The Potential Was There… Somewhere.

Shows like this always make me wonder who the target audience is, because it doesn’t seem aimed at people who are familiar with gaming, given how little effort was put into making the gaming setting feel authentic. But at the same time, so much of the story still revolves around gaming that I can’t imagine viewers who aren’t interested in games finding those parts particularly engaging either. I think this reflects my main issue with the writing as a whole: the lack of authenticity. The show seems to expect viewers to simply accept whatever it throws at them, whether it makes sense or not, and unfortunately, that extends to the characters and their relationships as well.

I think stories like this live and die by their characters and relationships, especially the team dynamics and rivalries with other teams. So I could have overlooked the lack of realism in the gaming setting if the script had made up for it elsewhere, but unfortunately, it didn’t.

The story lacked meaningful relationship development beyond the main romance, and most of the side characters remained too surface-level for me to become invested in them. If you’re not going to deliver a particularly strong story, you should at least put more effort into building a cast of characters that feel real and make you want to root for them. The main romance was cute at first, and I was genuinely entertained by Three’s somewhat eccentric personality, but it simply wasn’t enough to carry 10 episodes. I found myself caring less with each episode, and what should have been a fun and easy watch slowly turned into a chore.

In the end, this didn’t work for me, not only as someone who loves video games but also as someone who values nuanced characterizations and authentic storytelling.

A Refreshing New BL

Honestly, every now and then a show comes along and just completely sets a new standard. Be My Player Two doesn't just try to mix a cute modern romance with the chaotic, high-stakes world of gaming it pulls it off flawlessly. From the writing to the aesthetic, everything about this show hits the mark perfectly.

The story is incredibly well-done. It actually respects gaming culture instead of just using it as a lazy background prop. You get a real look at the intense training, the strategy, and the massive pressure of the pro league, all wrapped around a super mature, moving love story.

The pacing is spot on. No filler, zero wasted scenes. The tension builds naturally alongside the tournament season, but the show still takes its time during the quiet, emotional moments

When a chinese company takes over...

we get a really crappy script, over-driven comedy which glides into infantile territory. I don't get it when girls/women get into this shit. This feels just as an advertisment for a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game plus the typical ads for a drink.

The only positive I can say is Bas looking the cutest in this series. But that's all the positive there is. Background music is recycled, we already heard it in other shows (not the songs). Emotionally it's quite flat, everything is dumbed down for some reason. As an adult I can't handle this crap at all. Most of the time it's just cringe. Production was also lazy because streaming does not work like they showed... It's completely unbelievable. As a gamer affine person this is an affront to me. But I guess it does not matter, most women have no clue, and they just like their ship together and everything is fine. Otherwise I can't explain the high rating of this show. Only the skip button saved me to go through this. Some good scenes can't fix this series at all.

For me it was an utter disappointment... This series is a waste of time. This is the cut version, so an automatic 0.5 deduction is applied.

Literal amaze

Even though only episode 1 has been released, Im POSITIVE that this is going as a 1000/10 on my list. The comedy will surely make you laugh all over the place. The subtle romance will give you butterflies. Maxky and Bas didn't disappoint one bit. Seeing Maxky so lively after his whole nonchalant persona in Fourever You really shook me! I suggest everyone to pick this show up if you love sweet romcoms❤️

MaxkyBas saved this drama

The story of this drama is pretty basic compared to boss and babe which had its own ups and downs. I think it was kinda expected cz people weren't that interested in the 2nd couple in Boss and Babe. Gmmtv did a good job not making this one cz it's only thanks to MaxkyBas's quirky cute acting did i watch this drama. That's basically what made it entertaining.

The story does have a lot of gaming scenes so in the middle a lot of us did get bored. It's a simple story so u can't blame anyone. They've had a 10 ep drama so u can't say they had to reduce the number of eps.

One thing i liked about the drama was how Maxky was just being himself as Three🤣🤣 and Soh damn he was soo freaking adorable throughout the drama.

Another thing that was quiet a surprise to me was how they closed the loop with boss and babe. The series ends with where boss and babe starts with gun asking cher to remake his drink n in the epilog they show the end of boss and babe that is the tournament cher and friends decide to join after GunCher get together and the team's problems are resolved.

Overall although not great it's a good drama for a one time watch. I won't be rewatching this one

.

This was a cute and fun watch, but it didn’t completely steal my heart. 🥹🤍 I enjoyed watching Maxky and Bas together, and their chemistry definitely had some lovely moments. 🎮💕
There were parts I really liked, but I also found myself wishing for a little more. Still, an enjoyable BL and definitely worth the watch! 🌸✨
7/10 from me! ⭐💖

would have worked better as a standalone story

in terms of being a prequel, this story doesn't really do ABAAB justice. there's little to no connection between the two stories apart from the names of characters and the gaming theme.

my main point of conjuncture is that Three as character comes across as really stagnant when you look at ABAAB and BMPT together. In episode 6, Three explodes at his team for not playing well, but then some self-reflection (with the help of Soh) leads to an apology. Likewise, in ABAAB, Thi gets into a fight with Cher and Jack about them not taking the gaming seriously, which again is later resolved after some self-reflection (also again with the help of Zo). It's the same fight, same argument, same resolution but allegedly years apart, which makes it seem like Three has not grown at all as a person.

personally, I think the story would have done better (in my eyes) if it hadn't tried to fit itself into this universe and was just a BL about gaming. the plot is there (mostly. some of the gaming things are not as developed/researched as they should be, but I'm not picky I swear), but it pigeonholes itself into being a prequel unnecessarily.

also, I just find it hard to believe as an ABAAB fan that Jack was in a relationship the whole time but never mentioned his boy Ten once? Nor does anyone mention Praew or Tobtub's wife and baby? I think they added to many important characters just to have them disappear from the story. I think the reason I find it to be such a letdown is because I'm focusing on the fact that it's supposed to be a prequel. If I didn't have these expectations, the story would have appealed to me more.

but enough negatives. MaxkyBas chemistry still on point, I like how different Maxky's character is from Fourever You. Bas's characters between the stories were similar but I liked them both. their acting and chemistry is the glue holding this show together. actually all of the acting in this show was exceptional. wish we could've gotten some BeverTonliew moments given both are in this show but it's okay. the rage I felt when we learn about Ten and Three's backstory was very real, kudos to anything that can make me feel emotions lol. new series for Jay and Ben because their dynamic is solid. pretty fluffy and fun, Maxky's character had me chuckling, he's so extra.

overall 7.5 for me :)

Boring

I originally tuned in solely for MaxyBas, but the show became so boring that my sister dropped it after episode 7. Honestly, even their chemistry felt forced and strictly for the cameras. While they had a few cute moments, it just felt like pure acting, lacking the genuine familiarity and emotional intensity they shared in Fourever You. As a non-gamer, I also found the gaming subplots dragged on for far too long. The saving grace for me was Gunner, I really love him, and the few scenes he shared with his partner were the highlights of the show.

MaxkyBas were great. I just wasn't the audience for this particular kind of show.

I think Maxky and Bas are genuinely one of the funniest Thai BL pairings I've come across, and they also have a chemistry that feels incredibly natural to me. They already stood out to me in Fourever You, so when they were announced as the leads of their own series, I was really excited.

I also really liked how different their characters are from the ones they played in Fourever You. It almost feels like their personalities have been completely flipped. Bas, who was so cheeky and confident there, plays a much more shy and nerdy character here, while Maxky goes from the cool and mysterious type to someone loud, chaotic and completely over the top. I thought that was really fun to watch, especially because both of them pull off the switch so well.

I was also genuinely interested in the gaming setting, especially because I'm at least somewhat familiar with gaming myself. I had hoped the series would make the competitive side exciting even for someone who isn't deeply involved in esports. Unfortunately, I often felt like the gaming storyline was aimed more at people who already enjoy that world, and it never managed to pull me in emotionally the way I had hoped.

So this isn't really a case of Be My Player Two being a bad fit for MaxkyBas. Quite the opposite — I think the series uses their strengths very well. I just realised that their particular brand of comedy and the way the gaming story is told aren't quite my thing.

Comparation with the book

Be My Player Two is set in the fast-paced world of competitive e-sports, and follows Thi and Zo.

Thi, known online as "THR33," is an elite streamer celebrated for his top-tier skills, intense competitive drive, and notoriously sharp tongue. His pride takes a massive hit when he suffers an embarrassing defeat live on stream against an anonymous rookie going by "DERYA MK12." The loss happens in front of thousands of viewers, and Thi becomes obsessed with tracking down whoever embarrassed him — but the winner never shows his face, so all Thi has is a username.

Determined to reclaim his honor and prove the loss was a fluke, Thi tracks down the real person behind the name: a shy college student named Zo. He challenges the rookie to a rematch to settle the score once and for all, and Zo agrees, too scared to risk the anger of Thi or his fans. Thi sets the terms himself — if Zo loses, he has to show his face on camera. For someone who's spent this whole time hiding behind a username specifically to avoid that kind of attention, it's the worst possible outcome.

But as the duel unfolds, Thi's expectations are shattered. Far from being a fluke or an arrogant troll, Zo shows real mechanical skill, sharp tactical focus, and a calm under pressure that genuinely earns Thi's respect. Thi wins anyway, and Zo has to make good on the deal — except he has one trick left. He shows up wearing a bear head, technically complying without actually revealing himself. Thi lets it go. The two become friends after that, but only online: Thi respects Zo's privacy and never actually sees his face.

Then an important tournament comes up, and Thi's team, BS Brothers, is missing an essential player. Thi realizes that Zo's play style naturally complements his own aggressive one — and that the rival he once wanted to crush might be exactly who the team needs. So he goes hunting for the man behind the username all over again, and this time, he finally succeeds in unmasking him.

Zo still doesn't say yes easily. His hesitation about going pro is tangled up with a traumatic past and his own shy, guarded personality. When he finally agrees, it's on one condition: his identity stays secret. He'll fight for the team, bear head and all.

As the two train together under high pressure, their early friction melts into a real partnership — and slowly, being teammates turns into something more. But just as they're trying to manage what they feel for each other, a new problem arrives: Ten, a member of the rival team Blue Viper, starts trying to recruit Zo for himself. To complicate things further, Ten has history with both Thi and Jack — history that was never resolved.

So how does it all end? Does BS Brothers win the championship? Can Thi and Jack's relationship with Ten ever be fixed? And can Thi and Zo figure out what they are to each other before the tournament forces the answer out of them?

That's pretty much the story without giving anymore spoilers.

For me this drama has quite a lot of differences from the book. But first let's discuss what I love and don't love about the drama.

What I love:
+ How CUTE my Bas. Oh my gosh, he's a lot cuter here than in Fourever You.
+ The tournament is quite interesting. Once more the drama makes me want to play the Mobile Legend Game.
+ The friendship between BS brothers is also great.
+ Thi’s relationship with his family.

What I don't like:
+ Maxky is too much. I don't like Thi character at all. It makes the drama overall become too exaggerated & childish. I don't think it's Maxky fault though, I blame it more on the director's direction.
+ They make it all only about boy's love. Like how they ‘force’ Jack & Ten relationship, and also about how they erase Thi ex-girlfriend.

Overall if I need to summarize the drama in one sentence, I think it's too exaggerated & just too childish for me. If not because of how cute Bas was, I don't think I'll finish this drama at all… Haha…

Now I'll talk about the difference with the book. If you don't want to know, just stop reading until here…

==================================================
SPOILER ALERT!!!
==================================================

The changes:
* My biggest disappointment is that thi's ex-girlfriend character, Belle, was removed from the storyline. In my opinion, keeping Belle in the picture would have brought more color and depth to the story. It also would have given the drama a different point of view than most other BL dramas offer.
* They only feature one game throughout the drama. I understand it’s probably difficult to get permission to use multiple games, but it would have been better if they’d stuck closer to whatever game was used in the book instead. I kinda want to see that game instead of another Mobile Legend.
* In the book, Ten & Jack's relationship is purely platonic & still has a little grudge till the end. And Ten is actually kinda annoying in the book, so yeah Ten’s character is better in the drama than the book.
* The book the characters feeling, Thi & Zo, are have more depth. But the drama talks more about friendship & their goup as total package

Maxky and Bas Shine Brightly in an Otherwise Forgettable Esports Rom-Com

Be My Player Two relies almost entirely on the undeniable charm and star power of Maxky and Bas to pull a flimsy, poorly paced narrative across the finish line. Their chemistry as THR33 and Soh is top-tier, delivering a delightful "hyper, funny boyfriend meets calm, grounding boyfriend" dynamic that brings genuine warmth to the screen. Maxky in particular stands out with brilliant comedic timing and high-energy charisma that makes his character immensely likeable, while the entire cast delivers strong, believable performances from start to finish. Unfortunately, the writing behind the esports plot falls drastically short. Despite an intriguing baseline concept involving gaming teams, stream culture, and past drama, the execution feels generic, disjointed, and structurally weak. The storyline lacks the substance needed to justify a 10-episode run, often feeling stretched so thin and scattered that watching at double speed becomes the only way to push through the mid-series lulls. While the overarching narrative is a forgettable, easily skippable affair, Maxky and Bas’s delightful dynamic offers enough sweet breadcrumbs to make it an easy, lightweight guilty pleasure for dedicated fans of the pair.
