The Crow Club Has Opened Its Doors and These Four Couples Are in for One Wild Ride
My review is based on the trailer and Episode 1, so with another 15 episodes still to come, this is very much a first impression and I will update my review as the series progresses. The Crow Club has a fun and unusual concept. At the centre of everything is a mysterious club whose members are willing to solve all kinds of strange problems as long as the client is willing to pay. Exactly what kind of work they are prepared to accept is something I am really looking forward to discovering.We have a massive cast with nine main leads, including Cris as Linda, the only female lead and basically the leader of the pack. Then we have our eight BL leads forming four couples, with several familiar faces from Pit Babe. That is no surprise considering this comes from the same production company, Change2561. Instead of one main couple and a few side couples, this series gives us four different pairings with their own stories, personalities and relationship dynamics.
The four couples are:
Couple 1: Talay (Sailub) and Sun (Pon): Talay is the club manager while Sun is a romance novelist.
Couple 2: Van (Milk) and Rakkhun (Newyear): Van is an engineer while Rakkhun has the ability to see ghosts.
Couple 3: Phathee (Pop) and Ran (Title): Phathee is a singer while Ran is a trainee trying to enter the T Pop industry.
Couple 4: Taengmo (Otto) and Yoyeh (BJ): These two are exes, so unlike the other couples, there is already plenty of history and unresolved feelings between them.
What I really like is that all four couples feel completely different. We have romance, supernatural elements, the entertainment industry, ex lovers, action and dangerous missions all connected through The Crow Club. It almost feels like we are getting four different BL stories inside one larger series, which is refreshing compared with the usual setup of one main couple and one side couple.
I will admit that the first 50 minutes were A LOT to take in. Nine main characters, four couples and a mysterious club are all introduced at once, so I spent part of Episode 1 trying to remember everyone's names and how they were connected. Luckily, I am already familiar with all 8 male leads from watching their previous BL series, so it did not take me long to remember who was who. For viewers seeing these actors for the first time though, it might take an episode or two to get familiar with such a massive cast., I actually enjoyed the chaos. Having such a large cast makes the series feel busy and unpredictable, and thankfully we have a whopping 16 full length episodes to give everyone enough screen time. The series is available on Netflix with one episode per week, so we will be following this group all the way into early 2027!
The production itself made a strong first impression. I love the dark atmosphere of the club, the music is good, and the fighting scenes were surprisingly well done. There is a darker and more mature feeling here that separates it from the typical cute BL. I am especially curious about what other crazy, dangerous or supernatural jobs the club will accept. If you are going to give me a mysterious club filled with attractive men who will take on almost any job for money, then please make those missions as wild as possible!
The biggest challenge will obviously be balancing all four couples. Eight BL leads sharing one series is ambitious, and I do not want any couple to disappear for several episodes while another story takes over. However, having 16 full length episodes gives me confidence that there is enough time for each pairing to develop naturally. I also like that I do not have a favourite couple yet. Everyone brings something different, so I am interested to see which pairing eventually steals the show for me.
Overall, I enjoyed Episode 1. It was dark, fun, action packed and a little overwhelming, but in a good way. The huge cast might take another episode or two to fully get used to, but I already like the concept and the different dynamics between the four couples. It is definitely something different from the standard BL format, and I am looking forward to seeing how all these stories eventually connect.
We still have 15 episodes to go, so there is a LONG journey ahead. For now, The Crow Club gets a promising 8/10 from me. Bring on the romance, ghosts, fights, dangerous missions and whatever other madness this club has waiting for us!
