Ding Yu Xi and Deng En Xi team up against the odds in 'The Road to Splendor' trailer
Toronto International Film Festival has unveiled a trailer for director Yeon Sang Ho's (Train to Busan, Hellbound, Parasyte: The Grey) upcoming film Paradise Lost, which will get its world premiere at the festival this coming September.
Paradise Lost is a thriller that follows the events that unfold in the life of Ryu So Yeong (Kim Hyun Joo) after Sun Woo, a boy who had gone missing, suddenly returns home nine years later.
The trailer begins with Ryu So Yeong crying in grief while officers try to hold her. The voiceover says, "Do you know how horrible it was for me to lose you?" as the trailer shows glimpses of the case where the "children disappeared without a trace."
A man then asks Ryu So Yeong if she "still uses the VR program often," and viewers see the grief-stricken mother soothing the pain of losing her son by substituting his presence with his AI version. However, her life takes another turn when she receives a message urging her to visit Musan Police Station, where she reunites with her supposed "son".
However, instead of a happy-ever-after, the trailer teases tension as it shows Sun Woo displaying suspicious behavior, which evokes unrest and doubt in Ryu So Yeong.
The screencard reads "Hell or Paradise," hinting at the upheaval the coming of her "son" will bring into Ryu's life.
Paradise Lost will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs September 10–20, before opening in South Korean theaters in October. Watch the trailer here.
