What surprised me most, however, wasn't the horror. In a genre that often sidelines female characters, Colony gives them the emotional core of the story. Jun Ji-hyun delivers a commanding performance as Se-jeong, portraying a heroine who is intelligent, resourceful, and resilient without ever feeling invincible. She's joined by equally memorable female characters who each contribute to the group's survival in meaningful ways. Rather than existing as damsels in distress or supporting figures, the women are problem-solvers, protectors, and emotional anchors whose decisions genuinely shape the narrative.
The film isn't perfect. Some supporting characters could have benefited from more development, and the emphasis on relentless action occasionally comes at the expense of deeper emotional moments. Still, the suspense is consistently gripping, the set pieces are inventive, and Yeon Sang-ho once again demonstrates why he's one of the most exciting filmmakers working in the zombie genre today.
If you're looking for a zombie thriller with creative ideas, pulse-pounding action, and female protagonists who stand out through their intelligence, courage, and determination, Colony is an easy recommendation. It doesn't try to be another Train to Busan, it evolves into something uniquely its own.

Like a Marionette in a Shadow Puppet Show: Superb Mutation Dynamics
The way KKH's character controlled the infected felt like manipulating a marionette in a shadow puppet show. At first, it seemed entirely different from any zombie mutation I’ve ever seen in movies or dramas—like it was on a whole other level. However, the mutations involving hearing and speaking, moving from walking on all fours to standing upright, and even mimicking the uninfected by doing exactly as they do and also reading what was on phones and computers felt strikingly superb and unexpected. Was this review helpful to you?
The film's pace is too fast.
Honestly, I don't like zombie movies where the zombies spread too quickly. It's just so illogical. So far, in my opinion, the best zombie dramas are still Kingdom and Happiness. The idea of this film is very good, but i think if given a good storyline and a more natural spread of the virus this movie would be really cool. Was this review helpful to you?

NOT UR AVERAGE BRAINLESS ZOMBIE!!
Bro I just started this movie with zero expectations and it absolutely blew my mind like on the surface it looks like a typical zombie flick but it is so so far from ordinary... it's a masterpiece.. completely took me off guard in the best possible way.. the whole narrative structure the smooth transitions between different phases and overall plot is insanely wild and well planned... what really blew my mind was the concept behind why the virus was created in the first place.. suh yeong chul.. his absolute desperation for that perfect communication and his whole mindset give the story such a unique depth.. instead of giving us brainless creatures that can be easily fooled in most zombie survival movies.. these infected actually function through this terrifying Wi-Fi type of network operating under a single leader who controls and directs them all and on top of that he was portrayed so well his presence his overall aura made him feel like a genuine powerful threat rather than a normal villain.. literally this movie actually gave the antagonist real intelligence and control and honestly it had so much potential and was delivered on every level... and the the pacing was also delivered amazingly.. its amazing the way they took a tired genre and turned it into this absolute masterpieceWas this review helpful to you?

This was a movie that caught my attention. I liked the atmosphere and the way the story slowly developed. It kept me curious about what would happen next, and I enjoyed the different twists along the way. 🤍✨
Not perfect, but definitely worth watching if you enjoy something a little different. 📺🌸

Wrong FL
As a fan of the horror/thriller genre, I found this movie pretty basic. The FL is supposed to be a strong, smart and brave character, but I don't think the actress was the best fit for the role. Her facial expressions and voice delivery often felt unconvincing, which made some scenes less effective. On the other hand, the actor playing the villain did a much better job and fit the role well. I think the casting would have worked better if the leads had been chosen based more on acting ability and suitability for the roles rather than popularity. *Btw the bichi girl should've died first. Why movie makers still use those type of characters in 2026?! No more after 부산행! It's getting annoying"Was this review helpful to you?

Don't watch unless you want to watch a brain dead zombied movie
TLRD: Colony take a unique approach to the zombie genre, unique in that aspect but it fall flat in every other aspect.Main lead: suppose to be smart, but does nothing smart in the show, every she does was off a guess.
Ending: Worst ending I seen so far, the villain was smart, but die to plot.
Don't waste you time unless you want to see some mid shit.

How can an interesting concept become so boring
BoringWhen I saw the trailer, I thought it was going to be some adrenaline rush Train to Busan kind of movie, but it turned out to be nothing like that.
The concept and premise was nice-mall, hive mindset, group of strangers, the generic cliche with something new, however, the director and the writer totally bombed the story in the worst possible way.
They killed the ex husband in the first half an hour which was so expected, like why. I didn't even felt bad because we couldn't even make connections to him. His family's reaction, wife and ex wife was also so lukewarm.
The characters were stupid. I think if you are making zombie movie in 2026, the characters should know what they should do since in their world also many zombie movies have come. They frozen in the worst spot, took the most stupid route and died.
I really felt this was going to be like the strangers group who work together like a team. Do we have make them stupid and narcissist in order for them to die and make scenes interesting. Like in Train to Busan, the og group were loyal to each other and still died and it felt more saddening because it was like they did everything they could but didn't won. Here it felt like, they wanted to die anyway. Their acting was bad too. The dialogues, god who wrote them. I not sure if it was translation issue or bad writing, but the dialogues were so... Unheavy? Light. Like it had no emotions.
Ugggghhh
So stupid.
Let's hope, HOPE does better than this because this sucks.
If you want to watch something zombie related that doesn't boil your blood because of stupidity, watch Happiness or Train to Busan.

Good take on an old classic genre
I'm not normally a fan of the zombie genre (leave that to the vampires) but waited in anticipation for this film as they're normally done better outside of the western market. And I wasn't disappointed. It was fast paced and for me, not long enough - almost as if, it was only just getting started before it finished - I wonder if there will be a Colony 2.I wasn't interested in any emotional bonding or back stories of the characters, I wasn't there to see a family drama so the extremely brief, 'bullying' back story in my opinion was utterly pointless and who cares?! You're trapped in a building where most people are rabid zombies within seconds, becoming more intelligent by the minute, and you're running for your life - 'ain't no-one got time for heart to hearts!!
The plot was engaging, trying to find the solution, the missing link, and the continual evolution of the zombies, that would have been interesting to see how far that could have progressed but, as I said, it ended far too soon with far more potential to explore.
Good acting especially by the zombies!

IF YOU ARE WATCHING IT FOR JCW
son....what was that , i f you are watching it for JCW drop it , he has nothing to do with plot they just marketed him so bad , his character has so much potential to end up dead . Plot was like any other zombie move , some idotic element , same betrayal , coward , female lead was great , i would prefer happiness thousand times over it ....Was this review helpful to you?
Not the best, but still interesting
My first impression was actually pretty good, but for some reason I started to lose interest in the second half. The premise is really interesting, and for a while it feels like it's going to do something different, but then it falls into the usual zombie movie cliches and becomes pretty predictable. The idea is definitely there, it just wasn't executed that well imp.On the other hand, the cast was great, and so were their performances. They're probably one of the main reasons the movie is worth watching.
I guess It's a fun watch, but at the end of the day it's just another zombie movie and not much more than that. I'd still recommend giving it a try and judging it for yourself.
