On October 25, Korean media outlet MyDaily reported that The Second Signal, the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2016 hit drama Signal, will premiere on December 7. The series was initially expected to premiere on November 30, but its schedule was pushed back by a week. According to the report, the drama will air its first and second episodes as a special broadcast on December 7, then release one episode per day starting December 8.
On the same day, a tvN representative told OSEN, "Nothing has been finalized regarding the scheduling of The Second Signal."
A sequel to the 2016 drama Signal, The Second Signal was originally scheduled to air in June for tvN's 20th anniversary. However, its broadcast schedule was put on hold indefinitely after Jo Jin Woong's controversy.
In December last year, the actor was revealed to have a juvenile criminal record from his school days, and disclosures also surfaced about incidents from his adulthood. Jo Jin Woong ultimately acknowledged responsibility and announced his retirement, leaving the future of The Second Signal uncertain.
The production team considered several options for handling Jo Jin Woong's scenes, including using AI and editing. However, the team has decided to keep his scenes as-is, without any edits.
