Started off well, had some dumb character angst in the middle, ended well

It's all in the headline.

This started off like a great series, subverting tropes, showing communication, green flag behaviour, immediate interest in each other, good intimacy, no drama.

Then we got some drama due to *Jiwon* being insecure and messing things up and hurting Jungwoo in various ways. No cheating or breakups for anyone concerned. But we had some angsty hurt moments.

They made up in the end and it was a happy ending. But the obsession Jiwon had with Jungwoo in the first couple of episodes never came back around. It was all on Jungwoo to carry the relationship after he realised his interest. Although Jiwon was the one who apologised and made up for his behaviour (not enough grovelling in my opinion but if Jungwoo wants to forgive him and be with him instead of punishing him then that's understandable). Still rewatchable for the subverted tropes and the great early episodes. Had very good kissing and intimacy, especially for a KBL, in case that matters to anyone.

Also, the ballboy tactics title is a bit weird (too much innuendo lol) and initially put me off from watching the show but it never really came into play in the series. Apparently a ballboy is just someone who picks up basketballs in the court.

Clear Eyes, Honest Hearts: Ball Boy Tactics Review

Review of “Ball Boy Tactics”

Ball Boy Tactics is a Korean drama that stands out from other boys’ love (BL) series I’ve watched. Unlike many others that leave you confused about how the relationship even started, this one offers a clear, engaging, and emotionally grounded storyline.

The pacing and narration are well-structured, making the story easy to follow. The music is subtle and fitting, and the cinematography is gentle on the eyes, with direction that feels smooth and intentional—not jarring or overwhelming.

Let’s talk about the leads.
Choi Jae Hyeok, who plays Kwon Jeong U, completely stole my attention. His performance felt sincere and layered. You could truly feel his internal struggle, the depth of his love, and the way he tried to push past fear and stigma to hold onto someone he cared for. I especially admired how his character, despite being an athlete, was ready to publicly embrace his relationship—highlighting the harsh reality public figures face with online backlash and judgment. This added a real-world weight to his performance and message.

Yeom Min Hyeok as Han Ji Won was just as compelling. He embodied fear, anxiety, and emotional suppression so well. You could see how torn he was—trying to protect the one he loves by pushing him away. But as the story unfolds, we witness his growth and his realization that love shouldn't be hidden or denied just because of societal pressure. His transformation from silent suffering to emotional clarity was touching and felt authentic.

As for the secondary characters, I wish they had more screen time. There were glimpses of meaningful dynamics between them—especially involving unspoken feelings and misunderstandings between friends—but they weren’t explored deeply enough. Still, the support they showed each other added warmth to the story.

In the end, this drama isn’t just about romance—it’s about standing up for love, understanding one’s feelings, and learning not to abandon those we care for. It’s soft, meaningful, and beautifully portrayed.

Just perfect!

This Korean drama had me from the moment i was watching the first two episodes. I have already watched the drama several times. Every week i was rewatching and rewatching the episodes, i could not get enough of it.
Everything was on point, acting, filming, editing, music, visuals.

The dynamics between Ji Won and Jeong U are amazing!! The teasing of Jeong U, the looks of Ji Won. The chemistry!! They show that chemistry is in everything, looking, touches, kissing. Jeong U always looking at Jo Won's lips and caressing his ear... Ji Won in his shyness just uses his eyes mostly, but also the moments when he uses his hands (start ep 4), the way he kisses Jeong U....Everything between those two...out of this world.
And the way they solved things, little misunderstandings, but they always went to each other and talked about it. Sometimes after a short break from each other. That's the way you solve problems in a relationship.

And then those friends, they made this whole drama complete, the unconditional friendship of the friends of both leads.
Byeon Seungjin was hilarious, it gave just enough funny moments to this drama.

I will definatly watch this drama many more times in the future. And i am waiting for a spinn-off where i want to see more of the development between Byeon Seungjin and Yang Eun O. And ofcourse in that spinn-off i want to see more love dovey parts of Jiwon and Jeong U.

I also really liked that they adressed the harsh world of celebs in Korea. Not to much, just enough to make a statement.

If you haven't watched it yet, hurry and go!!

WOW

I love the title, characters, and the first two episodes are fantastic. The gaze is apparent in this series. It's both cute and interesting, and the pace is perfect. It is not BORING. I like that both characters seem to be uncovering something about themselves that they may have never felt or realized until this point. We don't have all the backstory of both characters yet, but we have enough, so it seems this will be a new journey for each of them, so to speak, and the audience, I think, will be happy. Right now, I am watching this series.

Halfway Through the series and it's looking AMAZING!

This series have had so much improvement form the first two episodes. At first, I thought it would be another mediocre BL destined to fall flat with a mid rating of 7 stars, but oh boy was I wrong. Sure, the characters still need to improve their acting (especially Jiwon) but the main characters have so much sexual tension it just completely makes up for the awkward acting. The storyline isn't complicated like the other BLs and the characters aren't all over the place which I like; though I hope the story develops a bit deeper because it lacks proper development, we need a more stretched timeline to understand where the feelings came from (hopefully it does that on the last remaining episodes).

I think what makes this stand out and why people like it is because of the characters, a typical BL has this stereotype of a mean top and a fragile sub which honestly is so boring nowadays, this however, breaks that stereotype. The misunderstandings are there but it isn't major and is quickly fixed, the feelings of both characters are acknowledged and not put aside, they know what they like and the decisions that has to be made. Truly, this is such a cute and fresh take. I'm hopeful that it keeps this trajectory up until the very last episode!

Korean series as usual very good.
Good story, unforced, acting very good, director too. There is a story, an action unfolds…
What more can be said and not agree?
It asks me for 300 characters and everything is said in 150.
Everything else I would say is redundant. What has been said is enough!

Cute, Sweet Story

This is a short series, but definitely worth a watch if you like BLs on the sweeter side. The relationship is cute, the characters are good together and they have a chemistry that is sweet to watch. There is only one steamy scene and it isn’t more than pg-13. This story definitely focuses on the emotional aspect of their relationship over the physical aspect. If you like cutesy BLs with only a hint of spice, definitely watch this one.

Ball Boy Tactics

The love scene — the generic sound design was absolutely atrocious. Here's a clear example that slow doesn't always equal sensual. I understand that the show might be trying to showcase its actors in a way that appeals to a horny teenage girls, but please, please… could you take a step back from doing it so obviously? Maybe five steps. Or fifteen. Thank you.

Surprise, surprise — aside from that, everything else was acted well. In my vocabulary, this is a well-told story. Every actor with even the slightest importance brought their A-game. The picture quality, character styling, group dynamics, cinematography… all of it was solid, often even above that.

But the love scene? If I’m being kind, it felt like you were trying too hard: too much time spent saying nothing new, showing nothing we haven’t seen a million times before. If I’m not being kind, it felt uncomfortably close to selling young boys to lewd gazes — the music, the long camera takes, and the overall directorial style of this scene didn’t help the case, even if the acting remained decent.

I was honestly worried, with the two-episodes-per-week format, that these last two episodes would fall flat. But no — they were very well done, aside from this one misstep. I’m positively surprised, enough so that I would place this series among the best of the year, for me at least.

A delight!

What an absolute joy watching this little series was!
I went into watching this with no particular expectations and found myself very pleasantly surprised at how much I ended up liking this show.
Sure, it didn't revolutionise the genre or explore any particularly serious topics, but for a simple romantic drama veering into rom-com territory, it well exceeded expectations.

The story is simple but very well-paced, the performances and cinematography are excellent, and the writing is absolutely perfect. The dialogue is realistic but fun, and the humour is spot-on - I found myself chuckling heartily (and sometimes choking on my own mirth) more than once per episode.
The show also handles its climactic conflict a lot more subtly and skillfully than many others of the genre. No grand dramatics or misunderstandings, just somewhat flawed characters with differing viewpoints. I enjoyed it a lot!
The only "criticism" I can think to make is that the final NC scene felt a bit too drawn out for my taste.
However since that is very much a matter of opinion and the show is overall fantastic at portraying intimacy and physical affection, I don't consider this a major draw-back in any way.

All in all, this story feels like a fresh take on well-established tropes with a cast of highly likeable characters, solid writing, and a delightful sort of self-aware charm that elevates it above many other productions. If you're into rom-coms or just looking for a light, binge-able drama then Ballboy Tactics is the show for you!

Fluffin cute series all round!

I was afraid the story would follow the same old format that's just so overused. My fear came true, but it was oddly satisfying. From the start, I loved the main couple's chemistry. The story progressed at the right speed, given its short runtime. I like how the finale completely threw out the expected outcome of the couple being together in the open--no paparazzi or negative online buzz. That allowed me to enjoy the fluff and cute moments. This further added to the rewatch value, which is why I'm making Ball Boy Tactics my go-to pick-me-up series when I feel lonely.

Cute and Fluffy Lighthearted Series!!

This series got my attention from the start because of the two ML. The couple scenes and their dialogs were so cute and fluffy, Chemistry was chemistryfing. Especially the actor who played Jeong Wu, he was too perfect for this role.

Why should you give this series a try - The plot is nothing new but the couple scenes were cute enough to enjoy the series from the start to end and they have proper kiss scenes in multiple episodes and they have an additional NC scene in KBL.

Hope the second couple will have their own story in a separate series or in season 2
