The Power of a Kiss

With a rider on a white horse arriving at the Royal Palace in Davin City, 'The Next Prince' opens with a dizzying premise and has the audacity to succeed.
The plot is as follows: Since being appointed captain of the Royal Guard, Charan Phithakdheva's (Zee Pruk Panich) life has focused solely on duties, which he gallantly performs after laying down the brush with which he paints beautiful paintings. This includes secretly flying from Emmaly to London to find and bring back Khanin (NuNew Chawarin Perdpiriyawong), one of the heirs to the throne of a kingdom ruled by a monarchy divided into four regions and leaders.
However, Khanin is unaware of his origins as a member of the Atsawathewathin Royal Family, belonging to one of the regions that divide Emmaly. After his mother's assassination, his grandfather, King Thipokbowon (Nhing Nirut Sirijanya), decided to protect him by sending him outside the kingdom's borders. He must return to comply with the law that requires a new successor to be chosen periodically, and therefore the heirs must compete to win the throne for their families. According to royal law, since reigns are not for life, the father of the winning heir becomes the new king of Emmaly.
The story shows how love can blossom between a crown prince and a subject, someone who, precisely, must protect him and bring him back to his homeland.
'The Next Prince' is the third BL series in which Zee and NuNew have acted together, following their successful debut as a couple in 'Cutie Pie' and its special episodes 'Cutie Pie 2 You', and in 'Naughty Babe' in 2023. Both directed by Aoftion Kittipat Champa, who here makes us cheer on the daring couple's transition from strangers to lovers, from crown prince to subject, with the support of cinematographer Sarawut Chuparkpanich, who photographs the protagonists with such adoration that you almost expect them to turn to the camera and offer a bottle of cologne.
Additionally, Zee and NuNew starred in the 2023 horror romance film 'After Sundown'.
Based on the novel of the same name by CEO. ft. ENNICE features some familiar names in the cast of this series, which blends equal parts action, drama, and romance, many of them in supporting roles. These include Tom Phollawat Manuprasert as Prince Tharin, Khanin's father; and Saksit Tangthong, who plays Thatdanai Keerakul, the man who, following the king's instructions, brought the heir to the throne to Great Britain to educate and raise the young man as if he were his own son.
Instead, the two lead actors, winners of major awards in 2022, including the "Y Universe Award for Best Leading Actor", the "Shining Star of the Year" Award, and "Most Outstanding Artists" at the Kazz Awards for their participation in the BL series "Cutie Pie", are at the center of attention, and both are undoubtedly seductive, both individually and as a couple. Basically, the chemistry between the two is also good, so a receptive audience in this regard has much to talk about and dream about.
It will be extraordinary when the captain of the Royal Guard and the crown prince become lovers. And while this happens later, what is clear to the audience is that when the two kiss while playing a game at a party —unbeknownst to Khanin, according to an Emmaly legend, when one person kisses another it is considered a promise of love with that person— you know they are meant for each other, even if they themselves don't know it. It doesn't take much to understand that.
Within minutes of the first episode, these two very different people have become two people who desire each other; after that, there's talk of a great love. This can also make you dream.
Produced by Domundi and Mandee Work, with the initial situation (two young people, one destined to be the heir to the throne of Emmaly and the other the person who must protect him from those seeking to assassinate him and, with his death, prevent the Royal Family of Atsawathewathin from remaining on the throne for any longer), 'The Next Prince' already has all BL romance fans in the palm of their hand. A more forbidden love can hardly be imagined.
With a script by Jungjing Wanna Kortunyavat ('After Sundown'), directors Aoftion Kittipat Jampa and Den Panuwat Inthawat ('War of Y') almost manage to square the circle of romantic dramas. Strange, diverse, and charming, just like its two highly engaging protagonists, this romantic series about a nonexistent kingdom impresses with its clever staging and is particularly notable for its wit, lively dialogue, and combat action.
The two directors keep "The Next Prince" in a solidly fantastical space. You never believe anything you're seeing, from the inability of a skilled fencer to defend himself against a knife-wielding assassin, to the fact that someone so well-informed about Emmaly's history, culture, and traditions is unaware of the legend of that kingdom's kiss. And yet, like a summer read, it's easy to understand and has enough wit and insight to rise above many mediocre BL films.

I can truly feel every layer of his performance: the sincerity in his eyes, the weight of his pain, the purity of his joy. It’s captivating. He makes every moment feel personal, and that’s such a rare gift in an actor.

I’m incredibly excited to dive deeper into his world. I can’t wait to truly meet Prince Khanin and understand what drives him. At the same time, Kenneth will always hold a special place in my heart—his charm, vulnerability, and warmth are unforgettable.

NuNew has this quiet power to make you feel seen through his characters, and that’s what keeps me coming back, again and again.

Royalement décevant...

Les décors, la photographie et les costumes sont de qualité, quant au reste… La plupart des intrigues (même romantiques) sont reléguées au second plan, sauf si elles servent le couple principal. L'univers pouvait se montrer innovant, mais l'histoire s'est dégradée au fil des épisodes.

Personne ne peut oublier que Khanin (NuNew Chawarin Perdpiriyawong) et Charan (Zee Pruk Panich) sont les personnages principaux. Si cela doit arriver, le scénario les replacera au centre de l'intrigue, peu importe si les autres personnages possèdent davantage de potentiel… Pour moi, leur duo illustre parfaitement le problème que peut devenir un pairing au bout d'un moment. Le culte autour d'eux a atteint un tel niveau qu'il ne laisse plus aucune surprise sur les personnages qu'ils incarnent. Le premier sera le mignon au sourire niais, le second sera le preux chevalier en armure. Il ne s'agit plus d'un duo d'acteurs, mais d'une paire fictive. Au bout d'un moment, c'était comme regarder Cutie Pie dans un contexte royal. En fin de compte, les deux acteurs stagnent dans leur jeu, donnant presque l'impression de ne pas savoir jouer autre chose.

Le deuxième couple, Ramil (Jimmy Karn Kritsanaphan) et Paytai (Ohm Thanakrit Chiamchunya), possédait une idée de base intéressante (cela l'est davantage compte tenu que ces pratiques sont peu (voir pas) explorées sur grand ou petit écran). La production a-t-elle fait quelque chose de valable ? Non ! Aucun charme ne se dégage de ce couple, encore moins de leur histoire qui connaît un fil conducteur médiocre. Apparemment, le roman et l'adaptation sont très différents, c'est dommage de voir un tel gâchis. Si Jimmy et Ohm savent jouer, il paraît évident qu'ici, ils ont été mal écrits et dirigés.

Pour finir avec le troisième couple, Calvin (Net Siraphop Manithikhun) et Jay (JJ Radchapon Phornpinit). Leur arc est si faible que si le scénario avait mis encore moins de bonne volonté, ils ne seraient pas là. Le manque de soin dans leur histoire en devient une insulte pour les acteurs et les spectateurs. Alors qu'en réalité, ce couple pouvait prendre le dessus sur absolument tout le monde en termes d'intrigue. L'identité cachée de Calvin était du pain béni. Et pourtant, le scénario n'a fait aucun effort. The Next Prince ne fait ni honneur ni justice à ce duo. J'étais désolée et contrariée pour eux chaque semaine.

Comment un univers si riche peut livrer un scénario si creux ? La royauté fait rêver. Elle représente un monde de beauté, d'élégance et de raffinement. Et pourtant… Les décors sont de bonne facture, ainsi que les costumes, mais derrière tout ça ? Rien. Malgré l'intérêt de la première partie, le reste s'effondre après quelques épisodes. L'histoire ne devient qu'un bruit de fond entre petites manigances politiques, ridicule révolte des classes sociales, tentatives d'amours interdits (mais pas trop non plus) et d'un couple principal ennuyeux.

En fin de compte, je n'attendais que de voir Net, JJ et Kris jouant de l'avance rapide le reste du temps. Et même sur ce point, je ne suis pas satisfaite. Miser sur les visuels et le couple principal, c'est sacrément audacieux et présomptueux. Cela faisait un moment qu'un drama ne m'avait pas autant contrarié. Est-il complètement mauvais ? Non. Vaut-il votre temps ? À moins d'être un fervent fan du pairing principal, non.

Oh, et les deux dernières scènes sont probablement les pires choix à faire, mais ils l'ont fait !

En bref, The Next Prince n'est qu'un pétard mouillé avec une couronne qui ne sert qu'à mettre en scène les favoris de Mandee, reléguant les autres personnages au rang de faire-valoir dans une histoire sans grand intérêt, malgré son potentiel d'origine.

Amei, de verdade. Foi um daqueles BLs que me prenderam do começo ao fim, mesmo com algumas falhas aqui e ali. O casal principal é tudo pra mim, tem uma química muito boa e aqueles momentos fofos que fazem a gente sorrir feito boba. Achei que construíram bem a história dos dois, e mesmo que algumas coisas pudessem ter sido melhor desenvolvidas, nada me tirou do clima da série.

O que mais gostei foi como eles conseguiram equilibrar os momentos leves com um pouco de drama, mas sem pesar demais. Era divertido, gostoso de assistir, dava vontade de maratonar. Teve partes que me deixaram ansiosa, torcendo muito pra que tudo desse certo entre eles. E mesmo com os defeitinhos, ainda assim senti que o casal foi carismático o suficiente pra carregar tudo.

Recomendo muito pra quem curte BL, especialmente se você gosta de casais com química e histórias que não tentam ser muito mirabolantes, mas ainda assim aquecem o coração.

Es todo lo que está bien!!

Esta serie es una gran obra de arte, tanto la puesta en escena, como el vestuario y las grandes actuaciones. Suelo entender cuando algunas personas no le gustan cierto tipo de series, pero en esta si que realmente no logro entender porque no les gusto.

Las historias tenían su peso sobre todo CharanKhanin y RamilPaytai, ambos eran necesarios para él entendimiento de la realidad, la pareja secundaria siempre están para mostrar el otro lado de la moneda en el amor, sin ellos no entenderíamos también él gran trabajo de nuestra pareja principal. El pesó que pasaba la relación de RamilPaytai por el mundo en el que Ramil se desenvolvía y el como también ciertas reglas podrían o no afectar al CharanKhanin.
Son dos caras de la misma moneda.

Mi precioso CalvinJay también dió pie al ver cómo las personas de Emmaly se desenvolvían en un ambiente lejano a la realidad, los problemas y realidades, actos políticos y luchas colectivas por lo mismo, con un gran mensaje, sin un pueblo el país realmente no sé desarrolla y el abandono de la gente obrera es lo que también lograra desestabilizarlo, una mirada tan humana. LOS AMÓ!

Me hubiera gustado ver más de Ava y Mira pero bueno cositas.

No quita lo hermosa que es esta serie y lo espectacular que es, no es solo amor, es humanidad y en un mundo donde la gente no quiere ser partidaria o hablar de política es una gran mirada a la realidad.

sinto muito por todos que não gostaram (ou fingem que não gostaram)

Eu não sou fã do ship, mas estava ansiosa pela estreia de The Next Prince justamente por causa da premissa diferente, até agora, não lembro de nenhum outro BL que tenha explorado a monarquia como tema.
O início é promissor e a história não demora a nos situar. Os personagens são bem apresentados, e a trama segue com um bom desenvolvimento, exatamente como deveria ser.
Gostei da forma como a história foi escrita e me apeguei aos personagens, mesmo achando que alguns mereciam bem mais espaço. A fotografia é belíssima, o valor de produção realmente se sobressaiu em alguns pontos. As críticas sociais presentes na série também foram um ponto alto, especialmente o problema central, que serve de catalisador para todos os acontecimentos atuais. Achei interessante como tudo foi interligado.
O final é muito bonito, exatamente como eu esperava. A decisão do protagonista fez total sentido dentro da trajetória dele e com tudo que vimos até aquele ponto.
Sobre a Ava, confesso que fiquei decepcionada. O discurso dela sobre igualdade de gênero era forte, e o que fizeram com a personagem vai contra tudo o que ela defendeu. Isso realmente me incomodou.
No fim, The Next Prince pode não ser uma obra perfeita, mas é uma experiência sólida, bem construída e ousada dentro do gênero. Arrisca ao sair do óbvio, entrega uma narrativa coesa e prova que bl também pode explorar outros cenários, conflitos políticos e críticas sociais sem perder o envolvimento emocional. Para mim, funcionou (e funcionou muito bem).

Un cuento de hadas moderno?

Me gustó mucho! Creo que es importante respetar el género: acción, aventura, realeza AU. Y cumple perfectamente estas etiquetas, tanto, que puedo dejar de lado las cosas que no me gustaron tanto o los hoyos argumentales (como algunas historias que no se terminaron de cerrar, pero bueno).
Me gustó mucho la forma de encajar este reino y su semejanza a Tailandia, además de la historia de creación muy estilo cuento de hadas, con problemas contingentes encima (contaminación, explotación laboral, corrupción política, machismo).
Claramente la química entre ZeeNew indiscutible, dieron muy buenos momentos con sus personajes y las escenas explícitas fueron grabadas dentro del contexto, con muy buena dirección de arte.
Me sorprendí disfrutando la música, ya que no suele ser algo que me llame la atención; pero buena elección.

Llevo como dos años con esta cuenta y jamás me animé a escribir una reseña, así que iniciaremos el 2026 con ello.

No me había animado a ver The Next Prince porque no soy una gran fan del ZeeNunew (o al menos no lo era). Cuando mire Cutie Pie con toda honestidad solo la terminé por la pareja del TutorYim entonces tenia mis dudas sobre disfrutar otra serie de ellos. Sin embargo, vi Zomvivor y para mi sorpresa, los amé. Animada a ver TNP debo decir que me sorprendí. Tienen mucha química (las 3 parejas) y disfrute bastante viéndola, hubo pequeños momentos en los que me aburrí lo admito pero nada demasiado preocupante.

Ahora, amé los vestuarios, la escenografía, los detalles. Hacer ficción sobre realeza tiene su maña, o se ve barato, o se ve muy ficticio. Creo que ellos lograron el punto perfecto. Y si, también hubo momentos en los que la trama se iba al carajo pero se disimula muy bien.

Como sea, puedo decir felizmente que ahora me gusta el ZeeNunew ( y dios mio, necesito más del NetJJ son terriblemente lindoos).

10/10 TOTALLY WORTH THE WAIT

When I saw the movie trailer for this series in may,l was like wow I totally needed to watch this, but because of my nationality and the fact that the only available place I could watch it on needs to be uploaded, l had to wait and I waited for three good months before I could watch it and am impressed.from the start to the finish I was enthralled, especially by khanin and Charan romance, they totally have THE chemistry, the other couples, ramil and paytai was hot and bdsm kinky while that of Calvin and Jay was soft an sweet, just so glad that they all made up in the end.although I would have loved to see more of ramilpaytai and jaycalvin relationship end up with a wedding ring like that of nincharans own, but for now am satisfied, not complaining at all.
Still shocked as to how the evil villain turned out to be none other than prince wasin,was expecting it to be Mr green cobra but am not surprised.thought the grandfather would be alive to see the new changes and reform nin and his dad would bring so am still not happy he died before that at all, would have loved to rub it in his face but oh well!!.
All in all this series is one of my all time favorite after watching love in the air,we are, ever you and boy next world. looking forward to more amazing series from the producers but this series is a must watch, am so damned serious.and I gave it a ten so you all would understand how serious l am .

tutto così random…

Secondo me ci sono molti lati negativi in questo BL, molte cose che di per sé non hanno funzionato, come per esempio, già dall’inizio, non ho capito niente di sti regni e i nomi delle famiglie erano impossibili, ho fatto molta difficoltà a capire le dinamiche familiari di tutti i personaggi, ma nonostante questo, una delle poche cose venute bene nella serie sono proprio i personaggi, che ho trovato strutturati molto bene.
Una pecca, però, una grandissima, è che la coppia primaria è entrata subito in sintonia e ci è rimasta, questo non mi ha spinto ad andare avanti, perché la loro relazione è proceduta tutta per filo e per segno, mentre la coppia secondaria, Ramil e Paytai, li ho apprezzati molto di più, ho trovato in loro più phatos, una bella e complicata storia d’amore, tra amante e famiglia complicata, se loro fossero stati la coppia principale mi sarei goduta di più la serie, proprio per questa passione tra di loro, che avrei voluto vedere anche in Charan e Khanin.
L’altra coppia ancora invece, Jay e Calvin, non hanno avuto molto senso a mio parere, è nato tutto così a caso, però ammetto che sono stati molto carini (ps. Era il primo bl che vedevo con Net insieme a Jj dopo che si è lasciato con James, pps. Mi sono innamorata di jj ops) comunque come coppia in questo BL avevano molto potenziale, ma non sono stati esplorati a fondo e un po’ mi è dispiaciuto.
Un’altra cosa totalmente a caso, hanno fatto per praticamente 3/4 del BL un’hype pazzesca per sta gara che avrebbe decretato il nuovo monarca, e poi si è rivelata una gran cavolata, sembrava hunger games dei poveri, totalmente osceno.
Però, una cosa che ho davvero apprezzato, è stato il personaggio di Ava, solitamente non sopporto le ragazze in nessuna serie/bl qualsiasi cosa sia, ma le mi è piaciuta veramente un casino, non tollero nemmeno i discorsi femministi che ormai rifilano ovunque, ma il suo ha spaccato! Quindi per questo aspetto l’ho apprezzato molto, specialmente quando si è ritirata dalla gara perché ha capito che era solo un gioco di potere, grande donna!
Vabbè poi delle scene intime che devo dire, quelle pazzesche!
In sunto: era tutto così random, sono tutte idee di per sé belle, però sono state sviluppate male secondo me, e sembrano fatte di fretta, mi dispiace, non ho apprezzato completamente questo BL, la cosa migliore sono stati Ramil e Paytai, basta li amo!
Ah quasi dimenticavo, le ambientazioni, outfit ecc.. tutto molto figo, ma ciò non basta per dargli un buon voto, spiace.
