Chat Sai Yan Yuen - Dai Saam Sai - Mai Yin Chi (1976)

In the third lifetime, the story is set during the Tang Dynasty. Through a chance encounter, rouge merchant, Kwok Wah met Wong Yuet Ying, the proprietress of the Wong family's rouge shop. The two fall in love at first sight and arrange to meet that night at the Earth God Temple outside the city. Sadly, she is left waiting in vain when she believes he has broken his promise to her. Leaving behind a pair of embroidered shoes on the altar, she proceeds to flee home in a mix of shame and resentment, subsequently falling ill. Unknowingly to her, Kwok Wah had been delayed at home with hosting guests; by the time he rushed to the temple, she had already left. Realizing he had missed the rendezvous, Kwok Wah also falls gravely ill upon returning home. Ultimately, both succumbed to illness brought on by lovesickness, never realizing their dreams of becoming husband and wife.
