Both are Japanese GL(Lesbian Romance from Japan). Both are a romance series but both also deal with some serious subjects too, however Ayaka-Hiroko is more of light hearted comedy and Call-me-by-no is darker and more serious in tone. They share one producer that worked on both series.

Both of these have sapphic couples with traumatic pasts at the heart of their stories. With different indie aspects to both of them, each offers a unique yet similar story revolving around university students.

These both have gorgeous cinematography, angst, uni students still haunted by traumas of their past, beautiful symbolism, and queer love.

These both have beautiful posters, toxic queer love, and great and creative cinematography. Only on episode 1 so far, but I couldn't help but think of this while watching.

Both start off with a love interest literally found in the trash. Said love interest then moves in with the person who finds them. They also both feature protagonists who have or do sleep with people for housing.

Both feature a protagonist that is homeless who ends up moving in with the other protagonist to escape homelessness, and then beginning an unusual relationship with each other.
