The chemistry, the emotions, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the tiny details in every scene… EVERYTHING felt so real and full of love. I laughed, cried, screamed, paused scenes just to breathe, and then replayed them again because I was too obsessed to move on 😭
This drama became my forever favorite. Not just a show, but an experience. The production team deserves endless praise because you can FEEL how much care and passion was poured into every episode. I genuinely want to meet the director one day just to personally say thank you for creating something this beautiful. And the main leads???? Oh my god. Their acting, their expressions, their connection… absolutely unforgettable. They made me believe every single emotion.
I’m so emotionally attached to these characters that finishing the season felt like losing a part of myself 😭 And now I’m sitting here desperately waiting for Season 2 because I genuinely cannot let them go yet.
Sammy’s Children Day is not just my favorite BL drama anymore — it’s THE standard. The comfort, the pain, the love, the longing… no other drama has hit me this hard.
Forever obsessed. Forever waiting. Forever in love. 🖤

He chengxi excellent profomance and is his co actors in the series [ Sammy's children's day ]
I honestly did not expect Sammy’s Children’s Day to affect me this deeply, but this drama completely exceeded every expectation I had. From the first episode to the last, everything about it felt emotional, cinematic, and unforgettable. What makes this drama so special is that it is not just another romance story. It feels like an emotional journey set inside a dangerous and broken world. The 1980s Hong Kong atmosphere, the gang setting, the emotional tension, the loyalty, and the sacrifice all come together beautifully. Every episode carried emotional weight and felt meaningful.
The chemistry between He Changxi and He Yanchao is honestly one of the strongest chemistries I have seen in a BL drama. Their acting felt incredibly natural, and many scenes did not even need dialogue because their expressions and body language already said everything. The emotional connection between them felt genuine, deep, and powerful.
One of my favorite things was how naturally the relationship developed. Nothing felt rushed. You could slowly feel the trust growing between them through small moments — the silent protection, the worried looks, the jealousy, the vulnerability, and the quiet care they showed each other. Watching them slowly become each other’s safe place in such a cruel world made the emotional scenes hit even harder.
He Changxi gave such a calm and emotionally layered performance. He made his character feel gentle, intelligent, and quietly strong at the same time. Every expression felt meaningful, even in silence, and you could feel the emotions underneath every scene.
He Yanchao was incredible as well. He balanced danger and softness perfectly, making his character unforgettable. His protective nature, emotional vulnerability, and deep attachment to Chu San made many scenes genuinely heartbreaking because his emotions felt so real.
The cinematography also deserves huge praise. The neon lights, rainy streets, dark alleyways, and vintage Hong Kong atmosphere created such an immersive world. Every frame felt carefully crafted and emotionally meaningful, making the drama feel far more cinematic than a typical series.
What I loved most is how emotionally mature the story feels. The romance is not only about attraction — it is about trust, healing, survival, loyalty, and finding comfort in another person while living in darkness. That is what makes the relationship feel so much deeper and more memorable.
The soundtrack, storytelling, pacing, and emotional atmosphere blended together perfectly. There were so many scenes that stayed in my mind long after I finished the episodes because the emotions felt so genuine.
What truly made this drama unforgettable for me is how human the characters felt. Both characters carry loneliness, fear, pain, and emotional scars, but through each other they slowly begin to heal. Watching that journey felt beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
Sammy’s Children’s Day is emotional, intense, beautifully acted, visually stunning, and deeply memorable. The actors gave incredible performances, and their chemistry created something truly special.
This is not just a drama you watch and forget. It is one of those stories that stays with you long after it ends.

The combination of action, comedy, romance and crime story works on so many levels. The 2 MLs are brimming with chemistry. I honestly can't see how this ends well with the main ML being a gang leader, but I definitely want to experience the full ride. I'll continue the review as the movie progresses so ignore whatever I put next just to make the word quota xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxcxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxcccxcccxc Was this review helpful to you?

I have to see the premiere of season 2 to believe that this series will have a season 2
DisclaimerWhat I am writing here are my views and thoughts about this series. Some of you may not like it. That does not give you the right to try to come at me with your opinions on why this series should get a higher or lower score and why it is better/worse than I think it is. You have your own opinions, and I have mine. Kindly respect that. I fell in love with getting to know the world of He Chu San and Xia Liu Yi. Their relationship didn't start off as your typical love story, as Xia Liu Yi saw He Chu San as his underling. But as time progressed, so did their relationship. It was truly a slow burn, and I got truly wrapped up in this series even down to the last episode. The actors did a wonderful job in bringing these characters alive to the screen for us viewers. I will also say that I wasn't expecting much, so I am really surprised with the outcome.
Now, while this series was entertaining, it has left us wanting more. The ending is not truly satisfying, as the main couple are not fully together as yet. Also, the secondary couple kind of left us wanting more, as it seems that their storyline needs to be dealt with, as it has been left unfinished. Now, here's the thing – there are talks about a second season. But I have become sceptical of this as I have suffered many, many burns of promises of second seasons that do not come true (The On1y One is the most recent one that is coming to my mind). As such, I have to see the premiere of season 2 to believe that we will get a season 2 and that's why I am giving this series an 8.

Slow burn. Chemistry. Questions. Open ended
If rewatch, only the last 2 ep.The build up, the focus, the people . The chemistry. The wanting each other. The desperate to not lose the other
Could be unpopular opinion but i feel like the police was a bit redundant . The 2nd lead couple other than a 1st night that was calculated approach for the high position cop to do revenge. There was only tension and blackmail and schemes.
They also destroy the happy moment at the end.
Slow burn
Genuine between the 1st lead pair.
Went thru alot and both ML had a deep history as to why they behave certain way.
Emotions high at fear in losing a loved one.
Reunited and happy tears.
Seperated again for a setup and frame.
Watch but basically many questions.
The only reasons i liked it :
*chusan and jiayi finally got the happiness and was honest with each other although it was fear of losing the other so seize the chance
*the brotherhood amongst liuyi gang really shows how good the leaders are
*both were honest at the end.
*liuyi understood how impt chusan is , more than the hall .chips n breakfast stuff shohld b okay
Why i dont like [cause it reduces the 2 ML time and interaction]
* too much focus on gang politics
*police was useless and only cause more trouble and drama
* bribery corruption connection climbing fake lies
*the ending is open ended... the fat fang.q the dad . The maybe new mum. Liuyi reunite with chusan . Hows the gang.
* they really lost the ancesteal hall??
*hate when the good ones die like bro n sis
* the whole series liuyi is basically accused for different people murder

GIVE ME ANOTHER SEASON!!
THIS WAS SO GOOD!the story of a university nerd and a gangster falling in love with each other in the 1980’s lawless Hong Kong . pretty simple, but executed so beautifully.
the acting of both main leads was so good. and THE CHEMISTRY was INSANE! not to mention how incredibly good looking they both are🥹
i love how it breaks the sterotypes about the couple’s dynamics, and the cutie nerd is the one dominating the gangster here 😂
the cinematography was amazing! i loved seeing the 1980’s Hong Kong setting. and the color grading was so beautiful 🥹 the osts were so beautiful too. I fell in love with the drama from the opening song alone! and then i found out that the actor Yan Zhao sang jt himself?? that made me love him and the song even more🥹
the only thing I didn’t like was the dubbing. the super fake noises and out of sync dialogues was pretty off putting to me. but I understand that they had their limitations, and weren’t able to provide the best dubbing.
that ending though…THEY BETTER GIVE US A SEASON 2 😭😭

Slow burn if i ever did see a slow burn
I hate slow burns as I am impatient but this one was easy to watch but now I am sitting here eagerly waiting for more sweating, anxious, screaming, crying, throwing up. At least they are now on the same page about liking each other. 9 episodes and they only kiss AGGHHH. I just finished 4minutes and kinnporshe so this is like a teen drama when you compare the romance between the main characters lol.I really like the story though so I'm glad that it does not just ride off of the relationship between the mcs it actually builds a world and other characters and a decent plot and I'm interested in it all. Please season 2 come soon T.T

Sometimes it feels like I watched a different show...
You ever feel that way? You see all the hype and love for a show and then when you watch it, and you feel like you watched a completely different series. Here's my take on it.I was in it for the vibes of 80's gangster craziness, especially when they brought out those brick cell phones and suit jackets with shoulder pads, that completely disappeared by episode 5. But by episode 5 I'm was in it for the long haul. Which to me, impacted my liking of the main couple and show overall. As a montage 80's style gangster movie, it wasn't so ridiculous to think the ML could be a secretly kindhearted individual, but going into drama mode with a more serious tone made the love story clash with the plot(s) because there's no freaking way a leader of a Triad would be that way in a more drama focused story telling.
I don't understand the hype this couple has based on all the comments also. The slow burn romance is a bit too slow burn and nothing really happens until closer to the end of episode 8, but that's also because the ML's really don't interact alone together through most of the show. The ML's really needed more one on one time to build a deeper relationship to make it feel more reasonable why episode 9 happened the way it did. That's not to say they didn't have good chemistry, their interactions felt fluid and natural, not forced or uncomfortable at all. But I wouldn't say it was butterflies in my stomach or sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation of them being on screen together levels. If you want some good anticipation and amazing chemistry between two characters, go watch To My Shore, it won't disappoint but it is dark as hell.
I actually liked what everyone else seems to dislike, the introduction of the police as the next plot point. I felt like this was better for the overall story then the continued gang conflict that really wasn't working any more for the change in tone. Story progress picked up at episode 8, which is what made the ending of episode 9 so jarring. The twist, in my opinion, really wasn't much of a twist.
Overall if you enjoy watching absolute craziness that tapers off into a slow burn romance drama, this is probably a great show for you. But if you are looking for that craziness all the way through, sorry but this show will disappoint. I don't think this was a terrible show and I enjoyed every second of it for it's intention and ambition, but I definitely don't agree with the majority of reviews this show has gotten.

Love for chusan?liuyi?
Series was awesome, i love both main and support characters and also acting was good too but i am really disappointed with end of the series. i didn't get why you end it like this, ending was totally unclear it's actually was the start for both couples, i was expecting 2-3 more episodes which should have show more romance between them and also that case should have solved now i was hoping that you make season 2 which continue this story ahead end with more clarity.💜💜💜💜💜Was this review helpful to you?

The chemistry is SO good, but the plot wasn't good enough
This could have been so much better if they gave us more episodes and developed the characters. But the last two eps ended up being too rushed and it felt so anti-climatic it was awful.BUT their chemistry is AMAZING and I need to see them in more stuff immediately!!
The side plot with the police officers were suddenly introduced and we didn't get much about them, I really wish we could've seen their characters flushed out to their full!
Overall a decent watch but always a first considering this is my first BL from Hongkong !!

What Happened? (Warning spoiler)
Was that the end of part one?An episode ended as usual … yet it was the last episode … apparently that’s it, the end.
No outcome for the current gang wars, no (actual) couple development, and no resolution for the two unsolved police officers murders.
It’s strange. My imaginations vast, but I couldn’t fathom this.
And I was enjoying the series. The main couple are mesmerising.
So disappointed in this extra wide open ending.
