Visiting the Shima Peninsula to report on ama divers, Asami Mitsuhiko meets the simple and beautiful ama diver Natsumi and a kind man deeply devoted to his family, Motohashi. One day, former yakuza member and popular novelist Hakamada Keijiro is murdered. On the day of his death, Hakamada had apparently been on the phone in a nostalgic manner in the hotel lobby. Learning that no suspicious individuals were seen, Mitsuhiko becomes convinced that the killer is a local. A few days later, reporter Nomura from Tokyo dies mysteriously in Ago Bay on the Shima Peninsula.
