I will not get over this. Ever.

I'm writing this review seconds after final credits. My heart is still racing. This series is incredible. In the short while that China has been making use of the loophole they found to be able to produce uncensored, they have managed to put out several amazing series, but this one takes the crown.

Everything is perfect to near perfect. It's setting in the old walled city in HK and the cinematographic opportunities this provided have been used magnificently. It looks gritty, dark but with a succinct 80's vibe. Some costume choices or props looked a bit off, but that happens to the best.

Story and story lines are clean, without loose threads or strange turns. The backstories make sense, and there is explicite room for an airy humorous note here and there. Sometimes subtle, sometimes not really but always fitting to the story.

The acting of all cast is great. From the main leads, the secondary leads up to the guest roles.. Perfection.

As is customary in BL, we find many tropes in this production. Heroic rescue (from a plant, no less), fate, confusion, unconscious kisses, etc. Most of these are acceptable I just found the unconscious kisses a bit meh. We don't kiss people that are not awake, dammit!

And while we are on the subject, the thing that really annoys me is the fact that the rooftop love scene is never mentioned again. Not in thought, not in flashbacks, not in conversation. It's like as soon as the sheets were cleaned, so was the memory. Like, whatt? Not only was this non-consensual, it was ignored. Bad move.

I loved the contrast between the main characters. One dorky in daily life but very forward in affection. The other a real life crime boss, but a shy and cute mess when it comes to love.

The development of the events and the relationship felt natural (if you can speak of natural in that kind of environment).

The last episode was really the climax we were building up to. The final kiss was truly epic. But there are loose ends that desperately need tying. The 2nd couple has no real closure. All they has was a hot encounter and some aggressive flirting. That's not ok.

What I loved most was the build-up, the visuals, the interactions between Liuyu and Chusan and the back stories. This really 'made' this drama for me.

Pleaseeee give us Season 2

This is such a masterpiece bl. The thing I loved the most is the visual storytelling. The way lighting is used adds meaning beyond the dialogue—contrasts, shadows, and brightness subtly reflect the inner worlds of the characters. You can sense who holds power, who is conflicted, and who is changing, just by how scenes are framed and lit. The acting, expressions, chemistry are all great. The pookie gangster and his nerdy bf have my whole heart. Every glance, every moment between them🤌🏻, it's the kind of chemistry u don't need words for, u can feel it in the silence, in the way they look at each other. The officers cp has such a different, intriguing kind of chemistry. The tension between them gives me butterflies. I really really really want Season 2 so much 😭🙏🏻.

So, please. Can we get Season 2? ?

I have a complete denial when it comes to watching dubbed Chinese series. 😂 And yet, somehow, Sammy’s Children’s Day became an exception.

Not only did I finish it… I actually wanted MORE. 😭

And the funny thing? It’s Cantonese! I still went for it, and honestly, I’m glad I did.

I really enjoyed the story. The way it explored the Hong Kong gang setting, especially the way they lure in this nerdy boy, was so interesting. But what really got me was the slow-burn emotion. It creeps up on you quietly, then suddenly you realize you’re completely invested. The tension was chilling, yet somehow soothing at the same time — the kind that just stays under your skin.

The production also deserves praise. Good budget, good direction, and a well-written script. Everything felt thoughtfully put together, and the story knew how to build its atmosphere without rushing things.

My only complaint?

IT FELT TOO SHORT. 😭

Just when I was getting comfortable and fully invested, it was already over. I was left sitting there thinking, “Wait… that’s it?! What happens next?!”

So, please. Can we get Season 2? 🙏

Because for me, this was genuinely good. It surprised me, pulled me in, and left me wanting more — which is probably the biggest compliment I can give a series I never expected to finish in the first place.

Good story. Good direction. Good production. Slow-burn emotions. And definitely too short.

Now give us Season 2, or else. 😤😂

SAMMY’S CHILDREN DAY literally ruined every other BL drama for me because HOW is anything supposed to compete with this masterpiece????? 😭😭😭

The chemistry, the emotions, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the tiny details in every scene… EVERYTHING felt so real and full of love. I laughed, cried, screamed, paused scenes just to breathe, and then replayed them again because I was too obsessed to move on 😭

This drama became my forever favorite. Not just a show, but an experience. The production team deserves endless praise because you can FEEL how much care and passion was poured into every episode. I genuinely want to meet the director one day just to personally say thank you for creating something this beautiful. And the main leads???? Oh my god. Their acting, their expressions, their connection… absolutely unforgettable. They made me believe every single emotion.

I’m so emotionally attached to these characters that finishing the season felt like losing a part of myself 😭 And now I’m sitting here desperately waiting for Season 2 because I genuinely cannot let them go yet.

Sammy’s Children Day is not just my favorite BL drama anymore — it’s THE standard. The comfort, the pain, the love, the longing… no other drama has hit me this hard.

Hong Kong I was not familiar with ur game!

I created this account just to show some love to my favorite BL so far. I'm extremely new to BL world but I don't finish series that I don't vibe with. In a few weeks I've checked out so many. Anyways in this series, both the lead Characters are equally so handsome, so cute, so adorable like hello how is that even possible while representing completely different background. Love the story, the setting, the cinematography, the pace. That love situation was so refreshing for me & didn't expect to see a major twist executed so beautifully. Anyone giving bad review to this series pls give me 3 series better than this bcuz I'm genuinely failing to find it anywhere. He chengxi excellent profomance and is his co actors in the series [ Sammy's children's day ]

I honestly did not expect Sammy’s Children’s Day to affect me this deeply, but this drama completely exceeded every expectation I had. From the first episode to the last, everything about it felt emotional, cinematic, and unforgettable.

What makes this drama so special is that it is not just another romance story. It feels like an emotional journey set inside a dangerous and broken world. The 1980s Hong Kong atmosphere, the gang setting, the emotional tension, the loyalty, and the sacrifice all come together beautifully. Every episode carried emotional weight and felt meaningful.

The chemistry between He Changxi and He Yanchao is honestly one of the strongest chemistries I have seen in a BL drama. Their acting felt incredibly natural, and many scenes did not even need dialogue because their expressions and body language already said everything. The emotional connection between them felt genuine, deep, and powerful.

One of my favorite things was how naturally the relationship developed. Nothing felt rushed. You could slowly feel the trust growing between them through small moments — the silent protection, the worried looks, the jealousy, the vulnerability, and the quiet care they showed each other. Watching them slowly become each other’s safe place in such a cruel world made the emotional scenes hit even harder.

He Changxi gave such a calm and emotionally layered performance. He made his character feel gentle, intelligent, and quietly strong at the same time. Every expression felt meaningful, even in silence, and you could feel the emotions underneath every scene.

He Yanchao was incredible as well. He balanced danger and softness perfectly, making his character unforgettable. His protective nature, emotional vulnerability, and deep attachment to Chu San made many scenes genuinely heartbreaking because his emotions felt so real.

The cinematography also deserves huge praise. The neon lights, rainy streets, dark alleyways, and vintage Hong Kong atmosphere created such an immersive world. Every frame felt carefully crafted and emotionally meaningful, making the drama feel far more cinematic than a typical series.

What I loved most is how emotionally mature the story feels. The romance is not only about attraction — it is about trust, healing, survival, loyalty, and finding comfort in another person while living in darkness. That is what makes the relationship feel so much deeper and more memorable.

The soundtrack, storytelling, pacing, and emotional atmosphere blended together perfectly. There were so many scenes that stayed in my mind long after I finished the episodes because the emotions felt so genuine.

What truly made this drama unforgettable for me is how human the characters felt. Both characters carry loneliness, fear, pain, and emotional scars, but through each other they slowly begin to heal. Watching that journey felt beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

Sammy’s Children’s Day is emotional, intense, beautifully acted, visually stunning, and deeply memorable. The actors gave incredible performances, and their chemistry created something truly special.
