Asami Mitsuhiko Series 21 (2005)

Reporter Asami Mitsuhiko boards a ferry traveling from Tokyo to Tokushima for an assignment. On board is his friend Horinochi Yusaku, the ship’s first officer. During the voyage, Mitsuhiko meets a couple, Inada Noriyoshi and Moeko. Married two years earlier, the two are on their honeymoon, heading to Noriyoshi’s hometown of Fujinokawa Village in Kochi Prefecture. It is here that the first incident occurs: Noriyoshi, heavily intoxicated, falls overboard. Two years later, Mitsuhiko learns that Noriyoshi had been insured and that his wife, Moeko, received the insurance payout following his death. One Sunday, a man named Toyama, also originally from Fujinokawa Village, jumps to his death from a Tokyo apartment building. Horinochi recalls that Toyama had been aboard the same ferry when Noriyoshi fell and had behaved suspiciously at the time. He urges Mitsuhiko to investigate the case.
