Revenged Love

逆爱 ‧ Drama ‧ 2025
-Aprillen-:

It's funny, because most places in the world (including China) were a lot more diverse and accepting when it comes to sexuality and even gender expression—until the western colonisers arrived and spread their western religion-based homophobia. Now most countries in the world that ban homosexuality are doing so based on colonial era laws. Some countries have repealed those laws as part of decolonising themselves. But others persist in sticking to colonial values that were forced upon them by Europeans.

Homophobia is in fact the real colonism. Not diversity.

Actually it is not true. In China the facts surrounding Emperor Ai are only legends even the cutting sleeve thing. There is no official record of him being homosexual or such. In the official Chinese records it is stated that he had Dong Xian, not that he was his lover. They stated he served as a male concubine in The Book of Han, but never calling him lover.

I never said anything about Emperor Ai, did I? There are lots of other stories from China about men being in love with other men. Even if none of them can be factually verified, just the fact that all these legends exist proves that homo- or bisexuality was something people knew about and considered to be commonplace. More interesting is the fact that there's a Chinese god of homosexuality, the Rabbit God Tu'er Shen. Obviously there's no temple to him in mainland China, but there is one in Taiwan.

Homophobia arrived in China with western missionaries. Prior to that, homosexual love might not have had anything like equal status with heterosexual love, but it was certainly viewed as something that existed in human beings, and was not considered a sin or a crime. And this still holds true, especially among the younger generations in China. Homophobic hate crime is much less common in China than in the so-called "woke" West.

Well, not completely true. Confucianism has always stated traditional family and social hierarchy ( which I support). I agree about the fact that it was not considered a crime and with the fact that nowadays it is not a crime in China, but China won't ever become "woke". Missionaries were even banned by Emperor Kangxi, and even Emperor Qianlong allowed them only to teach Maths etc and never Christian propaganda. The Taiping Kingdom was collateral and due to colonialism, because Qing China weakened and westeners used drug as opium to overcome the issue.
In China you can live freely as an homosexual in real life, but personally I disagree to make it a party or a show. Who you love should be private and not public, because society is a thing, private thing is another thing. In Shenzhen security make a man change clothes when he wore a skirt publicy because the skirt did not cover private parts so well as pants.
