Kim Hyun Joo is stricken with grief after losing her son in 'Paradise Lost'
WeTV has unveiled a trailer for its soon-to-be-released historical Chinese drama The Road to Splendor.
The Road to Splendor follows Fu Ting Yun (Deng En Xi, aka Ancy Deng), a noblewoman born into an influential family. Though she once enjoyed a privileged life, she is maliciously framed, loses her reputation overnight, is abandoned by her family, and is plunged into a life-or-death crisis. At her lowest point, Zhao Ling (Ding Yu Xi), an underground salt dealer on the outside but, in reality, burdened by a family case from the past, enters her life.
The trailer begins with a voiceover saying, "The Fu family owes me ten thousand taels for salt," following which the first scene shows Zhao Ling holding a knife against Fu Ting Yun's throat.
A woman says, "Their family is in decline. They can only rely on a chastity arch for their political career," and viewers see Fu Ting Yun readying to be a bride.
The scenes then show Fu Ting Yun being forced to drink from a cup and left in despair. At her lowest point, Zhao Ling appears before her. "You no longer have any value for them to exploit," "I do have a way though," and "Dare to step into a bridal sedan?" hint at the pact they have made.
A fallen noblewoman and an underground salt dealer pose as a couple, traveling across the land — a journey that ultimately forges trust between them.
Viewers also get a glimpse of Zhao Ling's ambition — a man like a blade of grass, with no roots. So he strives to grow upward with all his might.
The trailer comes to a close with a voiceover saying, "If there is a path that leads to the top in this world, no matter how perilous it is, I will walk it," with scenes showing Zhao Ling letting nothing stop him.
