Just One Unpopular Opinion

This series did not click with me. Something just seemed off from the very beginning which prevented me from enjoying it. After the first 3 episodes, I felt like I watched a very long trailer. I got a rough outline of a series without actually getting the full content. It did not help that the script was not the greatest. It did not do a really good job introducing the characters which were also not fully developed. I simple didn’t find the storyline or the characters very interesting which is an important factor for me. Another problem was the pacing was inconsistent. There were times sections either happen too slow or at a rapid speed. There were also points where scenes seem to just randomly happen for no reason. On the positive, the overall acting was good considering the cast is new to the field.

Cute, but a little weirdly paced

I tried to think of this independently as much as possible, but without the context of the manhwa plot it felt as if a lot of the story points felt too under-explored to have meaningful depth. It touched on all the parts of the manhwa I loved, but I wish they had gone a bit further (especially Jiwon's backstory, as it is quite significant to why he acts the way he does)...

I loved the actor for Jongwoo! He really captured his softness so well. I wish Jiwon's actor delivered a bit further, but all in all it was a cute watch.

Wow! Season two please?

Let me start off by saying I hadn't heard anything about this BL other than it was going to be airing on iQIYI, and since I have a subscription, why not?
I'm really glad I did. The chemistry was evident right away and the characters had dimension, meaning they had flaws or concerns, they recognized them and they actually communicated with each other. I really don't like the misunderstandings we see in some BLs because the characters don't talk to each other.
If I had to pick something I didn't like it would be that it was too short. I really felt like these characters had some depth to them and scenes could have been expanded.
Finally I was pleasantly surprised at how tastefully done the kissing scenes were. Very romantic!10/10 👍

One of the Most Phenomenal KBLs This Year!!

Love isn’t always a grand thing. For most of us, it’s simply about being able to accept ourselves with the person we care about most.

That’s the quiet truth at the heart of Ball Boy Tactics, a Korean BL adapted from the web novel by Ji Seung Hyeon. Across its eight episodes, the series explores the gentle gravity of connection between two athletes caught in the long shadow of public scrutiny, private trauma, and growing attraction.

Retired Olympic gymnast Han Ji Won (Yeom Min Hyuk) isn’t looking for love or attention when he enters university, but the spotlight is hard to escape when you’re a medalist. Even harder when someone like Kwon Jeong U (Choi Jae Hyeok), a talented but emotionally reserved basketball star, seems unable to look away. What starts as accidental run-ins between two very different people slowly becomes something that feels inevitable.

Rocky start, but beautiful finish

The acting from the male leads was hilariously stiff for the first couple of episodes, but thankfully it got better with each episode.
Despite that, the story is quite compelling, and for such a short drama they manage to go over serious topics (first relationships, pressure of maintaining one’s reputation…); while still keeping the story cute and lighthearted.
Also the 2nd couple is a gem, they have great chemistry! I hope they get their own show too.

The storyline and acting was pretty mid.

The first two episodes really hooked me in this drama but later the excitement started to drop. I still enjoyed the show. The only cast who kept me in the show was prolly the MLs extrovert friend, would love to see him work in another drama in the future. The NC scenes were shot beautifully
Visuals were good but could have worked better on Storyline and acting.

Short but sweet

Overall, this is a solid university K-BL, and I would recommend it if you're looking for a short, easy-going romance to watch.

The plot isn't very complex, but it does address some serious subjects, such as trauma responses, verbal and physical abuse, bullying, and internalized homophobia. The actors deliver an impressive performance; their interactions feel natural, and the chemistry between them is brilliant.

And, while I wasn't a fan of the open ending, it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the drama.

light watch if you’re bored enough

plot holes and sloppy writing. acting was mediocre too but the worst part of it all for me was the overall production honestly. the way they arranged the scenes was just really irritating and turned me off the story honestly lol like I didn’t care anymore and the backstory was weak to begin with in my opinion

to the catcher that never caught...

it is i, the niel.

high school musical if there was no singing and no one could communicate. at the start, i was rooting for jiwon. by the end, i was over it. we got nothing about the background or development of these characters, only brief mentions or cuts to scenes that we never saw. how are you going to allude to events happening and then never explain them? thanks. it made it incredibly difficult to understand why jiwon was acting the way he was, which consistently made me feel irritated with him.

the final episode was nonsense, and the two previous episodes felt rushed and underdeveloped. don't dedicate a third of the final episodes to physical romance scenes when you could've been using that time for character development. there was barely any conflict throughout the entire show, and when it got brought up, it was either resolved immediately, or we got jiwon pouting for way too long. what was the deal with the side characters? it felt like the creators wanted a second season, but viewers should not have to rely on a second season to get development that should've happened sooner.

there were elements of the show that were silly, goofy, and overall pleasant to get through. it's a quick, easy watch. the underdeveloped characters and abrupt, almost non-ending ruined the vibes. whatever, i should've read the novel. we're all in this together!

best,

the niel.

Ballboy Tactics: For Those Who Love Quiet Love

I really enjoyed Ballboy Tactics. It’s not a high-drama series, but that’s exactly what made it special for me. The story is calm and slow, like real life, and the emotions felt genuine.

The actors did a great job showing feelings through small gestures and eye contact, without overacting. It felt natural like two university boys figuring out their emotions quietly.

The cinematography was also really pretty and artistic, with soft lighting and peaceful vibes. If you like soft BLs with realistic settings and slow burn romance, this one is worth watching.

The potential was there

I really want to like this show more than I do.

The characters were both very interesting, but the editing, pacing and the script really hampered the potential they had. In the big moments I found myself confused, going wait, why are they saying these things? What do they want? Which obviously lessened the impact those scenes had.

The actors I though did all a great job, no complaints there!

As characters, Jiwon ended up coming across as more frustrating, than anything else, but I do understand the intent behind what the writers wanted for him. For me his actions just didn't translate properly. For example, when they were taking a break, Jeongu seemed to be keeping in touch, texting him, but somehow Jiwon still thought they were breaking up? Didn't answer even once? Like the ball was in his court, and idk, it was frustrating to be so confused about the internal monologue.

As for Jeongu, I actually really liked his character! When he realised he had a crush on Jiwon, it was the cutest thing, and the show portrayed his confused and besotted feelings very cutely, it was very entertaining.

The kissing, touching and physicality of the two was actually excellent, felt very natural, no foot of air between their bodies when they were kissing lol. Their first time was very well done too, both little shy, both little nervous and very careful with each other, it felt very realistinc!

The side characters were both great, and I wish them all the happiness in the future lol - "half of the group is gay" *awkward side-eye* made me giggle, they had great chemistry too.

Overall, some really high highlights, muddled in the middle. Won't be watching this again, but don't regret finishing it!

What an underrated gem!

There are some secondary themes and subplots involving sports and the characters’ lives as athletes, but I wouldn’t expect too much on this front. Jeongwu and Jiwon’s relationship largely forms the backbone of the show.

The series starts off with their blossoming romance that had me kicking my legs. What’s ridiculously adorable is Jiwon’s innocence and awkwardness when it comes to flirting. He frequently stumbles over his words and ends up spouting silly things in front of the person he likes, all as a result of his dating inexperience.

Jeongwu has no lack of suitors but it’s his first time falling for a guy. And let me tell you, the man is whipped – compared to previous relationships where he’s largely unaffected by conflicts or breakups, just being in the presence of Jiwon flusters him.

The couple are madly infatuated with each other and will take every opportunity to sneak kisses in. Very first love/teenage love vibes.

Verdict: Very cute couple! This is a gem that somehow went under the radar.
