the acting is superbb!!!

okay so i went in fully expecting wall-to-wall jumpscares and honestly? i was so ready to be scared out of my mind every five minutes. but this drama said no actually, let’s do something different — and that ended up being the right call. the horror doesn’t hit you over the head constantly. it builds, creeps up on you, and when it does go there, it lands so much harder because you’re already emotionally attached. love when horror works like that.
the premise is genuinely clever. Girigo is this app that supposedly grants any wish you upload as a video. sounds too good to be true, obviously, and it is — turns out the whole thing is a curse deliberately created by whoever built it. once that reveal starts unfolding, the story gets way darker and way more personal than i initially expected. it stops being about a spooky app and starts being about people.
and that’s where the drama really shines for me. the underlying message hits different — it’s not just the classic “be careful what you wish for” thing. it’s more about how human desire is messy and complicated. people think they’re wishing for something good but underneath it’s tangled up with revenge, with feeling abandoned, with wanting to hurt someone back without admitting it to themselves. that kind of nuance? in a YA horror? didn’t see it coming and i respect it.
acting-wise everyone holds their own but let’s talk about the worst characters because oh my god. Nari, Kwon Siwon, and Gitae — absolutely insufferable and i mean that as a compliment to the writing because they made me genuinely annoyed in the best way possible. and Hyungwook broooo 😭

I wishes it could have been better.

What I disliked:
Few participant: The show tries taking a turn from the normal high school drama, but the turn wasn't good in the aspecct of leaving 5 students playing the game, for how few the numbers of the game player was, it created less thrill to me, the death was once and all, the last death happened because she was a big villain that deserved death, not because you were innocent, the death was created to get your attention into the show for those who love horror and suspense tag.
With how few the student participating actually is and only the main characters made a wish, the story wouldn't definitely want to leave half of the main characters dead.
The concept was nice, but wasn't a strong pulling force: Expected something more, like the students forced inot the app or entered accidentally, not expecting you having a choice to make a wish and coincidentally with most of the main characters playing the game they all made a wish which was lame and dumb.
A student actually writes down their birthday and everything and tells the app to grant their wisha and you say they thought it was a joke 'I find it a joke", when your birth calendar has been written purposely, and you then wish for the death of your friend in the so-called phone and you don't believe in the app, it sucks. They could have just made them real villains
Talking about some ridiculous concept, it was already reluctantly okay with the the premise, but then the wish could actually stop, at some incidence I mean does the writer actually wants to save the children.
Pacing Inconsistencies: The minor problem that I actually found heart wrenching the pacing was bad the writers were wrong they jumped from a real suspense moment of searching the house of an occultist into flashbacks on one of the leads and it continued through the end I mean are you actually playing me down in seeing my etching suspense.
Pick up one: Stop playing some rom-com in my suspense-horror, we didn't come for those hectic romance, you could have stopped in EPS one since the horrors haven't yet come by then and not stretched out to the romance to the end, they can play the real rom-com at the end of their struggles.

What I Loved:
The actors performance: As young as the actor they were the light of this show, the performance carried out by each of them was noteworthy and I was overwhelmed by distinctive villain and saving roles.

The suspense was a real hook, the horror was okay and the lighting gave in a lot for those horror.

Overall If wishes could kill is a drama I can't rewatch (I don't basically rewatch dramas) it had some horrors in to that, it gave me some flinching jumpscares, with plot holes that kills me and I find it had not to get tired but I basically enjoyed it.

P.s Netflix better stop their greedy nature the series have come to a close, their is no need to foreshadow that their is gonna be S2. The ending was really okay.

Very overhyped

So yeah, I watched lots..lots of videos on instagram about this kdrama, fortunately managed to avoid spoiler ones. And almost all of the were like "It's a masterpiece!", 10 out 10 etc. Trailer didn't impress me, but I still decided to give it a chance. Well...can't say that it was terrible decision, but I was surprised in a bad way.

Production here is not really bad, but it feels very low budget, like some low-budget trashy japanese series. And btw, this kdrama looks more like jdrama. Especially because of amount of blood. I instantly remembered japanese drama "Crow's Blood". It was also very silly and very bloody.

Story is not very interesting, twists are very predictable, characters not interesting, except maybe Na-Ri. Brother-in-law character is comedic relief here, and this is also one of my problems. Too many silly, stupid moments, like in comedy, and with sudden comedic music...in horror show! And as far as I know, it wasn't promoted like a black horror comedy or something like that. Also, the ending...No, I will say in general - after first couple of episodes story went downhill, except maybe episode 6. There are a lot of confusing story elements, and some of them just lead nowhere, or didn't get a proper resolution.

Can't really say much about acting - it was ok mostly. Kim Siwon and Hyeryung actresses and Kang Mi-Na are propably the best here, their acting was great, but their storylines felt really underdeveloped. Jeon So Nee was good, but nothing special, main heroine was ok, others - mediocre.

So, I don't understand the hype and good ratings. It's not completely terrible show, but not good either. I rated it with 5, mostly because it's short, with fast pacing, good concept overall, but really simirar to the german series "Wishlist", and with some good acting, but that's about it.

it had potential

i do have mixed feelings, i'd say ep 1 to ep 4 were good it was really engaging and the story looks interesting, the cast are also doing a great job acting
but then i watched ep 5-6 and i do understand why people are criticizing the show, it feels like it took a weird road and become kind of boring ,so the results is me losing interest to continue, there is only 2 eps left but smh im just not in the mood to finish the show even when i want to complete it so looks like it's not going to happen

I wish I hadn't wasted my time

wow, what can I say about this. It was just horrible. I was looking forward to watching this. It starts off great, but it went downhill fast. I was only able to finish three but episodes. I don't know what annoyed me the most, the predictable jump scares, the unnecessary comedic relief provided by the brother-in-law, or the out of place silly background music. This show really jumped the shark.

If you liked "The 8th show" or "The night has come" you will like this kdrama!!

This masterpiece of a show was insanely executed, from the videography point of view to the storytelling. The cast was exactly as you'd expect from this kind of a show - highschoolers who are mostly selfish, but also care quite a lot about their friends. Actors did such a good job conveying the feelings and emotions. The story behind how the app was made and why the app was cursed was a cherry on top.

// this is a vague spoiler//
I was kind of sad that some of the characters died and that they didn't get to come back alive though, but I understand, because the story wouldn't have made any sense if they did come back to life.

fantastic GIMMIE 14

my toes were curled, my butt was clenched, my teeth were chattering, my hand was over my mouth, I was gagging and looking away, I was crying then laughing then crying again, idk what was going on at times but that’s okay cause i rarely know what’s going on normally anyway, the cinematic aspect of it all was just one reason why i would re watch it for all the good bumps and tears it brought to my eyes at time, the cgi was amazing like again GAGGING at times for some of the scenes. all in all fantastic gimme 14.

ps WHAT WAS THAT ENEDING?!?

I like how it was not complicated or how it ddnt go of script...
The actors delivered a really spectacular acting... Script crispy ...show in gen very nice

I liked how they explained the root of the problem without actually clashing with the other episodes Nd how they make it easier for us to understand

Watch it I recommend

Do you like blood?

Here’s my review of this new drama that just came out:

Personally, I had never seen a drama that puts self-harm and suicide so front and center. I think this drama isn’t for everyone.

First, the story:

I found the story good overall, but a bit messy on one point. Yes, the girl commits suicide on the app and curses everyone who uses it. On that aspect, I thought the development was a bit strange. How do you curse an app? Sure, she’s a shaman, but they could have shown how she performed the ritual or something. Just saying “the app is cursed because of the suicide” feels a bit too easy and lacks real depth.

At the very beginning of the series, we see her suicide scene and the app is immediately cursed. Then the main story unfolds, and only at the end do we finally understand why the app was cursed (thanks to the scenes revealed at the end). I think it would have been better for the viewers if the full intrigue had been introduced right from the start. That way, we would immediately understand how and why the app was cursed, by who, and for what reason all while following the high school students who discover the “cursed” app, what happens to them, and how they try to escape it. Then, at the end, we could reach the same final scene where she has to destroy the phones to stop everything.

That’s my feeling about how the series handled the main theme of the story. In short: they should have shown all the scenes about the girl’s suicide and the curse right at the beginning instead of revealing them only at the end.

Now, about the actors and their performances:

Honestly, nothing to criticize here. I thought all the characters were well cast and played their roles convincingly. Especially Na-ri at the end she really surprised me. I didn’t expect her to act that well!

The OSTs are good, but they didn’t particularly impress or surprise me.

The visuals the blood, the appearances, and the “ghosts” are very well done!

In short, it’s a good series and I recommend it, but if you’re sensitive to blood or suicide themes, don’t watch it!

The fantasy element initially reminded me of a famous American author. In The Dark Tower saga, whenever magic offers something, it's always in exchange for something else, something absolutely terrible and devastating. The really nasty conversation that the first boy overhears when he shouldn't have, and which destroys him emotionally, is what the pink ball does in book 4. (It might just be my favourite book series, so don't mind me.) I wouldn't be surprised if the initial idea for the script came from that and Needful Things.

There's a parallel between the pills people take to get through their studies, to stay awake and focused, doping in sports, and this app. King showed how the 1980s in America had put a price on everything, on dignity, on life, and that nothing can ever be free in that world. That's exactly what If Wishes Could Kill does. At least, at first. Starting with episode 2, it takes a different turn and partially abandons the social critique aspect.

People start acting a little crazy, but they're teenagers, so we cut them some slack. Of course, a shaman and her sidekick have the solution. The series chooses to go back to the origin of the curse rather than just explore its consequences and the social subtext that comes with them. We might think it's going to be a total mess ! Well, not really. Its actually pretty cool. Even a little funny at times.Yeah, really.

So, paradoxically, it ends up as a story stripped of its fantastical elements. It abandons them to focus exclusively on friendship, on misunderstanding and lies.

Jeon So-young acts far better than her young co-stars. It's quite striking to see the effort she puts into her lines compared to the others. She's head and shoulders above them.

Anything involving the eyes... I just can't handle it ! It terrifies me.
