Steamy with a perfect cast in a fun setting!
(I rate vertical dramason their own sliding scale.)Even though I've seen this plotline a bunch of times, I didn't fast-forward. The focus remained on the leads, and it was a bit refreshing to see this plot set in the Republican era for once; the melodramatic plot shenanigans tied in very well in this setting. And totally worth it for Chen Si in uniforms, and that long cape!
Great acting, especially by the two main leads. They also had great chemistry and seemed perfectly comfortable woth each other. So steamy! And the FL kisses back too. Lots of sexual tension moments and kisses throughout the show (and very realistic, passionate kisses). And the longer makeout scene in bed is memorable. While the FL chooses to give herself to the ML and gives consent multiple times, there are many moments with a strong forced-seduction feel to them as the FL wants to keep their physical relationship a secret and the ML wants to claim her even in risky situations. Very satisfying and, I would say, guilt-free for those who enjoy that trope. It's also clear to the audience pretty quickly, though it takes a long while for the FL to understand it, that the ML wants more than just her body and has loved her for years.
In this version the ML is more ruthless and domineering (also works well for the era it's set in). There are a couple of slightly softer moments with the FL, but the ML retains his edge.
In this version the ML and SML (FL's god-brother) say they are "friends" but it sure doesn't come across that way, lol. More like they tolerate each other. And when the ML starts pursuing the FL, he starts subtly provoking/taunting the SML (because he's jealous and wants to lay claim) and it grows less subtle over time. Chen Si's face is so fun to watch with all of this.
I really liked the SFL's (ML's cousin) reaction to her engagement being called off. She wants real love for herself anyway and won't hang onto someone for less. Her attitude towards the FL afterwards was great and refreshing.

Cute and flirty version of „The Prince is too wild“
A Chen Si at his hottest (uniform, styling is to die for) and LXY - a dream team. A couple that makes sense (and both are great sensual kissers) She has a subtle natural charm and acting skills! Loved her collab with Cao Tian Kai *Secret Color Criticality* a few weeks ago or a the slow burn drama that turned the heat on *Take the bait* with Liu Lanbo.Do you know the plot where the fl loves her engaged gege (unrequited), and then a ml appears who coaxes or drags her away from this hopeless crush? A very popular take on it is “The Prince is too wild” with Zeng Hui (outside CEO ice, inside ruthless passion).
This is this plot in Republican era clothes. And it’s not this drama at all, at the same time

It starts with a bang presenting him as a dark dangerous and “prime red flag estate” military commander (a Dobermann next to him)
He meets her at her brothers engagement party after she returns from her three years of exile in France - asks her if she’s still in love with her “brother” - and tells her she should be “his woman”.
And then …I couldn’t stop watching it completely, it was 3 am…
Chen Si, he’s flirty and sensual and at times provocative (*that’s what I ***adore*** in a drama, instant love) and she reacts wonderfully flustered and nervous which he loves.
His family is very influential, so she’s asking for his protection or help a few times. And he’s frank, it’s not for free. So she finally makes a deal to free her jailed foster father - she’ll be his woman (but in secret only) - and then discovers that this deal wasn’t necessary at all because he has already done his magic. Now he insists that they had an agreement - and a deal is a deal.
That’s their relationship in a nutshell. He needles her to get her attention, relentlessly., but not cruel. when she finally takes his bait (the deak) and gives her verbal consent, he’s not dragging her to the bedroom. That’s not his goal, it is the starting shot for him to playfully seduce LXY step by step.
He treats her as his girlfriend while she acts on the premise that it’s a one time deal only. To her bafflement, it’s not a “close your eyes and think of England” *- her noble sacrifice number. He’s patiently amused about this expectation and good naturedly supports her attempts at secrecy.
Of course, there’s a bit of politics and green tea, a scumbag and a Gege waking up and facing his emotions, but there’s as well a warm adoptive mother and a surprise friend.
Guess what, both leads brought their A Game and it’s cute and hot.
The cast was good! Her foster brother / Gege was perceptive and nice- and jealous too. His fiancée - it’s finally one who’s more than a rival and spiteful.
- Chen Si looks at her with so much tenderness and warmth in his eyes… 😍
- he is *stealing kisses* behind the back of her family, it’s so young and in love coded.
- The running gag is her defensive claim of French boyfriends with too many kisses to count. And he says in dry amusement that for all this, she’s terrible at kissing. French Kissing. Her reply: “as if you’re good at it! 😘🤣
- Or when she’s got to pick him up in her car and she wears a headscarf and sunglasses (at night)🤣
- when she tries to get rid of him (too funny)
It’s a lovely romcom with a warm and sensual atmosphere and two good leads just having fun. 🤩 So flirty, romantic and increasingly steamy… what it’s not: a domineering man blackmails her into a physical relationship. And that’s why it’s so different from the Zeng Hui version and it’s just what I needed. Have I mentioned how super hot 🔥 Chen Si looks?

Republican era version of the Prince is Too Wild plot with Chen Si and Lui Xi Yu. Loved the contrast between the bubbly, petite actress and Chen Si's lean, sighthound stature and menacing energy. Girl is over her head when she accepts to become his mistress and he's clearly setting a trap for her to fall into, but she's not exactly reluctant. Their dynamic was both cute and sexy, a difficult mix to blend well, but the young actors balance it perfectly : she's not so innocent while he's not so jaded. She wants to explore, he teases and pushes her but not too hard, waiting for her to take the bait (such a fun dynamic). This is my first Chen Si drama and I'm impressed, he's got talent. A very strong pick if you want to watch a Republican era romance leaning more towards romantic comedy with a dash of spice than Noir thriller.Was this review helpful to you?

Not much plot but super hot & steamy
The plot is thin as paper, but you aren't watching for that. You want to see the ML relentlessly pursue our FL by stealing kisses behind screens, in corners, and wherever else he can proposition her. Bonus: a man in uniform.Why does this pursuit work when so many of these short vertical dramas do not with the same theme? Because while the show presents the FL as hesitant bc she thinks she is in love with her foster brother (out of gratitude), you can tell she wants it. LOL If this had been played by any other actress, it might have veered into SA and be icky, but our FL's acting gives our naive girl enough humor and exasperation that you quickly see she wants him to devour her.
Both of these main actors are so very good! Both are so talented, and I've loved a lot of what they've been in. Chen Si has a scene where he is asked to kneel to appease the guy who has the girl, and the acting there is Aplus. Wow! Top tier.
JMO but I really like Chen Si in this one because his face is real. Not sure how to write about that but I like the more mature look on a guy and this is a very good foil for the FL's very young baby face. Bonus? He's a hot-hot-hot kisser.
Really great speech at the end when the FL explains to the 2ML why she knows its love with the ML. It shows she's really thought about the difference between a crush vs longlasting love.
HOWEVER, there is a very problematic scene in the beginning that I really did NOT like as it was gratitious and unnecessary. Early on the FL visits the ML and he has someone under questioning (why didn't his guard stop her? hello??). The idea that a ML has to prove how ruthless he is by torturing someone is (for some reason) a key in these Chinese dramas. Me no like it.
Add in that the ML just shoots the guy in front of her so his blood splatter gets all over face!!?? She would have some SERIOUS PTSD.
Another scene is the Russian roulette thing at the party. Really? Any real man would say "how dumb are you?"
Overall, watch it for the hot scenes and there are plenty of those!

This one story is So FIRE !!!!I love Xiyu and Chensi why they are this good together ! The story line is good that i wish it more longer TT-TT
And when they are together it so hot and cute at the same times i love when the ML are so in love with the FL (the bed scene is chef kiss) LOL
Btw Xiyu cute in this series tooo
PS they have a good chemistry hope they can work together again in 4th times someday .

The clothing was awesome, the story was good. The actor were great. I don't recognize the FL name but she was a good fit.

9ª versão do novel Guo Fen Ye
Essa nona versão lançada recentemente do web novel "Guo Fen Ye" manteve mais a essência e momentos importantes da versão "Tai Zi Ye Ta Guo Fen Ye" com Zeng Hui e Deng Ling Shu e também vi similaridades em algumas situações da versão "Lian Nian Bu Wang" do Cao Tian Kai e Zhang Shan. Eu sou completamente apaixonada por esse enredo, então já assisti inúmeras vezes (principalmente essas duas citadas acima), então vou fazer minha análise em cima de todas.Chen Si: foi um dos atores que sempre desejei ver interpretar o papel do He Ting Zhou, sua caracterização foi muito boa, ele ficou lindo de uniforme kkkkk Seu personagem já segue mais uma linha mais sangue frio, principalmente na cena em que a FL vai de encontro com ele para pedir ajuda, ele matar o outro personagem na frente dela mostrou que ele é quem ele é, e não fingiria ser diferente, porém com o passar do drama ele conseguiu mostrar para a FL que independente de suas ações, ele tinha outro lado.
Liu Xi Yu: eu ADORO essa atriz, mas demorei bastante para me conectar com sua personagem. E os beijos demoraram muito para me cativar por parte dela. Ainda prefiro Deng Ling e a Zhang Shan para essa FL. E seu figurino era mais largo do que precisava ser, parece que não lhe serviu bem, apenas o roxo ficou bonito.
2ML: achei que manteve o personagem mais trouxa dos outros dramas, mas não opino muito sobre ele porque realmente não faz diferença pra mim kkkkk o único 2ML que realmente me incomodou foi o Gu Ming Han em "Lure Step by Step".
História: torci o nariz ao ver que era ambientado na Era Republicana, porque não sou fã de dramas de época, mas por causa do arco do ML foi interessante de assistir, acho que encaixou muito bem com a sua posição perante a sociedade.
O "confronto"/desafio do ML com o 2ML foi interessante e intenso, porém não senti arrepios como na versão do Zeng Hui, talvez pela OST escolhida para o momento que intensificou tudo muito bem.
Resumidamente: nunca me negarei em assistir uma versão deste plot, mas meu TOP3 não mudou.
Eu gostaria muito de ver os atores Ke Chun, Sheng Hao Nan, Wang Bo e o Wang Zi Yi interpretando o ML.
