Yu Shu Lang is the Greatest BL Character in Existence!
I love this character! He is the first "good" character who is not an idiot. He may have been deceived for a time, but not because he was foolish, but rather because he was fooled. He is intelligent, strong, and resolute. You really feel for him, but don't have to pity him. He is no pushover and although he is moral, he is not angelic all the time. If only all "good" characters were written this insightfully. He has everything a character needs to be not only sympathetic, but admirable without being "other-worldly" or beyond belief. I love how he keeps his word and I love how dignified he is. Honestly, the greatest BL character and one of the best-written characters of all time. Was this review helpful to you?

The best BL ever!
In my opinion this is the best BL of all time. I’ve rewatched it 3 times already. It’s that good. This show isn’t for everyone & if you are triggered easily I wouldn’t recommend it. But if like red flags, manipulation, a little bit of sweetness then you’ll love this show. I’m glad Fan Xiao somewhat grew up & realized how much he hurt You Shulang. I’m also glad they got their happily ever after & even got married in the special episode. Was this review helpful to you?
MASTERPIECE
I filled two buckets of tears. The story. The plot. The twist. The characters. The acting. I can’t explain the feeling. I thought it would be another BL drama but it was more than this. I find new dramas to watch and say oh this is the best drama ever, I’m going to rewatch it again. No! This drama will keep replying in my head forever and ever.
I stayed up all night watching it. I wish it showed up on my for you page forever ago.

This one is dark, heavy, emotionally intense... and that’s exactly what makes it so powerful!!
From the beginning, Fan Xiao and Shulang’s relationship is marked by imbalance. Fan Xiao carries violence, trauma, and emotional restraint; he exists in the shadows, hardened by the world around him. Shulang, on the other hand, feels almost unreal — gentle, patient, and quietly kind in a way that contrasts sharply with Fan Xiao’s darkness. What makes this story so compelling is how love becomes a force of transformation. Fan Xiao doesn’t change overnight, and the series never romanticizes his darkness. Instead, it shows change as something slow, painful, and reluctant. Shulang doesn’t “save” him in a cliché way — he softens him, simply by existing, by staying, by offering compassion where Fan Xiao only knew brutality.
This is where the symbolism of Shulang being called a Bodhisattva becomes essential to the story — and also deeply ironic. In Buddhism, a Bodhisattva is someone who reaches enlightenment but chooses to remain in the world to relieve the suffering of others. Fan Xiao admires Shulang for this, but at the same time, he resents it. He hates that part of Shulang exactly because he doesn’t believe it can be real. Deep down, Fan Xiao knows that not even his Bodhisattva could save him, and that belief becomes one of the greatest conflicts within him.
Their love is quite devastating. It lives in silences, in restrained emotions, in the tension between wanting to protect and fearing to destroy. The cinematography, the melancholic OST, and the pacing all enhance this atmosphere, making every interaction feel heavy with meaning.
This is a story about love as redemption, about darkness meeting compassion, and about how sometimes, the softest presence can be the most powerful. And one of my favorites!!!

The biggest black flag in BL existence
Damn. I had thought Chi Cheng and Hua Yong were toxic and unhinged, but they pale in comparison to Fan Xiao – this man is the ultimate black flag! Here’s the thing: I loved the series overall. The plot is well-crafted, though I do question some decisions made in the series finale. The actors do an incredible job of portraying these very damaged characters with raw and vulnerable emotions. I was so invested that I could hardly watch anything else because I wanted to see the story through to the end.
I adored Yun Qi and Hao Yi Ran; they have amazing chemistry. Their characters, while making decisions I often disagreed with, were powerful, interesting, and immensely complex.
However, I couldn’t rate this series higher because, ultimately, I also hated it. As a romance drama, I expected it to touch our hearts, make us swoon, and serve as a source of comfort at the end of the day. Instead, To My Shore did the opposite. I felt stressed, triggered, and heartbroken throughout. By the end, I wasn’t rooting for the main leads to end up together; I wanted You Shu Lang to move on and leave Fan Xiao to his own devices – because that’s what he deserved.
We often romanticise negative aspects of relationships just because two people look good together. However, let’s not forget that Fan Xiao manipulates, lies, and hurts others without any consideration for Shu Lang’s feelings or boundaries. He takes everything Shu Lang holds dear and turns it upside down for his own benefit. That is not what makes a good partner!
Moreover, I was confused about certain characters and their roles. Was Shi Li Hua a friend or foe? What was the deal with Xue Bao Tian? Did Uncle Xu hurt the Fan family after the engagement fell through? How did Tian Tian’s mother reconnect with You Shu Lang? Why was Bo Wen even involved? By the end, I was left with many questions and no answers, just as the couple gets together again and the series concludes.
So, overall, I have mixed feelings about To My Shore. The series is good and definitely deserves credit for its production quality, and the actors have done a fantastic job that warrants all the praise. But did I enjoy it? Would I re-watch it? I don’t know! I’m uncertain if I would even recommend it, as I fear it might do more harm than good.

Dark and twisted story with great acting, soundtrack, plot, chemistry & production.
I haven't been this invested in the story and characters in a bl since Revenged Love. Dark romance is my genre and To My Shore scratched all the itches in my brain and ticked all the boxes I've always wanted in a dark romance bl. 10/10 from me for great acting, great soundtrack, great plot, great chemistry and great production! Was this review helpful to you?
Psychological Drama not Romance
I will try my best to leave this review spoiler free but provide clear honest information about this drama. What I write today is different than my usual reviews. I am actually advising those who read this that To My Shore should come with trigger warnings but does not. This was a very well-made drama. Writing was tight. Characterizations insanely good. Side characters were interesting, but none were sympathetic. Music better than average. If you like to watch someone mentally destroy himself and others, this is the drama for you.
As someone who has experienced forms of psychological abuse by a romantic partner, I would be remiss if I agreed with the tag that this was a romance. It was mental and emotional abuse.
The last 15 minutes of episode 15 was a romance…..the rest….not so much.
The remaining 99.5% of this show is all about how Fan Xiao seeks to draw You Shu Lang into his control. Yes, his original intentions were to break his heart and send him on his merry way.
What proceeds is Fan Xiao’s untreated psychological trauma creating a very unhealthy obsessive-compulsive situation. By episode 12, You Shu Lang realizes himself there is no escape from Fan Xiao’s destructive behavior unless one of them dies (no neither of them die).
I’ll be honest, the abusive relationship was so uncomfortable and triggering, I had to forward over some parts.
Fan Xiao was portrayed by Yun Qi and if he isn’t already clinically insane, he did a masterful job showing what mental illness looks like. According to this website, he is only 23 years old and has done little to no work before this. If you want to see how trauma and too much money can mess you up, watch To My Shore just for his characterization.
Hao Yi Ran played You Shu Lang, the much-tortured main character. He also did a fantastic job. I read another reviewer who had said You Shu Lang worked very hard to make himself small so no one would notice him. That description fits him nicely. You Shu Lang was not weak by any stretch of the imagination. He was a survivalist at heart. No money and no power means go small for survival.
I hated every other character that graced the screen in this show, not a single one had any redeeming qualities, nor were they fun in their “bad” behavior. Only the two leads were marginally sympathetic.
Was this a masterpiece? I don’t know. I hate psychological dramas because of my own past. Why did I keep watching? The two leads were that good in drawing me into their story.
Will I rewatch this?
Only the last 15 minutes.
Should you watch this?
Only if you are NOT triggered by mental and verbal abuse.

Dark, toxic, flawed and wildly entertaining
This unhinged Chinese BL is a real guilty pleasure that made me go through a wild roller-coaster of emotions. Despite its final arc not meeting fully my expections, I had a such a good time watching this series ! The relationship build up was well paced and captivating with even the set up with business talks featuring interesting layers of the personality of the main characters.Fan Xiao with his obsessive and manipulative behavior might be one of the biggest red flag I have seen in dramaland making it very much impossible to actively root for the romance as you want Shu Lang to escape the trauma inflected on him by his partner and heal. Still, I was completely invested in their relationship and was always looking forward to see what was going to happen. Shu Lang, far for a damsel in distress, was a great character, with a strong backbone, making their story even more fascinating.
Both main actors did a very good job at playing those intense roles with some amazing heartbreaking scenes. Their chemistry was fiery and a big component in my enjoyment of the drama. The remainder of the cast did not really impressed me but it was alright overall, as they were mostly fading in the background of the intense romance.
I would recommend this to people that enjoy angsty and twisted romances. It has a lot of shaddy, muddy stuff and power imbalance, in the most gripping way. I was surprised at how good and intense it was : the traumas felt brutal and raws, characters being hurt so much. It is featuring a very unhealthy relationships with some elements that could be triggering and the last arc could definitely have been handled better, however the wild ride the story takes you on is worth it !

On The Edge of Your Seat Type Series
Prepare yourself for a rollercoaster of emotions and that is in each and every episode. How do you even begin. Fan is deeply flawed, traumatized, broken, loveless and hopeless in finding any happiness in his life... until he meets Yu. Yu is a red flag himself but all heart that protects those around him and doesn't purposely go out of his way to hurt those he cares for but don't be fooled he can bite back. Their meeting is by chance and Fan sees it as opportunity to play his twisted cruel games but this time it's different. Feelings of love are not comfortable for him because he's never really known it. in his attempt to be close to You he is destructive and toxic. This series is not for the faint of heart, you are going to need nerves of steel to get through it. But....it is on of the BEST CBL;s I have ever watched. You will believe it or not feel sorry for them both and cheer them on.Was this review helpful to you?
