'Agent Kim Reactivated' concludes, 'Spooky in Love' goes steady

Season 14 of the Chinese variety show Keep Running has been officially announced and scheduled to premiere on April 24. A preview episode is expected to be released on April 17, offering a behind-the-scenes look at filming.
Keep Running is an outdoor game competition reality show broadcast on Zhejiang TV in China. Previously titled Running Man China, it is a spin-off from the hit South Korean variety show Running Man (SBS).
As a long-running variety show that has been with the audiences for more than a decade, this season features comprehensive upgrades in its lineup, gameplay, and settings. It balances continued sentiment and nostalgia with fresh experiences, aiming to break through the developmental bottleneck commonly faced by long-running franchise shows.
In terms of the cast, this season continues the framework of "returning veterans + core members + fresh blood". Li Chen and Zheng Kai, the only veterans who have participated in all 14 seasons, will continue to hold their ground. Meanwhile, Sha Yi, Bai Lu, Fan Cheng Cheng, and Zhang Zhen Yuan have all confirmed their return.
Notably, two new regular cast members have been added this season — Blossom stars Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui. Both previously appeared on the show as "Running companions". Meng Zi Yi, known for her straightforward personality and strong variety show presence, has been recognized as a "meme generator", while Li Yun Rui, with a background as a national second-level athlete, excels in long-distance running and challenges at high altitudes; his standout marathon performance last season helped him secure a promotion to a regular member as the team's physical powerhouse.
Unfortunately, Song Yu Qi will be temporarily absent from filming due to injury recovery, and Zhou Shen will also be absent due to scheduling conflicts with his solo concert tour.
This season retains its classics while boldly introducing innovations. Signature segments such as the name tag-ripping game and mud-pit challenges have been brought back, with improved safety measures to balance competitiveness and entertainment value.
The filming locations are also more diverse. The first round of recording kicked off in Haikou from March 25 to 29, with subsequent shoots planned in Henan and Heilongjiang. The season will wrap up in Singapore in mid-June. Each stop will incorporate flavors unique to local culture into specially designed tourism-themed tasks, integrating variety show entertainment with regional culture.
As a variety show that first premiered in 2014, Keep Running has garnered immense popularity, achieving impressive ratings and generating significant buzz. However, amid intensifying competition in the variety show market and changing audience tastes, the program has also faced challenges, including increasingly rigid character personas and outdated formats, leading to fluctuations in viewership.
With its 14th season, the show is attempting to strike a balance between nostalgia and innovation through a fresh lineup, upgraded gameplay, and expanded settings.
Season 14 of Keep Running will premiere on April 24.
