Seo Yea Ji is heading back to theaters with Geumwoldo (literal title), a mystery thriller that takes a uniquely Korean approach to the vampire genre.
On November 4, her agency B.Wave Entertainment announced that the actress has been cast as Kim Ji Hu in the film. The project is helmed by director Baek Dong Hun, who previously directed Le Grand Chef 2: Kimchi Battle.
Rather than borrowing from Western vampire lore, Geumwoldo starts from real accounts of cannibalism recorded in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. The story is set on a remote Korean island and within a closed-off community, which the production describes as a new genre attempt it calls the "Korean-style vampire."
Seo Yea Ji's Kim Ji Hu is a woman who finds herself on the isolated island of Geumwoldo after receiving a message from her mother. As she digs into a string of mysterious incidents there, she uncovers hidden secrets and is forced to stand up to her own fate.

Seo Yea Ji has built her career across both film and television, with notable roles in Save Me, Lawless Lawyer, It's Okay to Not Be Okay and Eve. She recently tried the stage for the first time in the play The Hymn of Death, where her delicate emotional performance won praise from audiences.
Geumwoldo is her first film in about five years, following the 2021 movie Recalled.
The film is set to begin shooting in mid-November, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.
