyun

Overall there’s not much to say, it wasn’t anything that’s never done before or a revolutionary zombie movie. The one main thing I looked at, was that its entertaining. And while it was, it was also a little boring at times.

However I watched it with a friend and it does make a difference, it’s immediately more fun with a friend than alone.

I think the characters kept making some stupid mistakes which of course, needed to have plot but my god- these are cops and intelligent people we’re working with, how are THEY making those rookie mistakes?😭

Anyway I don’t have much else to say. I wish we were told what happens next to the infected and I wasn’t too entirely fond of the ending, but I’m guessing it’s a set up for the second movie.

Either way, they have a damn good cast and I would be tuning in again if a second movie were to come out.

So all in all, it’s a pretty mediocre zombie movie, nothing crazy new or exciting. But it’s a good cast so that’s a major plus.

Not the best, but still interesting

My first impression was actually pretty good, but for some reason I started to lose interest in the second half. The premise is really interesting, and for a while it feels like it's going to do something different, but then it falls into the usual zombie movie cliches and becomes pretty predictable. The idea is definitely there, it just wasn't executed that well imp.
On the other hand, the cast was great, and so were their performances. They're probably one of the main reasons the movie is worth watching.
I guess It's a fun watch, but at the end of the day it's just another zombie movie and not much more than that. I'd still recommend giving it a try and judging it for yourself.

A zombie movie that will make you reflect.

A great watch inside of the cinema!

The creator/s packed this film with all the ingredients a movie needs to succeed. A death of a good character for someone not worthy, a smart lead, a strong lead, characters you would root for to survive, characters you would root for to trip and die, circumstances that made you clutch your friend beside you... Colony's formula might not be unique but the execution, for me, was one slap away from being fantastic (if you watched it, I think you know whose bully's ass' deserved to be b*tched slapped, I know everyone I watched it with was hoping for it to happen). They stuck to their plan and it landed well.

Most importantly, Colony isn't just a zombie movie that is all thrill and jump scare, at the core of it, the movie conveys multiple messages and truths to its audience. Humans, like any animals are just animals: it's one for all, until self preservation says it's all for one. There are many, but what struck me the most, based on my own interpretation of what was shown on screen, was something that reflects where I currently am. People, especially, when it comes to politics have this hive mind. They would defer to their number 1 like brain dead zombies, until they end up spinning round and round until all that's left are shells. It's really important to think on your own, humans, have their own brain, they should use their own brains and form their own thoughts end decide what they, as an individual should do.

It's funny to me how this movie, showed that one character Koo Kyo-Hwan’s character wants to connect all minds for everyone to get the same exact message with all the feels and nuances to avoid miscommunication, because I feel like, social media is just one step away from controlling us this way…
