Loving all these theories haha

Athens:
1) FML and ML will divorce at some point (maybe in the end, where we will get the stupid cliche of them separated)
2) ML will change the law to allow FML to work when married to him
3) He will also change the law and impose a "minimum age"" to someone to be a king. This will allow his nephew to have a normal life before things start to get chaotic. And he will be the king at this time.

yep seems like the most obvious endings

Jovana Du:

I-An was to angry about the marriage, the truth behind it must be something really bad.

There is also the part where Hui Ju's sister in law says that if divorce in the Royal Family was possible, the I-An would be the King. Maybe the I-An brother was in love with somebody else.

But something I don't get is why the Queen Mother got so angry with I-An when the fired happened in EP 01, it's almost like she was blaming him for the fire that killed the previous King

Maybe it was an open secret that the former king did not want to marry the Queen mother, at least in noble circles. When she says “if divorce in the royal family was possible, Ian would be king.” If the former king had divorced the Queen mother before she got pregnant, and they had no heirs before his death, then Ian would be next in line for the throne.

lovegrace24:

Okay here are my theories after watching ep 3 & 4:

  1. I-An had feelings for Huiju since high school, but he's trying to play it cool even though he really likes her. The royal family never divorces, and he doesn't intend to divorce her either hehehe

  2. The Queen Dowager's father is the one that killed the king and she's going to flip when she finds out because until now, she seems to suspect I-An killed his own brother for the throne.

  3. I think I-An was angry at his brother for doing something that was wrong, hence why he threatened him on his wedding day. But besides anger, he was afraid that if his brother kept going down that road that he would die surrounded by enemies which is probably what happened. Most likely I-An's parents were murdered too.

  4. I think I-An and Huiju will get revenge for the royal family, get rid of their enemies and protect the baby king, then live happily ever after.

About #2, I think the Queen mother believes she started the fire. Her anger is misplaced guilt and projection IMO. In reality, I think he either killed himself or someone else killed him, maybe the Queen mother’s father idk. Is there any chance the Prime Minister killed the former king? I don’t really think so, but it would be such a plot twist haha. So far, I love the Prime minister, so I hope he is not involved in anything nefarious.

BWS keeps reiterating in interviews that there will be big twists🤔 The queen's father being bad and behind some of the plots would not be surprising at all. I mean we all know Jinmu. I'm sure thats part of why they cast him lol.

About the PM. I think its been made clear that he will clash with Ian because of his feelings for Hui Ju. But it would be cool if there was more to it. Him being involved in the fire that killed the last king might be a long shot, but it would be a super bold move writing-wise.

I'm not sure what his motivation would be (afraid of the crowns power even though they technically have none?), but it would be endlessly more interesting than him just pining for Hui Ju for 10+ years and then being petty when she falls for someone else. At least I think so

Do you remember that scene with the “premarital pregnancy tantrum”? I have a theory: I think the Queen was already pregnant with the then Crown Prince, and only afterwards did they get married. That could potentially raise questions about the legitimacy of their child and whether he truly has the right to become king.

I just hope one of the twist the ml keeps talking about is that prime minister turns out be a bad guy

Don't ask me how I know, but I predict the prince bride will be kidnapped by a giant, a swashbuckling pirate, and a genius!

My theory is about the past accidents/deaths-

I think ML's brother/the previous king was not killed by that paper which was lit by his wife. I also don't think her father Lord Yun killed his son in law. My guess is SML's family did that.

Reasons:

  • This is a constitutional monarchy where powers of the palace is supposed to be ceremonial. But we are told even after this Grand Prince/ML has considerable power owing to his appeal in the country. SML's family have been serving as the head of the government since generations. What if they feared return of the monarchial rule, and power shifting from their hands.

  • They might be the ones who killed ML's mother. We were told she was returning from some event, maybe she was gaining too much popularity, which was fearsome from the standpoint of SML's family. Killing her made the king always furious( we saw how he reacted in front of his children), hence weakening him.

  • The Crown Prince who became the next King (ML's brother) was a timid person. To control him was very easy for SML. But crown prince decided to leave the throne. If he left the throne, it would have gone to his brother. ML was a charismatic man, with high appeal in the country. SML and his family might be threatened by him. It would be very difficult to control ML. But if ML's brother died before leaving the throne to ML, through natural succession, the throne would be passed down to ML's nephew. A 8 year old is easier to control. Plus Queen Mother along with her family would be constantly at odds with ML, making it easier for checks and balances, thus power not in the hands of any one person of the monarchy.

Why I thought about this-

So Lord Yun is popularly known as JinMu (from Alchemy of Souls) where he was the villain. From the second episode in this drama, the makers have constantly tried to show that Lord Yun is bad, has a villainous aura, is plotting. I mean I felt the makers are trying to divert our full attention to Lord Yun and his daughter Queen Mother. Its easier for the audience to doubt him due to his past characters. Yes he may not be a very good man, maybe he has his goals, but I don't think he killed his own son in law.

SML on the other hand is shown as a good person friends with both the leads, a charismatic young man, whom no one doubts. But there were 3 scenes where I doubted him-

  • During that meeting where he told ML to accept he is dating FL, but keep marriage out of scene. Now yes, he is in love with FL so doing this makes sense, but I don't know he seemed to have thought a lot before saying this, it kind of sounded planned, he was rigid in what he did, and was able to succeed.

  • That chess game with ML, the check mate part, umm it was just not a normal game there were hidden meanings, but I don't know if ML would have understood it or not.

  • The scene where Baby King played with FL, and SML told King's nanny only if being king had an age limit. The Nanny looked shocked at him because that was kind of traitorous thing to say. Yup we can say SML said that genuinely but the conversation was really off putting for me.

Now this is a romcom with political intrigue. Its possible its too direct, and its Lord Yun who is responsible as indicated from the very first, and SML is just someone who is a friend and one sided lover of FL. But I don't know why but I want to doubt SML. If the drama decides to bring a plot twist, he is the easiest way to do so, considering he will be the biggest betrayer, because both ML and FL trust him.

That could potentially raise questions about the legitimacy of their child and whether he truly has the right to become king.

If you are saying that the current baby king was conceived before the marriage of his parents, then I don't think its possible. ML's mother died in 2006 and his father died 7 years later, hence in 2013 (both said by the court lady in ep 4 when she was explaining details to FL). We were also shown a flashback scene when Lord Yun was helping the then crown prince (ML's brother) to get ready for his marriage to Lord Yun's daughter when ML suddenly barged in and held his brother's collars. At that time ML's brother wasn't the king he was a crown prince, Lord Yun even said threatened he would complain about the incident to the King (ML's dad). So the marriage must have happened in 2012-2013 before ML's dad died.

That means the previous King and Queen Mother got married at least 13 years before. But the age of the Baby king now is 8 years. Hence its not possible for him to be conceived before marriage.

Do we know the background of the Prime minister? Someone said that he comes from a political family, was that stated in the show? We know he went to the royal academy, but I missed any talk about his family background.

Yes. The production provided character descriptions for the main characters. These are available from the Cast page by clicking the character name. Here is the one for Min Jeong U:

Guyssssss the queen dowager has a thing for prince I an that's the reason she was aggressive when he said that he loves hi ju and she blushed when she saw his abs in that hotel room.

So I read through all the character descriptions after someone in the thread mentioned it. Hyeon, the Prince’s aide, is described as an orphan that was left at the Prince’s doorstep. Isn’t that so suspicious? Is there any chance Hyeon is an illegitimate member of the royal family?
