Actor Kim Soo Hyun acknowledges his relationship with the late Kim Sae Ron but denies being in a relationship with her when she was a minor.
On March 10, the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute claimed, citing a conversation with Kim Sae Ron's family, that Kim Soo Hyun had been in a relationship with Kim Sae Ron for six years, starting in 2015 when she was 15 years old.
The following day, they released an intimate photo of Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron, and on March 12, they released a photo showing Kim Sae Ron contacting Kim Soo Hyun via text message after receiving the certified document.
On March 13, Gold Medalist announced, "We would like to clarify the facts and respond to baseless rumors. We will disclose our position next week with clear evidence." However, due to the continued psychological pressure on Kim Soo Hyun, they released an official statement just a day later, stating, "Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron were in a relationship from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, after Kim Sae Ron became an adult." The agency clarified, "The allegation that he dated Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor is not true."
They further claimed that all the photos of the two recently disclosed by the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute were taken after Kim Sae Ron became an adult.
The agency stated, "The so-called 'photo taken in 2016' repeatedly claimed by Garo Sero Institute cannot exist," explaining, "This is because the two were not in a relationship at that time."
They also refuted the allegation that Kim Soo Hyun paid approximately 700 million won on behalf of Kim Sae Ron for the penalty related to her DUI accident and that he later sent a certified document demanding reimbursement after her contract with the agency expired. The agency stated, "Kim Sae Ron's debt issues were entirely a matter between Gold Medalist and Kim Sae Ron," clarifying that "Kim Soo Hyun never lent money to Kim Sae Ron nor did he demand repayment."
They added, "After the DUI accident, Gold Medalist covered the entire remaining debt that Kim Sae Ron could not afford to pay," also stating that, upon determining that Kim Sae Ron was no longer capable of repaying the debt, the agency wrote off the entire claim as a bad debt.
They further explained that the certified document sent to Kim Sae Ron was intended to prove that she was in a "non-recoverable" state at the time and unable to repay her debt. Regarding the text message in which Kim Sae Ron asked Kim Soo Hyun for more time to repay the debt after receiving the certified document, the agency explained, "At that time, Kim Sae Ron had already left the company and lacked sufficient legal knowledge about the debt."
Gold Medalist clarified that after receiving the text message from Kim Soo Hyun at the time, they explained to Kim Sae Ron the purpose of the certified document.
