After realizing she was a small supporting character in a novel, one who is tragically killed right at the beginning and subjected to constant injustice, Song Zhen Xing begins to break the narrative. When a man she was set up with on a blind date attempts to frame her as a mistress and takes nude photos to socially destroy her, assuming she wouldn't dare speak out because she graduated from a strict "virtuous women's academy," she retaliates by plunging a knife. When her elders attempt to seize control of her company under the guise of "helping," she politely declines, announcing that she will personally manage the company, effective immediately. When her mother forces her into blind dates in the name of "love," she hires Lu Zheng. Lu Zheng is 20 years old, very obedient and compliant, and acts as her shield. Even when he is bruised and battered, he never takes a step back, only looks at her with a pained, teary gaze and reddened eyes. Like the ambiguous tug of war of the leads
Watched this drama last year. Should i said Yuyin acting was getting better than her previous drama? Yes. I still select her drama based from my mood but this one was exception since Zhang Chi's performance always consistent. Both acting and production are excellent, with sophisticated aesthetics. The lead actors, compared to many previous versions, perfectly fit the roles, creating a strong chemistry. Yu Yin presents the character's resilience and vulnerability in layers. At first, it seems like only FL is trapped in the cage but soon, it's ML, cage; and finally, the world itself is a cage, and the process of breaking free is also a process of mutual healing between ML and FL. At the beginning, I completely understood FL and thought ML too obsessive and terrifying; but in the middle, I gradually understood ML. He was born only because of the word "suspected," had that kind of family in the alternate storyline, and was forgotten by everyone in the main storyline. Only FL could prove his existence, understand him, and see him, so he could only cling to it tightly. FL is also equally strong. Her journey from disliking ML to falling in love with him is portrayed very realistically, from initial attraction and hesitation to restraint, giving up, and finally, true love. The ambiguous, tug-of-war between the two characters is absolutely captivating.
The cons about this drama the relationship between the leads was not completely unfolded yet and too short.
Recommended if you like ambiguous tug of war of the leads
Worth your time, great chemistry, interesting new kind of story
I've just completed this drama and I totally loved it.I've seen dramas of FL + ML before but I did not recognise the ML in the teaser. He is such a versatile actor and I am at awe how he can change from "I'm a poor puppy, protect me please" to "I'm a psycho and I might eat your liver just because I can". (he doesn't say that don't worry.)
I am surprised how the story turned out to be about empowering women and changing the game. So refreshing! Writers, please give us more of this kind of stories.
If you're tired of the damsel in destress then this is absolutely for you.
There is a lot of slow burning romance and I mean burning hot romance, the chemestry is absolutely there. The way it is shot there must have been a big enough budget. Clothes, costumes, everything seems high end and elaborated as you can see right in the opening scene.
The main leads are amazing but all the other cast members were great, too.
Some are added for a bit of humour, fun and warmth and I really appreciate the writing of this story - also because of this.
The ending is super nerve-wracking and I am happy they found a good enough ending.
I don't want to spoiler the end so I'm not gonna write much about it. I was hoping for a different kind of ending but in line with the writing it makes absolutely sense. So, cudos to the writers.
Of course, I whole heartedly recommend this drama and I'll probably rewatch it.
