Netflix animation KPop Demon Hunters has won two Oscars at the 98th Academy Awards.

On March 15 (local time), KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song at the 98th Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Korean Canadian director Maggie Kang expressed, "Thank you to the Academy and to all the fans who got us here. And for those of you who look like me, I'm so sorry that it took us so long to see us in a movie like this. But it is here, and that means that the next generations don't have to go longing. This is for Korea and for Koreans everywhere."

KPop Demon Hunters is an action-fantasy animated film that tells the story of HUNTR/X, a K-pop superstar group whose members, Rumi, Mira, and Joy, lead double lives as heroes protecting the world behind their glamorous performances.

Some of the film's achievements include surpassing 500 million views on Netflix since its premiere in June 2025; HUNTR/X becoming the first K-pop girl group to reach No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100; and "Golden" becoming the first K-pop song in history to win a Grammy Award.

Especially, "Golden" was also honored with the Critics' Choice Award and the Golden Globe Award. The team behind the song includes 24 (real name Seo Jung Hoon), IDO (Lee Yoo Han, Kwak Joong Gyu, and Nam Hee Dong), Teddy, Mark Sonnenblick, and Ejae, a Korean American and the granddaughter of veteran actor Shin Young Kyun.

Moreover, Maggie Kang has become the first female Asian director to win Best Animated Feature Film at the Academy Awards.

KPop Demon Hunters will be returning with a sequel. Stay tuned!
