Byun Yo Han undergoes bold transformation for 'The Journey to Gyeong-ju'
Upcoming K-drama The Ordinary Jackpot has unveiled a poster and teaser, giving a glimpse of Lee Jun Hyuk in his new role.
Based on the popular web novel of the same name, The Ordinary Jackpot follows Gong Eun Tae (Lee Jun Hyuk), a diligent employee. After winning the first prize in the lottery, he goes to work with a different mindset, carrying 1.3 billion won (approx. $918,000) in prize money instead of a resignation letter. Though 1.3 billion won is certainly a substantial amount, it is not quite enough to dramatically transform one's life. The drama humorously and empathetically tells the story of an office worker who, after getting his hands on the prize money, finally begins to see both his work and the people around him in a different light.
The poster shows Gong Eun Tae's employee ID card, identifying him as an ordinary sales team leader, placed alongside a first-prize lottery ticket. Rather than looking thrilled about his win, Gong Eun Tae appears indifferent, as if getting to work is more important than celebrating, capturing the struggles of an office worker who has fought to get through each day. The phrase "To work instead of quitting!" further raises curiosity about why he has chosen to continue his ordinary daily life even after landing the biggest stroke of luck of his life.
The teaser depicts the grueling day of Gong Eun Tae. Although he makes it to work earlier than everyone else after battling his way through the crowded subway, he endures situations in which he is pushed around from both above and below, making his title of "team leader" seem almost meaningless.
After enduring and holding on through all of this, Gong Eun Tae is met one day with the unexpected stroke of luck of winning the first prize in the lottery, worth 1.3 billion won. His sweet daydreams of quitting his job are short-lived, however, as Gong Eun Tae decides to return to work instead of leaving the company. In particular, he is seen with a sparkle in his eyes as he says, "I'm going to turn this company upside down," raising anticipation for how his work life will change after winning the lottery.
Lee Jun Hyuk transforms into Gong Eun Tae, a team leader who has worked tirelessly to maintain an uneventful, ordinary life. Although he was promoted faster than anyone else, Gong is constantly caught in the middle by those above and below him because he is the company's "youngest team leader". However, the unexpected stroke of luck of winning the lottery gradually prompts him to change the way he approaches both life and work.
The Ordinary Jackpot will air 10 episodes, premiering first on TVING on September 10, then on tvN as a Monday-Tuesday drama on September 14. Watch the teaser here.
