Four Hands, Two Sonatas

After 'TEACH YOU A LESSON' this is the only drama i am actually interested in. as i am a fan of song kang works i was very excited abt this drama nd the first 2 episode didn't disappoint me. the starting was great showing the present nd then showing the backstory. till now there was no rivalry btw them but i think from epi3 it will have someone intense scenes. Lee Jun-young is js too good, like i have always loved his acting nd i think in this drama also he will be fab. in 1st epi we can see how we alwys judge privilege ppl without knowing anything nd how they r under so much pressure of being always good nd perfectionists nd all shits. i js hope tht they give more screen timing to Jang Gyu-ri character also, coz in epi2 she didn't had tht much. i js hope it doesn't get boring in middle after a good start off.. seems promising but lets see

Not BL

Writing this review with not even knowing the complete drama , is a bit much.
But the first episode really grabbed my attention.

Lee Jun Young. Once again proved why he is such a good actor.. i have not seen many korean actors , especially male actors who can play so many different type of characters. He hasn't dropped the ball yet . I have watched a few of his dramas and i really think he needs more hype, in fact i really hope other directors see the Gold this man has to offer..

On the opposite side I usually see Song in the same type of character vibe... i really would like to see him in something completely out of his normal characters. He plays the serious and mysterious characters so well , but just to break away from those types of roles and be a bit more eccentric.


Over all i am impressed with this kdrama , i honestly had a deep fear of it Being a BL , just because lee yun is someone you can romanticise 🤣 so thank goodness for that. But over all emotions, intensity and captivating experience all around.

If It Walks Like a Duck

The series opens with a poorly executed in medias res: within minutes, we are shown an apparent death, only for the story to retreat into flashbacks layered inside other flashbacks. The result is not complexity, but confusion. Eventually, you find yourself looking at a character without knowing which timeline you are in, whether he is still alive, whether you are watching a memory, or when any of this is actually happening.

The tonal incompatibility makes things worse. You cannot open with an apparent murder and, fifteen minutes later, expect everyday problems at a music school to carry the same dramatic weight. The tension the opening worked so hard to create simply evaporates.

What initially looks like a story about talent, competition, privilege, and the world of classical music quickly becomes the usual blender of family hierarchies, an authoritarian grandfather, parental debt, loan sharks, humiliation, romance, trauma, and melodrama. The piano, meanwhile, is almost incidental.

And that is particularly frustrating because there is a much better story hiding underneath all of this: two exceptionally talented young men, one with every resource available to develop his potential, and another who cannot afford the luxury of pursuing his talent because he actually has to make a living. That conflict alone could have carried the series.

Instead of exploring it, the drama keeps adding complications.

If I need a flowchart and a notebook just to figure out which timeline I'm watching, the writer has failed at one of the most fundamental rules of storytelling: clarity.

A beautifully complicated bond

It is one of those series where, it is difficult not to notice the emotional intensity between its two main characters. While the adaptation introduces a female lead and does not openly frame itself as a BL, the heart of the story remains centered on the deep connection between Pi-O and Jeong Yo.

The series follows two young pianists who are almost complete opposites. Pi-O is technically brilliant, disciplined, and capable of achieving perfection, but somewhere along the way he loses the emotional connection that makes music truly meaningful. Jeong Yo, meanwhile, has the passion and sensitivity of a true artist, but struggles with confidence and the technical skills needed to fully express himself.

Pi-O gives Jeong Yo structure and confidence, while Jeong Yo reminds Pi-O that music is also about emotion. The strongest part of the series is the bond between the two leads. Their relationship develops through shared struggles, admiration, competition, and moments where they constantly challenge and support each other. There is a constant push and pull between them, and the chemistry between the actors makes their connection feel especially powerful. Whether interpreted as friendship, artistic partnership, or something deeper, their attachment to one another is clearly the emotional center of the story.

The series also does an interesting job exploring the idea that some people become essential parts of our lives. Pi-O and Jeong Yo are stronger together than they are apart, and the story repeatedly shows how deeply they affect each other’s identities, dreams, and healing.

Although this adaptation seems hesitant to fully embrace its BL origins and adds elements that make it harder to define, the emotional intimacy between the two protagonists remains impossible to ignore. Their bond carries a sense of longing and somewhat devotion that goes beyond a typical friendship dynamic, while still leaving room for viewers to interpret it in their own way.

With strong performances, beautiful themes, and a story that balances warmth with heartbreak, this is an emotional watch. It can be enjoyed as a story about music and friendship, but also as a story about two people who, in many ways, complete each other.

A story about music, friendships, and rivalries

This drama has had an excellent start. Ever since I heard it was premiering, it's been the one I've been most looking forward to (plus, the finale airs on my birthday, how exciting!). As a pianist, this series really appealed to me. So far, it's going well, and I hope it continues this way. I like that it doesn't focus on a love triangle, but rather on friendship instead of romance. Another point I liked is how it focused on the family situations of our protagonists and how they struggle day after day; it's very realistic, and that contemporary touch definitely gives the drama a great style. The actors were fantastic, and Jang Gyu-ri was undoubtedly the funniest with her character's energy. So I have high expectations and hope it continues like this. 🎹
