Four Stars

Good first ep but hate that the crop was ruined that way. This ep was hilarious from the Director at the beginning punching behind Yu Bin's head and then throwing up hearts, to the crazy innuenedo scened with the German worker keaving to the car ride in the rain I was cracking up. I hope this stays a light fun dramedy. with romance.

Korean Screenplay, Japanese Humor: A Perfect Combination

Merry Berry Love (2026) — Episode 1: 5/5This J-drama is a collaboration between Japan and South Korea. Interestingly, according to the production credits, directors Noh Young Sub and Kim Soo Jung, as well as screenwriter Lee Jae Yoon, are Korean. However, since the series was produced for Japan's NTV network and features a predominantly Japanese supporting cast surrounding its Korean male lead, the gestures, comedic timing, and use of physical space immediately display the distinctive qualities of a J-drama.What I find particularly fascinating is how the Korean creative team adapts to the rhythm of the Japanese performers, allowing the comedy to flow naturally without feeling forced. The language barrier works wonderfully as a narrative device. It sets up the misunderstandings, but the Japanese cast's physical timing, facial expressions, and reactions are what actually deliver the punchlines.Japanese television has a well-established tradition of reaction-based comedy, where microexpressions, body language, and carefully timed pauses carry much of the humor. When these techniques are combined with a screenplay built around linguistic misunderstandings, comedy becomes more than an exchange of funny dialogue. It turns into something almost entirely visual. This makes the storytelling feel remarkably light and entertaining, since the audience doesn't need to decipher complicated verbal jokes. The humor comes directly from the characters' immediate, instinctive reactions.I found the first episode genuinely funny and thoroughly enjoyable, largely thanks to the female lead and that unforgettable taxi driver.5 out of 5 stars for the first episode.
