The Crow Club Episode 7

Episode 7 — The Light and Shadow of Selling a Couple

Patti’s debut is finally within reach, but the strategy is to sell more than music: his chemistry with Ranne is part of the package. That becomes complicated when the person he is being paired with is the senior he has admired since high school. There is a lovely sweetness between them as Ranne begins to notice Patti’s feelings, even while Patti refuses to admit them. Meanwhile, the other band members are unhappy about being pushed into the background. The producer sees numbers, but those numbers come with an emotional cost.Just as their growing popularity brings an album release into view, someone starts digging into Patti’s life, and online attacks follow. This sounds like a problem the Crow Club might be well equipped to handle, but I hope the resolution also helps Patti find some confidence in himself.Their song is rather lovely, too. I do sometimes wonder how much the consistently polished vocals we hear owe to recording and pitch correction, although that does not stop me from enjoying the music. My favourite detail is Patti’s posture: such a big guy, yet he seems to make himself smaller by slouching. Then he smiles beside Ranne, and suddenly he looks so bright and endearing. That contrast makes me want to root for him.
